Is this dress too mumsy? Be kind

I just ordered this dress in the navy on a whim when I was getting some kids stuff.

I just tried it on and it's so flattering. It makes me look very slim and makes my arms and legs look very slender. The colour suits me and the fabric is not too flimsy and I have a waist!

I have a bit of an aversion to boden women's clothes (although I like a lot of the kids stuff) and am worried its too mumsy and I am having a bad taste moment.

I would wear it with flat sandals to run around with the kids this summer.

linky?

Lambzig · 03/06/2013 10:34

Aargh sorry, what an idiot. Distracted by six months old.

Slightly disappointed at the lack of psychic ability of mumsnetters.

It's a perfectly normal dress. Not particularly remarkable in any way.

If it makes you look good and the colour suits you then what do you think is wrong with it?

Catbert4pm · 03/06/2013 10:38

Hi, I think the dress is lovely, but will need the right accessories to ensure it doesn't end up looking mumsy.

SirChenjin · 03/06/2013 10:39

Oooh, I like that (caveat - I am in my mid forties and quite boring conservative). As Trills says, it's a normal looking dress

ImTooHecsyForYourParty · 03/06/2013 10:41

I have no idea what 'mumsy' looks like.

The dress you linked is perfectly fine, assuming you've got the arms for it
( I don't )

kohl · 03/06/2013 10:41

The dress looks fine on the mannequin, good on the model, and if it makes you look and feel good then it's a winner. I wouldn't think mumsy (or boden actually) but a nice, flattering, casual dress for the summer.

And I do like a dress with a pocket.

velvetysquirrel · 03/06/2013 10:42

It's nice, although I think I prefer the other colours.

BunnyLebowski · 03/06/2013 10:44

It's not my kinda dress and is a wee bit mummy uniform but then I'm a great big Boden hater Grin

If you like it and feel good in it then it's a no-brainer! Wear and enjoy Smile

ItsYonliMe · 03/06/2013 10:48

It looks too grown up/sensible/boring for me (I'm 48) so perhaps that does mean "mumsie". I don't like the elasticated waistband at all.

Lambzig · 03/06/2013 10:48

I suppose Mumsy to me is when you cut your hair short or in a nice bob and choose all your clothes based on being comfortable, practical and wash easily just because you have kids.

I have friends who have done this, nothing wrong with that if you want, but I don't want to.

You are right, I am probably over thinking it. If it was from anywhere else, I probably wouldn't think about it.

I am mid forties too, so I like things to be knee length.

Bunny that's just what I mean.

happyreindeer · 03/06/2013 10:56

I think it is nice and would not think mumsy.

Bexicles · 03/06/2013 11:02

I really like it in the peachy/lilac colours and no not mumsy.

Purplehonesty · 03/06/2013 11:03

Fine in the blue, mumsy in the others colours cos the bands really show up

EuroShaggleton · 03/06/2013 11:04

I like it and don't think it's mumsy at all. I'd wear it (am 37 and not a mum).

SoTiredAgain · 03/06/2013 14:13

If it looks good on you and makes you feel good, then buy it. These things are rare (in my world) so go for it.

Corygal · 03/06/2013 15:53

It's a great dress and easy to tart up. Go for it - lovely.

higgle · 03/06/2013 16:09

Nice dress, I was going to order one but I've spent all summer clothes money on other stuff. Not mumsy, unless worn by supremely mumsy person.

blueshoes · 03/06/2013 16:13

If the colour suits and it makes you slim it is worth its weight in gold especially since it is comfortable and practical, which wins big points in my book as you are looking after a baby.

You will look cool in sandals with just a little grooming.

Keztrel · 03/06/2013 16:21

I like it, and I hate most Boden stuff. Get it! Slimming AND comfy = win.

JazzDalek · 03/06/2013 16:36

You've said it is flattering and slimming and you feel good in it. You need no other validation! Keep and enjoy!

I dithered over this one a few months ago. Wish I'd got it now. I'm not a dress-wearer, but would kind of like to be.

JudithOfThePiece · 03/06/2013 18:05

I ordered that dress a couple of months ago because I thought the style was lovely. Unfortunately, on me, it did not look good.

However, I did like the weight of the fabric and the general quality. I would have styled it with leather flat sandals (am not a fan of gladiator style, so probably toe-post) and some chunky bangles or a leather wrist wrap. I don't consider that to be mumsy!!

If it looks flattering on you, then I'm jealous!!

BeaLola · 03/06/2013 18:14

I like it & wish I was slender enough to wear it

Mumsy is a state of mind (said by a Mumsy person !)
