Straw poll - will you be wearing leggings under dresses this summer?

I hope this is still acceptable!

Dresses are so, so short everywhere!

Leggings mean I don't have to fake tan Blush and keep me warm!

Will you be wearing leggings this summer?

Also, H&M do these cheap but fab long vests in a multitude of colours, they are long enough to EASILY cover your bum and I always wear one of them under a top if I'm just wearing leggings so that my bum is fully covered and I still feel comfortable and look nice. And they're £3.99. Winner: H&M Vests

Always. The longer ones not the ones that ride up from your calf to the knee. I have got a little patch of eczema under my knee so prefer to keep it under wraps. My legs are actually a nice shape and size, but for one thing, it's never ever warm enough for me to want to get my legs out, and for another thing, goose bumps are about as attractive as my sexy eczema!
My dresses aren't summery though, more a one season suits all. Summer dresses have no place in a true british wardrobe! Grin
However, when i'm on sunny holidays I do go bare legged as long as no one can see me!

Yes (and as anyone who knows me will tell you, I couldn't give a tuppenny damn whether it accords with "fashion"). Today I'm actually wearing them under a maxi skirt cos it's so cold. Plus I have lots of bad thread veins (not treatable on the NHS because not harmful, in response to the poster upthread Hmm) which I do not intend to show off.

(Meant to put that it makes a good substitute for summer dresses as I'm not much of a dress person anyway)

I always wear black ankle length leggings and usually ballet shoes.
But then I wear dark or bright colours. I can't wear pale colours.

birdies, but where can I get leggings that don't do the Nora Batty thing round my skinny ankles? Expensive or cheap, they all do it!

Ubermumsy maybe try the leggings that have the loop that goes under the sole of your foot? If you get me? Not sure if that would help?

Gwynnie shows how to do this look (note, it's from 2008). Some think it's dated, others that it's a classic look. If it suits your frame - you are an apple shape for example - and you love it, go for it, but personally I think it can be a tricky look to pull off - unless you are Alexa Chung caliber.

Oh yes. I live in leggings. Don't give a shit if other people don't like it.

I dislike cropped leggings though, all of my (many) leggings are long ankle length ones.

I find that tights fall down but leggings don't which is why I prefer leggings.

Ragwort · 24/05/2013 21:06

No.

Have never, ever worn leggings and never will Grin.

Trouble is with leggings is they are always worn by women trying to cover something up - quite often larger women. However the effect is exactly the opposite. It actually draws attraction to whatever it is that you are trying to cover. There are plenty of other ways to achieve this distraction that actually work; leggings are just fashion crime, if they are worn in this way.

Truth be told leggings only really work on those women who have nothing to cover up in the first place.

Moosemama,

It's not anyone else's business what we wea and there are no 'rules'
Some like leggings, some don't.

Most people think i am fairly slim but i can't reveal my grim legs above the knee, and I have to find ways to conceal my disproportionately large arse which contrast rather unfortunately with my flat chest - summer tops are a nightmare. We nearly all have shit we worry about.

You shouldn't take random musing on the Internet about what people prefer too seriously. it's all guff. Smile

Yep from me! But then I seem to break lots of the style rules that are bandied about on here! Grin

Leggings are everywhere this summer. But I do agree that the too-thin-leggings-short-top-can-see-your-spotty-pants look is a no-no.

BranchingOut · 24/05/2013 21:16

The other issue is that I find black leggings very un-summery and there are not too many alternative shades around.

There are in Uniqlo Branchingout. You can order on line if you're not near one.

I shall be wearing whatever I like this summer.

This is why I normally avoid S&B; must be a slo day if this is a discussion of the day Hmm

Oh, also all my leggings are black and have worn then under an all white dress.

No.
On cooler days I might wear second skin tights, or similar. My teenage daughter wears skirts or dresses with leggings, and teamed with ballet flats, very frequently, however.

Report
Takver · 24/05/2013 21:29

No, because I find them too hot & sweaty in summer. I often wear dresses or skirts over combats though, which is no doubt even worse in the fashion stakes Grin
