Where can I find a nice basic cardigan.

Requirements are:
Crew or v-neck is fine.
Not too expensive (no cashmere or hand wash )
I want some nice colours - not just black.
Buttons all the way down the front (not just one at the top).
Next have some but already sold out in size 14 (FFS) - same with M and S.

Any suggestions where else to try?

Thanks Thanks

I've got a couple of asda ones that are ok and very cheap so can get in a range of colours! The material's not too bad

FamiliesShareGerms · 18/03/2013 20:26

Uniqlo

Cloudminnow · 18/03/2013 20:27

H and M and Primark - lots of colours / crew neck and v

Jcee · 18/03/2013 20:46

I have this from M&S - it's a nice basic number for work, is soft and washes well

QueenCadbury · 18/03/2013 21:18

Oasis and h&m definitely have some in at the moment. Gap often do but not sure whether they have right now. Warehouse sometimes do. Mango often have them.

ArcticRoll · 19/03/2013 09:15

I've bought a lovely bright green one from Gap - will try to find link. Plus they have sale on at moment.

NorkilyChallenged · 19/03/2013 09:23

woolovers

lots of styles and colours, lovely buttons, good prices and all machine washable (am slightly addicted)

scarlet76 · 19/03/2013 09:36

Have just ordered one from H&M in a dusty pink colour. Also comes in teal.
I have high hopes! It's a silk cotton mix and machine washable.

dottyaboutstripes · 19/03/2013 10:31

I agree with Uniqlo

higgle · 19/03/2013 10:36

Another vote for Woolovers.

JumpHerWho · 19/03/2013 10:58

Another Woolovers fan here. Ignore the 1950s knitting pattern type photography, their stuff is ace, beautiful quality and totally bargainous compared with high st shops selling poly versions for the same price. I'm unlikely to buy knitwear anywhere else since discovering them.

Linky with a gazillion cardis. They are cashmere/merino or cotton/silk, but machine washable on a gentle cycle.

I have that cardi too JCee and it is a really good basic. Its ben washed a few times and its stayed true. I bought it in the petite in black and I am going to buy another one to keep as a spare (I do that a lot!).

abbyfromoz · 19/03/2013 11:31

Has anyone said Zara yet? Seriously... Zara... They are like £20 come in loads of colours and can find different lengths and necklines.

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 19/03/2013 11:36

I'd never heard of Woolover but have just a look. They have such a HUGE choice - and exactly the sort of cardigan I've been looking for since my old one got an enormous hole in it almost 2 years ago.

Thank you, lovely MNers, for the recommendation. Thanks

[Skips off to place a large order]

Startail · 19/03/2013 11:41

Woolover fans I love you! Thanks never bothered with them because of the name.

DD1 and me are both allergic to wool, but they have loads of cotton and silk options, off to go look on a big screen. My neutral cardigan and DDs grey one are both dying.

UtterflyButterfly · 19/03/2013 12:14

Another one here who hadn't heard of Woolovers and am now trying to stop myself from ordering many many items! Lovely choice of colours too.

allmycats · 19/03/2013 12:19

another woolovers fan here

DaffodilsAhoy · 19/03/2013 22:45

Jumperherwho - do you find the woolovers stuff bobbles? I'm a bit scarred by them since a cardigan I bought bobbled really badly and looked tatty quite quickly.

They do have the most amazing range of colours.

Daffodils - they warn you on the care leaflet about nibbling, you need one of those little shaver things. it's just a feature of wool but after the first couple if washes it stops, just loose fibres working their way out

NorkilyChallenged · 20/03/2013 07:46

not "nibbling"! that was meant to say "bobbling" Grin Grin

DaffodilsAhoy · 20/03/2013 07:59

Nibbling cardigans, whatever next?!

Another Woolovers convert here!
Does anyone know how their sizing comes up? I'm a 8-10.

CuttedUpPear · 20/03/2013 08:07

Oh - just found their useful sizing chart. Will measure my nice fitting jumper for comparision.

bigTillyMint · 20/03/2013 08:10

Another vote for Woolovers here - got a few cardi's and jumpers and all are lovely and lasting wellSmile
