Can I wear Crocs in London?

I am off to the big city in a few weeks to watch a show at the theatre. I live in a small town in the Southwest where people are not seemingly bothered about being stylish and a lot of us live in Crocs.

Will I be laughed at? Is there an alternative to Crocs? I cannot imagine anything else would be as comfy.

..I was so horrified I posted too soon!

I would say its what you would wear to a nice restaurant, a wine bar, just less than the races or a wedding.

Amazinggg · 19/06/2013 15:21

You can, of course. If you want to wear them. They are comfy for all the walking involved in a trip to London.

But given that it's S and B... they are pretty much the most hideous footwear IMO, and if you're going to the theatre it's more appropriate to wear smart clothes and footwear.

But there's no right answer. It's not a social faux pas, no-one would pass comment, but the fact that you're posting here suggests that you want to look smart so please wear something better. They really are like wellies.

I lvoe crocs but mine are purple so very rarely worn outside my garden. However! I have just bought some black croc shoes!!

Crocs that don't look like Crocs

PostBellumBugsy · 19/06/2013 15:24

No way - the croc police will arrest you & put you on the first train out of town!! Wink

dexter73 · 19/06/2013 15:41

You could put some crystally jibbitz on to jazz them up a bit as it's a special occasion.

MerylStrop · 19/06/2013 15:50

well those clothes with crocs might look quite, you know, hipstery. by accident. make sure you get some old style nerdy nhs specs and might pull it all together.

but not sure about crocs for dirty london streets and minty theatre floors. gum through the holes. ew

imademarion · 19/06/2013 15:53

Nope.

You can wear anything you like in London.

Other people will judge you FURIOUSLY, though Grin

Nivet · 19/06/2013 15:56

You can but your feet will get filthy, for some reason dirtier than if you were wearing Birkies.

silverangel · 19/06/2013 15:57

No no no no no! What would you wear them with?!

TeaAddict235 · 19/06/2013 15:57

Don't do it. I beg you. Burn those things as soon as possible or donate them while on holiday. Please don't wear crocs!!!

Mrsrobertduvall · 19/06/2013 16:00

What tiime does your train get in and I will hold an anti-croc protest at the end of the platform Grin

jodee · 19/06/2013 16:00

I love Crocs - for camping or gardening. That's it.

Devora · 19/06/2013 16:02

They're so out of fashion people might think you're starting a retro revival? They might be all the thing in Hoxton, unbeknown to MN?

[Stares anxiously at oh-so-comfy Fitflops, suspecting they are now the social death that Crocs were two years ago.]

Blu · 19/06/2013 16:04

Yes, you absolutley can wear Crocs to Charlie and The Chocolate Factory.

You might elicit the odd glance if you were attending a Gala night in the expensive seats at the Royal Opera House, but I promise you (and I work in theatre) that people will be wearing Crocs, Converse, ballet flats, walking shows, trainers, Mary Janes, stillettos, Jimmy Choos, Joules Wellies and Laboutin as they prefer, at CATCF.

LoriGrimes · 19/06/2013 16:31

Thank you for all your advice and suggestions. Sadly I cannot wear anything that shows my toes as my nails are like claws. If I had a pair of normal looking pump type shoes what do you wear under them? Ankle socks?

burberryqueen · 19/06/2013 16:37

lori despite the jokes and opinions here, please do just wear whatever you feel comfortable in..

UB40fan · 19/06/2013 16:37

I will be staying in London in August and will probably be wearing my crocs every time I walk out the door.I don't care what people think of me. I don't know anyone in London and I would like to have the ability to walk around with out being in pain. Anyway I am a 49 year old women. I am mostly invisible!

Bunbaker · 19/06/2013 16:38

There is no dress code for the theatre, and since you would be sitting in the dark no-one is going to notice what you are wearing, but I think Crocs are a no from me.

I am not in the least bit stylish with footwear but to me they are akin to wearing slippers.

PostBellumBugsy · 19/06/2013 16:51

My main reason for not wearing crocs (other than natural hatred for them) is that your feet will get filthy. London is seriously scuzzy, specially if you use the tube & your feet will be minging by the end of it all if you wear crocs.

daftdame · 19/06/2013 17:14

In summer I wear pumps bare footed, especially with dresses.

Blu · 19/06/2013 19:32

these
orthese?
With no socks.

Hopasholic · 19/06/2013 19:46

Personally I wouldn't wear them for the theatre, but each to their own!

For anyone who likes the comfort of them without the 'clomp' these are really comfy for on holiday

I think Crocs should be banned- they are only suitable for beach wear or wandering in garden at home to do some light weeding.
They are the most ugly shoes ever to land on the planet.

So no- to your question. But it's not so much about the theatre, or London, it's about Crocs
