I am a bit stuck and am looking for any ideas for a good moisturiser for very dry skin. I am not using anything specific at the moment. My skin is a total PITA. Thanks for any help with this :)

La Roche Posay Cicaplast

The Aloe day and night cream from The Body Shop

tinypumpkin · 19/05/2013 11:19

Thank you Valium, I will check those out. Much appreciated :)

I use both of them and my skin has gone from red, blotchy and flaky to pretty good :)

valiumredhead · 19/05/2013 17:53

TBS are having a 40% off and free delivery today only - you will pick up the Aloe creams for less than a fiver!

I don't rate the Aloe face wash btw and the toner is just a little too strong for me but the day, night and cleanser are all fab.

Lush...dream cream.

whosiwhatsit · 19/05/2013 17:59

Ducray Ictyane cream, or Avene Extremely Rich Compensating Cream.

Branleuse · 19/05/2013 18:05

aldi lacura restorative night cream for mature skin.
its really thick and rich

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 19/05/2013 18:10

LRP Cicaplast and Hydreane Riche

MrsBertMacklin · 19/05/2013 18:12

If you like the smell of vanilla, Waitrose Baby Bottom Butter is a very nice night cream.

Cicaplast was what finally sorted out my skin earlier this year, which gave up the fight against the extended winter and turned into a pile of flakes.

whosiwhatsit · 19/05/2013 19:14

Branleuse I just googled that Lacura cream and see it gets excellent reviews. People are comparing it to Lancôme stuff and saying its very moisturising but it only costs £1.99. I will be making a special trip to Aldi and if it really is that good ill save a fortune - thanks for the tip!

makemineapinot · 19/05/2013 19:16

Aveeno, it's fab even for eczema.

Crumblemum · 19/05/2013 19:17

Aveeno has been great for my son's excema - we've even got on prescription.

Jemster · 19/05/2013 19:19

I have the Aveeno body lotion but have never seen a facial moisturiser - do they do one?

MistyB · 19/05/2013 19:21

I have seen a real change in my skin since I have changed my diet, I am convinced that the coconut oil I have introduced has made a difference, I add cold coconut oil, a drizzle of borage oil and walnut oil to cooked rice among other dishes. Though it could equally be excluding grains and dairy and increasing proteins.

Lottapianos · 19/05/2013 19:24

Good old cheapo Astral, the best moisturiser I have ever used by a country mile

OryxCrake · 19/05/2013 19:24

I have very dry skin and I've recently discovered coconut oil - I use the organic Coconoil one, which is a fantastic body moisturiser. You can use it on your hair, too (I leave it on for an hour, then wash it out). Apparently people use it as a facial moisturiser too, but I generally use Nivea soft, which works really well for me.

Caladria · 19/05/2013 19:26

Um, this is probably me being overcautious, but if your skin is that dry it could be worth getting your thyroid checked.

Absolute best I have used is kiehls crime d'elegance repairateur. No oil residue and just does wonders for your skin. It's £30 for 50ml but you only use a small amount at a time.

YoniOno · 19/05/2013 19:59

Another recommendation for LRP Cicaplast. MissBeehiving how do you use the creams, I mean do you use one in the day and one at night or what? That and the Hydreane one I mean. I'm in love with Cicaplast but am curious...

Twinklestarstwinklestars · 19/05/2013 20:00

Aveeno do do a facial cream, haven't seen them in shops but online.

Khaleese · 19/05/2013 20:03

Another vote for aldi night cream, it's in a red box. It's amazing.

tinypumpkin · 19/05/2013 20:25

Thanks ladies, lots of options now!

I do use coconut oil on my face after someone here mentioning it on another thread. It has helped but I need a moisturiser as well bizarrely.

I have not used astral in many many years but maybe I should have a rethink.

Definitely going to check out Aldi although they are not that close to us. May have to pop out and see if I can locate one. All worth a shot!

Caladria, thanks for the heads up. You are spot on btw. I am underactive and going for another blood test tomorrow to see if they have sorted out my meds again. It went awry and caused lots of probs including low mood etc. Bloomin thyroid!

Yoni - I use Cicaplast on any bits that look dryish or stressed both morning and night and then Hydreane over that. It does the trick when other stuff hasn't.

Mockingcurl · 19/05/2013 20:30

I second the Lacura from Aldi. I have very dry mature skin and this range has sorted it out.
