Just a witter really! I had my colours done a few months ago and have really found it has made a difference to my approach to shopping and clothes in general. The proof of the pudding came last week when 3 of us (me, dh and dd) went away for 6 nights with just 2 locker sized cases. Because my wardrobe "works" so much better now I was able to travel with so much less and still look coordinated and together. Really, really pleased. (And, no, I am not a colour consultant - just a happy p/t teacher who has really learned to dress better.)

Just reading the John Lewis Info, did it really only last an hour? I can't imagine how it's possible to do a colour analysis and body shape analysis and explain it all in that length of time? The house of colour analysis is hours long (can be a full day if you do it in a small group) and the colour and style days are done separately there is so much to take in. They do cost about 100 each mind you but the consultant spends ages teaching you how to apply all the theory, particularly with the style day.

ADefiniteMaybe · 27/05/2013 20:54

Yes, I think it was an hour - maybe a little longer. I could have had a personal shopper tour of the womenswear department afterwards to "see" my new colours and try on my new styles (free of charge) but I had to leave to be somewhere else. Didn't feel I was being rushed - it seemed like the right length and I did email my lady a few days later with a couple of questions which she was happy to answer.

Interesting.
I haven't had it done but presume I'm Autumn too, never wear black, have browny/hazel eyes, brunette hair, pale olive skin that tans easily.
Love the sound of bitter chocolate colour, but struggle to find it in shops at moment.
A few years ago there were loads of browns ,Trinny and Susannah recommended them,it was that era.

MadBusLady · 27/05/2013 21:14

I'm starting to think I'm in some sort of border zone between autumn and winter. Black and bitter chocolate both work on me, as do lots of beiges and jewel colours but other elements of each palette (eg rust/brick from autumn and very pale blues/pinks from winter) don't at all. This thread has motivated me to go and get it sorted.

Georgina I am really hoping browns are on their way back in now. We've been away from them for 5/6 years, it must be time. Every neutral in the shops that isn't black or white seems to be navy at the moment, which is hopeless on me.

GeorginaWorsley · 27/05/2013 21:17

Agree Mad
I like navy though and have lots!

lougle · 27/05/2013 21:20

Oh, Nehru...can you give details for the Winchester woman? I keep debating having my colours done but I'm scared to commit in case I get someone who doesn't know what they're doing.

If you are thinking of having your colours done then I would recommend doing it as soon as you can. It makes such a difference to how you look, how easy it is to put outfits together and how much easier it is to shop. Unlike Travel (wondered when you would put in an appearance Grin) I'm not a consultant but just someone who has benefitted from having colours done years ago.

Lioninthesun · 27/05/2013 21:54

Oooh this is tempting!
I need someone to come over and help me bin half of my wardrobe too though - an extra hour charge perhaps? Wink

ADefiniteMaybe · 27/05/2013 21:59

Oh blimey. I was just saying how pleased I was with my John Lewis session. That's all. Didn't mean to tread on toes. Sorry Travel

Excellent!
One question though, which may sound silly...
Does it not depend on the season what colours you are? When I have a tan I am very olive skinned as I tan easily, but in winter I am very pale (people think I am anemic at times!). So, your skin colour would make different clothes look better/worse?

I had mine done years ago when living in Bangkok. 1990 to be precise! I'm very old. Am a winter. DH was terrified I would want to replace my entire wardrobe but I actually had a lot of the colours anyway. I used it for a while but then stopped. Put on lots of weight so just went for what fitted!

I have lost some weight so shopping is now easier although still have a long way to go. Was thinking of booking a personal shopping session at JL when I lose more. Maybe when I get down to a 16. Currently an 18-20. I would love to have a more put together wardrobe. And my wardrobe could do with some serious fe littering too!

SunshinePanda · 28/05/2013 06:55

Lioninthesun your skin tone stays the same I suppose it is just a different shade in the summer, Your colouring will still be warm or cool, and clear or muted.

Travel has been our resident expert on our Calling all Summers thread.Smile I found it really useful to have advice on areas where over the years I had strayed a little. Thanks And yes to whoever said that you do check ( and judge a little, in true MN style, Wink ) whether people are wearing colours that suit them! Although you tend to notice more when people get it right.

Mumelie · 28/05/2013 08:05

Wow - I could have written this post myself! Smile I had mine done a month ago and now feel so coordinated . Most of my wardrobe was in the correct colours already (I'm a Spring) - about 20% was wrong - weirdly the stuff I didn't wear anyway. I would highly recommend it. cost me £99 with House of Colour.

BeginnerSAHM · 28/05/2013 08:52

Oooh - very interesting thread!! I have a fascination with 'colours' and have had mine 'done' twice with colour me beautiful (diff consultants - once aged 22 with a lovely middle aged lady in London and once aged 35 with a trendier younger person in London too...) and once with HoC. Colour me beautiful had me as a 'clear spring' first time and 'clear and warm' second time - same thing but they changed their categories a bit. However HoC put me as a winter. This was years ago (about 10!) but I think the CMB 'palette' suited me much better.

Anyway, I think I look better wearing the 'right' colours. I would highly recommend it but, personally, think HoC got me wrong...!

CiderwithBuda · 28/05/2013 09:04

Fe littering??? No idea what that is. I meant decluttering!

I am thinking of having my colours done. I think I am an autumn but not in my head. I like the winter look. Crisp, clean black and white.

nkf · 28/05/2013 15:07

John Lewis or house of colour?
