I absolutely love LRP. The Effaclar line has really helped and I love their foundation (have not touched my Chanel foundation after discovering it). Worth reading Makeupalley before purchasing as they have gazillion products and every skin is different. Three to four of their products are Holy Grail status for me.

SOTD Oud Wood here as well. Isn't it absolutely stunning? Wink Slightly smokey woody goodness, instant comfort and relaxation.

Fuzzybirds · 29/03/2013 11:59

Haber No, I've not tried Cabochard yet but may get a small bottle at some point, I'm not very good at recognising individual florals to be honest. Strangely I found the florals in Knize Ten reminded me a bit of Bal a Versailles Confused
Have a lovely time in France and enjoy the sunshine!

Oud Wood is on the to try list now, haven't yet ventured into Oud territory...

SOTD is a mixture of Teint De Neige and Guerlain Meteorites (inspired by Kiwi's TdN/ Lipstick Rose combo) powdery, make-up, violet heaven Grin

Haberdashery · 29/03/2013 15:42

I will definitely check out LRP! Thanks! I saw some today in Boots and then thought I would wait until next week as it will probably be cheaper in France.

I will look up the notes in Bal a Versailles I think, Fuzzy, and see if I can work out what it is. It's really bugging me.

MrsSchadenfreude · 29/03/2013 16:10

LRP is cheaper in Boots than it is in France! (And Bourjois make up is about half the price in UK.) But you won't get the full range of stuff that you get in France. It is great stuff - and I would also recommend the Bioderma Eau Micellaire cleansing water - the holy grail of cleansers, which is coming to UK soon. Also Filorga skin care, which is $$$ but works, and which you can now get in M & S.

Haberdashery · 29/03/2013 17:19

Seriously? I haven't noticed that before (but I rarely buy things I can get in the UK in France). I usually confine myself to Le Petit Marseillais and nice deodorant that smells of eau de cologne. And food. I have Bioderma stuff and love it but am on the lookout for a new moisturiser so was thinking of trying LRP. I am having a lot of trouble with my skin at the mo (suspect approaching menopause or perimenopause, as am 44).

Haberdashery · 29/03/2013 17:22

Also Mixa hand cream (like Kiehls but a quarter of the price).

Dawndonna · 29/03/2013 19:12

I'm wearing Laura Ashley Green Meadow today and have just bought Caudalie Zeste.
I do wish though, that somebody could work out why I turn most scents into something similar to cat spray. Most people think I'm exagerrating. I go into department stores and the women behind the counters listen, then tell me their scent won't do it. It does. The woman at the Jo Malone counter in Harrods last year, asked me to leave!

OneLittleLady · 29/03/2013 19:22

I don't turn scents into cat spray, I turn them into something very Toilet Duck like. I always test before I buy for that very reason. Sales assistants don't believe me either until the smell it on my skin for themselves.

CointreauVersial · 29/03/2013 21:22

SOTD is Calypso by Robert Piguet, thanks to a kind swapper.Wink Thanks It started off very like Estee Lauder Pleasures, which is one of my mainstream faves, soft spicy florals, but it didn't really project or last long. I think I'll put more on next time.

MrsSchadenfreude · 29/03/2013 21:37

Isn't Mixa handcream the same as Atrixo? Or am I thinking of something else?!

What is your eau de cologne scented deodorant, Habs? I tend to stick to dull old Dove. I can really recommend Filorga for more, ahem, mature skin. Blush

FrugalFashionista · 29/03/2013 21:42

Reposting this Bois de Jasmin parapharmacie blog post just in case!

My brother is in Paris right now and I gave him standard perfumista instructions where to shop Wink

OneLittleLady · 29/03/2013 21:44

SOTD is an unnamed mystery sample that I found hiding in the bottom of my drawer. The lettering has rubbed off the side of the sample so I have no idea what it is. Quite a delicate scent whatever it is, hints of green tea, some kind of white flower and something that smells a little like bay leaves [buhmm]

coffeeinbed · 29/03/2013 22:59

No SOTD.
Nose still broken/stuffy.
Such a waste.

pocketandsweet · 30/03/2013 06:56

I have been wondering something (and being a perfume thread this seems to be the perfect place to ask). Do any of you LRP lovers notice a funny smell in some of their products? I use the Antihelios with no problem but I was given a sample of the Lipikar body cream and I couldn't bear it. To me it had a funny burnt off sort of smell. I thought maybe it was my sample and so I went into Boots to try and although it was a bit weaker it was still definitely there. The girl working in Boots couldn't smell it though. It was a shame because I have very dry legs and thought it might be perfect. So can anyone else smell it?

FrugalFashionista · 30/03/2013 07:20

Pocket cosmetics and many household products are perfumed because their base/active ingredients usually smell a bit funky on their own.
Ever wondered why suncreens are often perfumed with coconut or dishwashing liquids tend to be lemony? These particular scents cover typical base key ingredients well (synthetic tensides tend to smell greasy on their own - dinnerware that smells greasy after being washed is not ideal).

I do not have Lipicar but comparable Eucerin products smell a bit off and I have a great LRP makeup base that smells a bit like corn oil (the used/stale kind) after application. The whiff dissipates quickly but not my favorite product.

