Sandal to wear with summer dresses suitable for lots of walking?

TessTheTeacher · 02/05/2013 07:43

I am going on holiday and it is a city holiday, not a by-the-pool type of holiday. I have some lovely new summery dresses and would like a nice pair of sandals to go with them.

So far everything I have seen that fits the bill have been way to granny-esque. I want a open toe rather than a toe-post and they need to have a strap of some sort, I don't want a slip on because all they do is slip off! I'd need them to have a half decent sole, not just the basic flat, hard sole that lots of sandals have because I won't be able to do a full day of walking in those basic soles. I think either metallic or brown tan would go with my dresses best.

And, I can only spend about £30, £35 max Sad Any suggestions?

TessTheTeacher get yourself a pair of Havainas sp? Don't worry about them slipping off, they won't! They're the most comfortable, light, cushioned sole, summer sandal i've ever had! Natural rubber sole doesn't slap your feet and they'll keep your feet cool! You won't look like a granny you'll look cool! Some of these links are hideous, sorry! I'd get a pair of nude ones! Have a great holiday! Oh and under budget at around £20!

auntpetunia · 04/05/2013 09:39

Oh constantlurker they look fabulous, are they really comfy?

TheConstantLurker · 04/05/2013 11:03

Auntie- they are! Despite being flat with barely any support. They are rubbery so slightly cushioned and don't chafe.

This thread is too long and my phone keeps freezing but

I have the ideal shoes
these
(Not In white)

Ok teu don't fit your brief but... They look better on and they're so comfy, I can walk miles in them. They don't do that flip flop slip off thing and you don't have to curl your toes to keep them on. You can't feel the toe post but they make them more secure.
I have had them in black and have them in the brown and the silver/pewter which I am wearing now
I love them and if I won the lottery would buy a few pairs in each colour in case they stopped making them

polyhymnia · 04/05/2013 11:47

All respect to everyone who can walk in shoes like those with a toe-post - they really hurt me. The bit between my big and first toes seems to be even more super-sensitive than the rest of my feet.

And also just can't cope - and never have been able to - with sandals with no 'backs'/ straps that go round the back of your foot, like mules or flip-flops. Scrunching up my toes enough to keep them on on is a knack my feet have never learnt!

hopkinette · 04/05/2013 11:53

poly can you link to the thread where there was a discussion about some people's feet being more easily damaged than others'?

cerealqueen · 04/05/2013 12:16

I would never dream of wearing toe posts (too painful) till I tried some fitflops, amazingly comfortable. Don't buy those with a white sole though, they get filthy.

Ipanems are best fit flops, lightweight, more so than havaianas. They come up small though.

The m&s footglove looked the best, quite fancied them myself.

ZolaBuddleia · 04/05/2013 12:39

Just had a proper look at the crocs page I linked to and am mortified, they're fugly! Mine were from 2 years ago and were lovely wedges, honestly!!

polyhymnia · 04/05/2013 12:51

Hmm, I can't even cope with the toeposts in Fitflops - bleeding between toes after a 10 min. walk to supermarket. Pathetic!

hopkinette - it was a quite recent thread which started on a similar sort of subject to this - about wearing summer shoes without socks, I think. Have to go out now, but will try and look later.

GibberTheMonkey · 04/05/2013 12:55

I find normal toe posts painful. Especially where the pressure is on the toe post
The ones I linked to though the pressures on the main piece of leather and as the post is a bit of leather sideways its thin and doesn't dig in.
I cannot sing their praises enough. I walk a lot as I don't drive and I walk for fun too. I've worn them while trekking for hours on tracks and paths and also all over places like Paris.

ExRatty · 04/05/2013 13:17

if you are thinking flip flops these are brilliant
weirdly comfortable and as they go around your heel as well they are brilliantly easy to walk in

higgle · 04/05/2013 13:20

Has anyone mentioned Moshulu? their shoes are a bit grannyish but very comfy, the seville bright sandals are lovely here a it over budget but they sometimes have introductory discounts etc.

auntpetunia · 04/05/2013 13:43

Oh higgle Am loving the Nile and the Rhone just enough heel (Am 5ft11) and an ankle strap! ?

TheConstantLurker · 04/05/2013 14:11

Have we lost the op completely with our fitflops and flipflops?

coffeeinbed · 04/05/2013 14:45

We have, Lurker, about 30 posts ago.

hollyisalovelyname · 04/05/2013 18:48

Gibber- i have those Gabor from last summer- they're great and if you are getting a bunion they help keep your toe straight Smilewon't help those with bunions already i'd say though

hollyisalovelyname · 05/05/2013 23:04

Hotter Shoes, Heavenly Feet and Caprice are all brands that do comfy shoes. Check their websites.

Startail · 06/05/2013 01:42

Yes, but where are my heavenly feet wedge sandals. I can't find them or their bright red box. Both DDs claim to be innocent.

Since my brickstocks were on DD2's feet yesterday and her crocs are on ne, this may or may not be valid evidence of innocence.

Mumelie · 06/05/2013 07:40

I have similar problems to the OP - painful feet and knee issues - great looking but comfy sandals are indeed the holy grail!
Did buy from Next Solesurviver range last year http://www.next.co.uk/shop/nextrange-solesurvivor/category-sandals here. something similar to the leopard print metal tbar ones. so comfy - could walk for miles in them! Great price too. Only issue was the colour of the foot bed - got very grubby very quickly in the city Sad.
really recommend trying them though.

Mumelie · 06/05/2013 07:41

and seems I can't post a link from my phone! sorry about that Wink

Nehru · 06/05/2013 07:53

What about these?
www.clarks.co.uk/p/20350228

amessagetoyouYoni · 06/05/2013 07:59

There are some of the ugliest shoes I have ever seen on this thread Grin

Thing is, after a couple ofhours of walking, you wont care. I would buy something super comfy from Clarks, M&S Foot Gloves or Next Sole Survivors range and bung a pair ofpretty flip flops in your bag just in case.

Nehru · 06/05/2013 08:17

Those roman type ones like laced up Cornish pasties. They're the worst.

specialsubject · 06/05/2013 11:49

no such thing. And if you wear open toes on a busy city street, don't whine if you get your toes stubbed or trodden on. Or covered in dog poo in most of Europe.

all these shoes are ugly but there's no such thing as supportive, decent sandals that have pretty little straps.

summer city tourist outfit - long shorts, trainers (ideally not enormous, but with support) and whatever you wear on top. Job done.
