If you have dry, pale skin, what is your favourite foundation?

I don't need heavy coverage, and would use a tinted moisturiser except I've never found one pale enough - they're all a bit orange on me. I'm very white with pink undertones. Most foundations cake up and make my skin look worse than it does without foundation. But I do want something to even out my skintone. Any recommendations?

I mix a tiny blob of bb cream with a tiny blob of the lightest foundation I can find ... which is L'Oreal true match C1.

The bb cream stops it looking cakey.

Keztrel · 04/06/2013 10:25

I've never tried a bb cream Mintyy, read so many mixed reviews and got confused so stayed away! Will investigate, thanks :)

I bought the lightest one I could find but, like all the tinted moisturisers, it was too dark for me. But I kind of like the natural coverage of a bb cream, so just adding that little bit of pale foundation makes it work for me. I can only wear tinted moisturiser on holiday when I've got a bit of a tan!

TheBirdsFellDownToDingADong · 04/06/2013 10:31

I am the palest of pale and a foundation whore......(and dry as paper...)

Here's my latest rundown....

Clarins Instant Smooth in 00 (being discontinued apparently Angry is very good, a light mousse that gives a lovely sheen as well as nice coverage that you can build on.
Maybelline Matt mousse is the el cheapo version of the above and tbh, just as good for about £5 when on a 3 x 2 or BOGOF or 2 x £10 set up.
I also have a pot of:
Boots Lift and Luminate in calico- grabbed at duty free. It's OK. I had a £5 voucher. Wouldn't buy again without the voucher though.
Bourjois Health Mix in the lightest they do- MN raves about this as the bollocks of foundation (and apparently Chanel make Bourjois) I find it a bit gloopy and have to mix it with something else because even the lightest is one shade too dark for me.
Dior Fusion- fab colour, but too drying for me...this is what I mix with the Bourjois.

My klaxon foundation though- and the only one I keep buying more of is Maybelline Eraser. The texture just makes you go "ooooooh this is lovely" when you put it on. I don't bother with the faffy sponge ball thing though, just dob it on with my fingers.

Last week I had a posh do, and used a combo of the Dior and the Eraser and was told looked 35. (am 47)

Keztrel · 04/06/2013 10:37

Thanks for that TheBirds, loads to try there! I love Clarins... Can't see a foundation called Instant Smooth on their website so I guess they are discontinuing :( The Instant light complexion perfector looks tempting if it gave some coverage - rose shimmer sounds a nice pink shade (why is it so hard to find non yellow foundations??)

Will def check out Maybelline Eraser.

Have you considered mineral foundation?

I'm a complete foundation junkie (£100 down the drain over the past month alone trying to find my holy grail and thinking that each one was good until a couple of days later)Hmm

A few years back I bought Lily Lolo and loved it but one time when I had run out they didn't have my shade in stock so I went elsewhere.

Just last week I thought I'd give them another whirl and OMG I am so glad I have - doesn't accentuate dry skin, can give yourself the lightest of lightest coverage or full on slap, lasts pretty much all day and doesn't look crap after a few hours, stands up to warm weather well rather than sliding off your face, doesn't cake and colour range is really good for pale skin.

God I've waffled, but I'm so glad I've started using it again as I was just about to pay a visit to Space NK and fritter away a load more cash on foundation that probably would have been a bottle of shite Wink

TheBirdsFellDownToDingADong · 04/06/2013 10:48

Now you see I bought a mineral foundation after reading about them on here and looked like an orange Barbara Cartland!

I thought it was because it was powder and therefore accentuated my wrinkles but maybe I need to give it another go....

TheBirdsFellDownToDingADong · 04/06/2013 10:49

Ah, checked the Clarins link and the foundation has gone....Sad The Instant Smooth primer is the best I've ever tried though, and they are still doing that I see.

ThreeDudesOnABus · 04/06/2013 10:53

Shiseido is for us alabaster lasses.

Keztrel · 04/06/2013 10:56

Lozi I've tried Lily Lolo and Bare Minerals and didn't get along with either - too powdery and orange :(

Never tried Shiseido ThreeDudes, thanks.

Your skin sounds like mine. I ahve three recomemndations, all of which I have bought and been delighted with, over the last few months. They're all very lightweight, go on like a dream too:

Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser (I have the palest shade, and it is absolutely fab) - about £32
YSL Touche Eclat foundation - about £29
Chanel Aqua Lumiere foundation - About £35 I think.

HappyAsEyeAm · 04/06/2013 11:48

Sorry for the typos.

Keztrel · 04/06/2013 11:53

Happy I've tried the Laura Mercier and the Chanel and found both too dark for me - that was a good few years ago though so maybe they've come out with some lighter shades? I did love the texture of both.

Heard good things about Touch Eclat foundation so will have a look :)

I am currently wearing max factor face finity.

I cannot wear foundations with yellow in them.

I went through a pale and interesting phase and discovered a budget brand foundation called Laval, it is widely known as being on a pad with expensive brands and the shades are suitable for the palest of skins.

Laval secret beauty foundation

www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dbeauty&field-keywords=Laval+secret+beauty

It is non drying, doesn't clog pores and comes in a very big tube making it even more cost effective. I bought mine from ebay. I applied with a foundation brush. As good as Chanel Luminiere, I kid you not.

TheBirdsFellDownToDingADong · 04/06/2013 12:14

Oh I like the sound of that!

Keztrel · 04/06/2013 12:15

Haha Sunday I've just seen Laval do a shade called 'Scary Zombie Halloween White' - that might be the one for me Grin

Revlon Colorstay Dry/Normal in Ivory.
Most pale shades seem yellow-based (Chanels for example), this is pink-based.

I also mix a bit of Colorstay with Anthelios sunscreen and that's my favorite tinted daily sunscreen. A lot of people who use BB creams turn a bit orange, so be careful. Warm-toned creams on cool skin look a bit dirty - not a flattering look.

Mineral makeup does not work on me. It dries and irritates my skin and makes it itchy.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in the lightest shade looks pretty awful on me (if someone wants a full bottle, tried twice, I can pass it on).

Keztrel · 04/06/2013 13:06

Thanks Frugal, totally agree re warm shades on cool skin, looks awful on me. Will check out the pink based Revlon.

I have the same problem so will be reading through all the replies. I am very very white and a bit ruddy without make up so need it. I think the best I've ever bought was Maybeline Dream Matt Mouse in porecelein, but it still wasn't perfect.

Has anyone ever tried Dainty Doll?

apachepony · 04/06/2013 15:42

I'm pretty pale with dryish and am currently wearing a bobbi brown foundation, before that wore the YSL touche eclat - think I prefer the bobbi brown.

TheBirdsFellDownToDingADong · 04/06/2013 16:45

Just checked, my dream matte mousse is light porcelain.

Sleepwhenidie · 04/06/2013 16:49

Another vote for Chanel aqua lumiere, it is gorgeous and does not feel like foundation at all, the first one I have found that I am happy to wear every day without feeling made up iykwim...and I am 40!

SundaySimmons · 04/06/2013 19:04

Sleepwhenidie, I once did half my face with Chanel aqua lumiere and half with the Laval one. Neither my daughter or I could tell the difference. I went to work and when I came home the Laval looked exactly the same but the Chanel needed touching up. I was amazed to say the least.

Keztrel · 04/06/2013 19:05

I do like think the Chanel is great (I tried a sample) but the lightest shade is just too beige. Will def try Laval!

Please ignore the 'like' in that sentence!
