SAHM going for a work shadowing placement - I live in jeans, what do I wear?

I need something that passes as work wear but I'll want to wear in my normal SAHM life too. I'm not buying something for one day that I'll never wear again! I'm up for trying dresses, but will be on my feet a lot so nothing that needs heels. Oh god, shoes. I have no smart shoes that don't have heels. A pair of bright turquoise ballet flats is the closest, so something I can wear those with I guess?

Please save me from heading to Next and buying the plainest black work trousers I can find.

How about some beige/sand/light brown trousers, your turquoise flats and a top in the same colour as the shoes?

Or beige/sand/light brown trousers and a nice shirt? If you use the flats, maybe with a necklace or bracelet in the same colour as the flats?

A shirt like this maybe: www.zara.com/uk/en/woman/tops/v-neck-shirt-c358004p1255512.html
Trousers like these: www.massimodutti.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product/duttigb/en/30220004/678564/1904317/SKINNY%2BTROUSERS

what kind ot work place is it?

bisley · 17/06/2013 12:36

Oh sorry, I meant to put that in my OP, it's an NHS clinic, so not super smart. However, I phoned to ask if I could get away with jeans and they said it needed to be normal work wear.

I was thinking of that kind of colour trousers Vibbe, maybe on the sandier side, and haven't quite got that budget.

You might be able to find them cheaper in H&M or other shops in the high street - I only posted that link as it was the first shop I could think of that would have them :)

Bisley, I think you could wear that dress to work and if it is only for one day and you like it and will wear it again, it is a good investment. If you are tall and / or leggy it will look very short though. Is this purely one day or is there an element of interview / possibly leading somewhere to this? If so, sorry to be a bore, but that dress might look a bit frivolous. Nobody will frown at you for one day, but it might not make the best "Hire me!" impression that you want.

Oops

Thanks curryeater, I know what you mean. It's just the day though, to see if I like the type of work. Possible I may end up applying for a job there eventually, but about 5 years down the line - not sure it will make that lasting an impression! Grin I've bought it anyway, will consider further at home.

Right, off to M&S then...
