Women of Scotland, wearing a dress today? What do you have on your legs?

It's hardly ever warm enough for a summer dress, and I haven't had a sun tan since I was a child. Bare legs is not really, truly an option.

So wtf do I do? Until last week, coloured tights were fine, and suddenly they aren't. I'm stuck. Help.

I'm wearing leggings but I gave birth 9 weeks ago and my legs still resemble cottage cheese.

Pfaffer · 31/05/2013 10:33

Congratulations, nice time to have a wee one.

I've got random bruises and am a sort of porridgy colour, with added blue. I've now been porridgy coloured on my bottom half for about three decades. A couple of afternoons of sun just isn't going to make the difference and fake tan wasn't made for my colouring.

I don't want to be in leggings but American Tan tights just cannot be allowed, can they?

No tights in May applies! I use Sally hansen leg make up, I squoosh it in my hand and mix it with a bit of body lotion, takes two mins and lasts all day. I am tough Irish living in Glasgow.

Pfaffer · 31/05/2013 10:38

No tights in May? Nobody told me! I live in tights (under trousers in winter).
I wish Scotland could be transplanted somewhere further south.

I'm with you OP, bare legs just isn't happening. I quite like nude micronets in nice weather.

cocobongo · 31/05/2013 10:39

Well, I am wearing black opaques, as I do for all of about 2 days a year!

Anyway, it's started to cloud over in Glasgow. Ne'er cast a clout, etc.

DH works in London, came back last night, couldn't believe how warm Scotland was compared with down South. Come on girls get the legs out!

Pfaffer · 31/05/2013 10:47

My legs seriously don't want to be out.
Dear god I've just looked out the window and there is a shirtless man* hanging up the washing. We're basking in the heat today, i tell ya.

*not a hottie

Tights aff, tan oan!

MelanieCheeks · 31/05/2013 10:50

It's raining here in Belfast. And whilst 've started applying the tanning moisturiser this week, I'm not sure I'm ready to go bare-legged just yet.

Where can we buy these nude micronets?

StatisticallyChallenged · 31/05/2013 10:52

boots for example

Pfaffer · 31/05/2013 11:06

Another look out the window, and a woman in trousers and a black 3/4 length winter anorak is also hingin' oot the washing. SO a mixed reaction to the sunshine.

Do those micronet tights go with linen printed summer frocks?

I always like to check the weather forecast before deciding... www.taps-aff.co.uk

But have just checked my legs - they're sort of like hairy, speckled porridge (mmm, foxy) so I think I might fake tan and then wear jeans anyway.

bolshieoldcow · 31/05/2013 11:16

But I'm loving the micronets!

trixymalixy · 31/05/2013 11:18

^leggings^

Geordieminx · 31/05/2013 11:18

Dove holiday skin.

You know it makes sense!

LtGreggs · 31/05/2013 11:19

I'm in Scotland, wearing a dress (no sleeves!!). And wearing tights. Natural tan M&S 10 denier. Not glossy, despite what folk say on here (glossy? look like you're going to a disco?!). Screw the bare legs idea. Ridiculous.

trixymalixy · 31/05/2013 11:19

But it has now totally clouded over. Last year I wore opaques to work all through the summer as it was so dismal. I had my legs out twice.

trixymalixy · 31/05/2013 11:20

geordie get back to work! Grin

christmasmum · 31/05/2013 11:22

Embrace your Northern European life, why must we be fakely brown? Sod it, go au natural. Nothing wrong with porridge.

ClaraDeLaNoche · 31/05/2013 12:27

As far as I'm concerned if you wear a dress May - September it has to be bare legs unless you are meeting the Queen. If you're not going to do this then wear your trousers. Leg up.

StatisticallyChallenged · 31/05/2013 12:29

No chance! I suit dresses -look terrible in trousers - and wear them all year round. However my legs are verging on blue, fake tan looks and smells fake on me as nothing goes remotely with my skin tone. I don't think any of the women in my office go bare legged either.

florascotia · 31/05/2013 17:30

I was in Fort William yesterday, if it's relevant:
a) various local lassies were basking in sunshine with pale Scottish skin v. much on display. They were not worried by this is the slightest. How they looked depended on their figure and chosen clothing, rather than on the amount of skin on display.
b) other local lassies (and me - have had ishoos with pre-skin-cancer on own pale Sottish skin) were in usual opaque jeans/trousers
c) stylish local youngsters were in light and pretty low-necked, short-sleeved or sleeveless dresses with black footless tights. On the right person these = slightly Jane Austen-looking and v. attractive.
d) a few local young persons had also hit the fake tan bottle or machine. To my mind not a good look - did not go with their natural colouring - but they seemed very happy with the effect and I am NOT NOT NOT judging them.
e) hill-walking tourists. Some suit the sensible-shoes-and-trousers-plus- feminine-top style very well indeed. Other look rather like my old gym mistress....

LizzyDay · 31/05/2013 18:43

Unless someone can invent a better alternative to leggings, then leggings it is.

Fake tan can feck off (it DOES smell and it IS orange if you are of a blue skin tone to start with).

Thin tights can feck off too, with their sweaty, laddering ways.