Perfumes in cosmetics are common sensitizers - I'm personally allergic to something (think it the ingredient has been phased out now because I've worn hundreds of perfumes without reaction, but used to get an awful itchy rash from Stella by Stella McCartney and L'Eau parfumee au the rouge by Bulgari and am still allergic to many cosmetics - Dior makeup contains something really evil). So more and more people avoid perfume in their everyday cosmetics and household products. I prefer unscented cosmetics, creams and laundry products (fabric softener is banned in our house), mostly because I don't want to smell of shrill laundry musks and as a daily perfume wearer I do not like clashing smells. Hair products can smell particularly vile (loud fruity-sweet) and the smell of L'Occitane hand creams is really queasy (rose and lemon-vanilla from hell).

Ladame · 30/03/2013 08:40

I know what you mean Pocket, I like LRP Toleriane range and it does smell a little bit musty, but I don?t really mind because it dissipates very quickly. I have an Estee Lauder moisturizer and it smells so great but sooo perfumed, I can feel it irritating my skin as soon as I put it on. The Toleriane facial cleansing milk is brilliant as a hot cloth cleanser, I massage it in and take if off with a hot flannel, then you have an exfoliation at the same time. I have to be careful with my skin because I have Lupus (I would be very boring on an episode of House ? you know the script ... ?test for lupus, sarcoidosis and amyloidosis? ... Cameron : ?it?s lupus? ... cue end music after five mins Grin) Anyway, getting side-tracked, LRP never ever upsets my skin and I love it. They do a fantastic lip care called Ceralip which softens and plumps up, a quick buff with a toothbrush and some of that and you?ll be like Anjelina Jolie. I?m glad they now have LRP in the UK, although perhaps not all of it (it?s such a huge range) because when my sis comes over, we have to weigh her cabin luggage about five times as she buys so much and paranoid about being over the allowance. I always end up having to send her stuff she has left here. SotD is last night?s Oud Wood with a little bit of Fox Terrier (up for a cuddle on my lap at the mo ? strangely nice combo) won?t last, off for shower and a rummage in my drawers Smile for something citrussy.

florascotia · 30/03/2013 10:08

SOTD = sample of Creed's Irisia. In spite of its name, not very floral - apart from delicious green beginning. But that fades in a few minutes (sigh) and now I'm getting a very posh and rather glamorous but extraordinarily old-fashioned smell. By the minute it's getting richer, woodier, mossier, more powdery, more powerful. A bit like an expensively-dressed grand old lady, with full make-up, elaborate hair, impressive real jewellery... Imposing!

Just NOT my style - am about to go outside and get to grips with compost heap - though on the right person it could smell good for a very formal occasion. If any one would like the sample, please let me know. I'd be happy to pass it on - no swap needed.

FrugalFashionista · 30/03/2013 10:20

[buwink] Flora!

SOTD: Cardinal by Heeley. This is an almost exact dupe of Avignon by CdG, one of my all-time favorite perfumes (have a backup bottle just in case). A perfect rendition of Easter midnight mass. Love! (But if you have one of these, you don't need the other - wouldn't be able to tell them apart.)

Oh, and in the spirit of Easter, the holiest-smelling perfume I know if Oud by Mona di Orio. I'm sure they use a candle/ room spray version of it in Heaven...

clb · 30/03/2013 11:44

Ooh, v interested to hear that Cardinal=Avignon, thank you Frugal. I tried Cardinal the other day and loved it but it comes only in an expensive and too big 100ml bottle.

OneLittleLady · 30/03/2013 14:54

Thank you so much pocketandsweet my parcel arrived this morning and totally brightened my day. Such lovely packaging inside as well, it was a very nice touch. More importantly, thank you for the good wishes. Thanks

Haberdashery · 30/03/2013 15:26

MrsSchadenfreude Nooooo, Mixa is ace and Atrixo is barely moisturising at all. The orange Mixa handcream is seriously just like Kiehl's Ultimate Hand Salve only much much cheaper (and it doesn't smell the same, which is a shame as I quite like the Kiehl's slightly eucalyptusy smell). The cologne deodorant I like is Narta. It's a pale green translucent stick that doesn't leave any white marks and smells just like plain classic eau de cologne. Lovely stuff.

OneLittleLady · 30/03/2013 18:52

I am wearing Eau Dynamisante as sent to me by pocketandsweet. I really like it, on my skin it smells fresh and clean.Slightly soapy and a little masculine but I like it.

pocketandsweet · 30/03/2013 20:28

Glad I could provide you with a little diversion onelittlelady Smile

MrsSchadenfreude · 30/03/2013 21:11

Today I have been sniffing Serge Lutens' Vitriol d'Oeillet. First sniff, thought it was revolting - mothballs, camphor, old ladies' damp fur coats. Then it settled down to quite a peppery carnation, and I really quite liked it. But don't love it. Although the name is great!

Re hand cream, Haberdashery, I will give the Mixa one a go. I alternate between whatever's on offer at the parapharmacy and Flexitol. I have eczema on my hands (for the first time in 20 years) and have to be careful what I put on them at the moment, so am using LRP Lipikar.

Haberdashery · 30/03/2013 22:13

I am pretty sensitive to a lot of skin stuff, MrsSchadenfreude, and haven't had any problems with Mixa. Their baby stuff was also great for hyper-sensitive DD. Will look out for Lipikar. I have very dry skin on my hands and body so the Mixa orange allantoine range works really well for me. My face is a different matter, oddly, and I spend most of my time looking like a spotty wrinkly oil slick, which is not a great look and one I'd like to leave behind. Hence searching for a more convenable moisturiser. Anyone with tips, feel free to recommend!

I really need to do some Serge Lutens sniffing. I am very attracted by a lot of the odder notes that people smell in his stuff. Camphor and mothballs is olfactory heaven for me. I'm probably going to end up as a crazy old perfume lady smelling of weird with people backing away from me in Sainsburys.
