Those of you that home dye, do you do the allergy test each time?

Do you?

I never used to, but have recently delayed dyeing so I do. Not sure what changed!!

I was just thinking actually - when I was working FT I used quite swanky expensive salons which never did it Confused

What if my head had exploded? Shock

Areyoumadorisitme · 26/04/2013 19:54

Only when using a new brand and then not always. I know I should but I rarely know 48 hrs in advance when I'm going to have the time.

A bit worried now as I always use dark brown about every 3-4 weeks Confused.

Tasmania - you only mix a tiny bit

SwishSwoshSwoosh · 26/04/2013 19:55

I need to hide this thread, am worrying about you all too much! Shock

tasmaniandevilchaser · 26/04/2013 19:57

Ah thanks swish!

Never, ever. Can't be arsed. It takes me all my time to slap it on my greying roots. (And I have the skin of a rhino in general). I just assume 'yeah, it'll be fine'...

NedZeppelin · 26/04/2013 20:01

I've been dyeing for 29 years. Never patch tested until a few months ago, when I got a bout of paranoia. I developed a horrible burning red patch behind my ear so very glad I didn't do the full head. I'm now embracing the grey it's all them new fangled ingredients.

BunnyLebowski · 26/04/2013 20:03

After 20 years of home dyeing, blatantly disregarding the instructions and....shock horror........surviving, I reckon I'll take my chances without starting to patch test.

I have a strong constitution Wink

SwedishEdith · 26/04/2013 20:15

Because swish (if you're still there Grin) the patch test = first exposure and, usually no reaction. Body just perks up thinking 'what's that?' and you think 'great, no reaction, I can go ahead' 2nd time is when you put it on your head and then get teh allergic reaction. That's how I understadn it anyway. Happened to Sali Hughes - she of all things make-upy. Obviously if the patch test gives you a reaction, stay away

SwishSwoshSwoosh · 26/04/2013 20:18

But if the patch test alerts a person in even a minority of cases, that is better than no alert for those people, surely?

I accept it doesn't always work but better than nothing.

SwishSwoshSwoosh · 26/04/2013 20:19

I'm still here btw, was too worried to leave you Grin

Moln · 28/04/2013 23:30

I think the reaction is rare enough, didn't know dark colours were more so though!
