Colours, Season, Pallet Advice?

I was just reading a thread her today, and I have looked at the HOC website and kettlewell BUT I just don´t have the money at the moment to get my colours done and the logistics of it are very difficult (don´t want to out myself) Would anyone like to have a guess?

Skin = pale, (very pale have a nightmare trying to get foundation), burns does not tan at all, I am covered head to to in freckles

Eye´s = Techically hazel, but much more green than brown, and have a amber band around the iris

Hair = brutnet with a tun of orange red undertones (naturally) but normally died to a deep plumy / purply redish colour

I look like death warmed up in anything grey.

I am more than happy to answer any qyestions and yes I know the techincally no one can do my colours over the internet, but I just want to know what people thought might be likely! I´m miserable at the moment and in serious need of cheering up

You sound a bit autumnal to me - how do soft olive browns, sage greens, duck egg blue look on you? Hold a white cloth next to your face. Now try an ivory, or cream, or buttermilk (I know, like you have all these swatches handy....)

Which one brings out your eyes, makes you look alive?

inneedofrain · 31/05/2013 16:10

Ok actually I do have those colours (Sad horder of fabric smilie needed)

None of them really bring out my eyes, but

White looks worst it makes me look even paler
then ivory
cream and buttermilk looks best.

Does that help?

Hi, I've just tested this online quiz and it got my colours right. Maybe if enough of us who know our colours do the test we can decide if it is reliable for someone who doesn't know!!!

shopafrolic · 31/05/2013 18:05

The test worked for me too.....

AngryFeet · 31/05/2013 18:09

I got light cool soft on that quiz - can't see where it says what colours will suit me though Confused

inneedofrain · 31/05/2013 19:14

Ok according to tha test I am a warm autum!

What does that mean??????

OP posts:
inneedofrain · 31/05/2013 19:17

Ok just done it again and I come out as a clear winter

So which am I ?

OP posts:
Casmama · 31/05/2013 19:30

If white looks bad and cream looks good then you are likely to be a warm season- spring or autumn. My guess would be autum.

inneedofrain · 31/05/2013 20:10

Ok so say I am an autumn, what does that mean?

What are the rules?

OP posts:
Hopefully · 31/05/2013 21:20

I come out as a winter every time I do an online test. I am most definitely not the only way to be sure is a proper analysis. If you don't want to spend the money, you're as well off picking a palette you like and going with it - all your clothes coming from a single palette will help you look more 'together' even if they're not right for you. Pinterest has lots of example palettes.

inneedofrain · 31/05/2013 21:39

Hopefully I am sure you are right

But I can't get my colours done at the moment

I have had the most awful month or so I am miserable and the thought of a wardrobe make over in my head was to cheer me up a bit, and I might even by a couple of new things when I get to the shops sometime in the next 6months

What were your favourite items of clothing ever?

Usually something in your season.

ADefiniteMaybe · 31/05/2013 21:47

Hopefully - the OP didn't say say she didn't want to have her colours done, she said she couldn't afford to have them done.Quite different.

inneedofrain · 31/05/2013 22:26

Lowercase

I have an electric blue long line jacket
A aubergne wofty 3 piece suit all matching
My cream full length coat
My navy suits
My red Chinese style top

I look good in purples and that particular colour always makes me feel "happy" I don't own much brown or greens I have a small amount of black

Thank you every one for your posts

It sounds like you might be an autumn - go to the Kettlewell website and look at their colour palettes. I'm guessing that if you find yourself "drawn" to their autumn colours then that's what you are.
I found that even eliminating some of the "wrong" colours from my wardrobe made me feel better without spending any money. Funnily enough getting rid of white makes a huge difference for me. Even without spending money I felt better just by not wearing it next to my face.

MelanieCheeks · 31/05/2013 22:43

Finding the colors that work for you is a long and ongoing process. But I'd say try on more from the autumn palette:

Instead of black, go for a warm earthy brown.
Instead of white, go for cream or soft caramel.
Look to rust, leaf green, and aubergine for your next layer/ accent of colours
Choose a good quality scarf that has all those colours and can work with a number of outfits.

inneedofrain · 31/05/2013 22:54

Ok I love some of the kettlewell autumn colours and some of the combinations are surprising look very well put together but not all tone on tone

Dumb question why is everyone wearing 3 colours?

Odly I think I own one white t shirt and that's it!

I'm not a big mudy colour fan ie love teal or mallard on kettle well but I don't really like muddier greens could I keep the colours I am not so found of to a smaller accent?

OP posts:
MelanieCheeks · 31/05/2013 23:03

There's no rules! if you don't what to wear a certain colour then don't! And you don't have to wear 3 colours - just that 2 colours can look very monochromey

lowercase · 31/05/2013 23:14

Is the Chinese top an orangey red or bluey red?

You sound autumn to me...
Cream & purple both fit autumn.

Gold tone jewellery rather than silver?

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 31/05/2013 23:20

That link put me as a light summer. Hoc class me as a sweet pea summer, so I'd say that was pretty close.
Re. colours you don't like: I've always had a sense that yellow wasn't right for me; it's in the HoC swatch, but,as you say, only really to be used as an accent. Another summer could well have yellow as one of her best colours.

Everyone gets the same seasonal swatch book, but no two people will have the same 'best' colours.

So you could well be an autumn, as you suspect, and wearing the colours you like from that palette might give you the lift you need.

inneedofrain · 31/05/2013 23:28

It's red red (not help full) bright red note cool at all

Actually thinking about it I have a lot of purplely things or things with purple in and the same with cream

I also love the mink colour on kw

Would happily live in various combinations of mink chocolate purple cream with maybe the odd bit of green or rust

I think I could do green or rust if I put it as an accent colour like as a best under a wrap style top where as I would be scared to do it as a main colour iyswim?

I hate gold watches only ever wear silver tone watches

But with three exception one of which is a green pendant and a teal ring all my earrings, necklaces and rings are gold and preferably rose hold tone not yellow

OP posts:
inneedofrain · 31/05/2013 23:38

Shotgun I think I see what you mean

All these colours will work but someone will look great in one that someone else would need to keep more as a accent

I suppose as well if all the colours work together then you can have a bit more fun with combinations

Mostly at the moment everything else aside I feel like I have lost "me" I've lost a tonne of weight which I should feel proud of but it seems to make getting dressed much harder, I don't quite feel like myself iyswim

Thank you again everyone

OP posts:
lowercase · 31/05/2013 23:43

The red an autumn wears is geranium.
The navy has a petrol tinge.

I love this palette.
Kingfisher, brick, teal, and love those greens and golds.

Autumn can do charcoal too.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 31/05/2013 23:44

Now I'm thinking you could be a summer. You know that summer and winter's best metal is silver?

Mink, chocolate, purple, cream are all in the summer palette, and there are three greens. Difference is, they're all the cool versions, whereas autumn and spring are obviously the warm versions.

Likewise, there are pinks, blues, reds and yellows in every palette, so it's not just a matter of identifying colours as such.

Sorry to complicate the whole thing for you.
