LOL at unwashed sock!

DD is keen on cakes and sweets in the edible format, but like me not so keen on the perfume kind apart from spicy cinnamony things.

DH is a scent philistine. He does admit to liking Tauers on me, particularly Lonestar Memories, and he once told me that he loved the perfume I used to wear all the time when I met him 'because it didn't smell like perfume'. That was Premier Figuier and I sort of know what he meant.

ToysRLuv · 14/04/2013 21:51

OneLittleLady: That's a good description - ASD or not.. I have to say that I dislike Aromatics Elixir, as well. My mum used to have it in the 80s. She now wears my reject perfumes and Impulse body sprays Grin She's a pragmatic, bless her! I've got the same fragrance loving genes as my aunt, who wouldn't even buy shoes if they didn't smell right/nice..

ToysRLuv · 14/04/2013 21:58

DH probably likes flowery, sweet, fresh/light stuff on me, but is pretty open minded apart from chemical toilet smells and burning wood (Zagorsk). He would probably faint if he knew the total sum of money I've spent on perfume in the last couple of years.. "We should try not to spend money on stuff we already have". But I HAVEN'T GOT Lipstick Rose and Chocolate Greedy and Carnal Flower and On the Beach 1966...... Confused

CointreauVersial · 14/04/2013 22:11

My DCs are my harshest critics perfume-wise. They usually get a whiff of what I'm wearing in the car on the way to school, and they're not afraid to say exactly what they think.

DH remains fairly oblivious to most fragrances I wear, but has definitely noticed that my tastes have changed. He wishes I still wore L'Eau D'Issy, which is what I wore when I met him.

garlicyoni · 15/04/2013 00:32

Spritzing a little Coriandre (thank you, Flora Smile) on the thread to mark my place. I like it! I've been beleaguered this last few weeks but will catch up soon, oh fragrant ones.

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 15/04/2013 08:37

OneLittleLady- I love Chanel No 19, and I love your son's description of it too!

pocketandsweet · 15/04/2013 10:43

Well I just wrote a long message which seems to have been eaten by the ether. Grr. I was wondering whether anyone might know if L'A P are likely to have a sale anytime soon? I can't remember who mentioned it way back but I have decided based on my Christmas sampler that I need a bottle of PFiguier Extreme. I can't really justify the spend BUT sitting here surrounded by all this figgy gorse fumes is just so lovely. I am hoping someone is going to come on here and say "oh yes they nearly always have a sale in April".... Clutching at straws basically before I dust off my credit card. Also has anyone smelt PF Extreme and original PF? how different/similar are they? And how do they compare to the much-mentioned Ninfeo Mio ( which I have yet to smell).... Wondering if I need to smell all three before I make my mind up about a full bottle purchase.

ToysRLuv · 15/04/2013 10:52

pocket: Sorry, no idea about sale, but have you tried Diptyque Philosykos? That's meant to be a very good fig leaf, similar to PF..

pocketandsweet · 15/04/2013 10:54

no. I forgot that is my other fig I need to try.

SueFawley · 15/04/2013 10:59

Well after yesterday's test session I know that I don't freesia notes in a fragrance.
I sampled 'Reflection Woman' by Amouage and it was awful on me.

In my quest for a nice spring/summer fragrance, I did remember I used to like one of the Guerlain Aqua Allegoria range, Pamplelune. May need to track some more of that down and try it again.

FrugalFashionista · 15/04/2013 11:08

Pocket last year the L'A sale started on June 30th or thereabouts. There is another after Christmas.

SOTD Miriam by Tauer.

ToysRLuv · 15/04/2013 11:11

Hermes' Un Jardin En Mediterranee is actually also a fig leaf fragrance. Have sampled all of the other Jardins (which are great, esp. for summer), but no idea about that one..

pocketandsweet · 15/04/2013 11:11

Thanks frugal... I may hold off and order samples of all the other figs in the meantime Smile

SueFawley · 15/04/2013 11:21

I've just rummaged through my samples and I've got a couple of figs to try. The first is Premier Figuier Extreme by L'aP and the other is Fig Tea which I think is PdN.
I'm not sure I've ever tried a fig fragrance on me but I used to buy the Diptyque Figuier candle years ago, and loved it.

pocketandsweet · 15/04/2013 11:31

Um thanks guys. More figs! Enablers! They are on the list then too. I really love the Premier Figuier Extreme ... I can't imagine liking another more BUT I may as well smell them all before I buy a Fb. Can I just say how much I LOVE THIS THREAD. It is a total high point of my day to read what everyone else is up to ( and to think of habers little daughter reading Le Snob). My two girls are becoming quite discriminating little noses. It is important work we do here.

ToysRLuv · 15/04/2013 11:44

pocket: Enablers Grin Then I WON'T mention Coco Figue by Comptoir Sud Pacifique (which is now on my list to try). However it's meant to be a tiny bit sweeter than then aforementioned ones, so might not be your cup of fig (or something) Smile

I forgot that I absolutely MUST have a coconutty/sun creamy summer fragrance like Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess (original or this years, which is meant to be similar) or Bobbi Brown Beach. Coco Figue might just fill that hole.. but, hey, maybe next summer. I'll stick to enabling in the mean time..

pocketandsweet · 15/04/2013 11:54

thanks toys. I need to MAKE money not SPEND money . The bronze Goddess was on my list to try as well. AND because of you I spent too much time finding out about Zagorsk....

Financially speaking things would be better if I just went back to my bottle of No.19. Grin

SueFawley · 15/04/2013 11:56

I love this thread too. I've lurked on all 4 of them. Actually I think I may have posted on the first, but otherwise I've been here by stealth, making notes and reviving my love for fragrance.

I didn't try one of the figs this morning. I tried 1873 by histoires de parfums, which on paper should be lovely. However I hate it. It's got a very harsh grapefruit note to my nose, that hasn't softened at all since I put it on almost half an hour ago. Nothing else has developed just this grapefruit. It does remind me a tad of the Guerlain Pamplelune one but this one just isn't nice at all on me.
I'm going to scrub it off and try Premier Figuier Extreme although I fear I will adore it and my credit card is going to take another hit Grin

pocketandsweet · 15/04/2013 12:01

My turn to enable. If you like Grapefruit.. Eau Vitaminee by Biotherm. it is more of an Eau de Cologne than perfume. Very light and can be sprayed with great abandon. It is (sadly) the only perfume my husband actually LIKES. I also like it ( but hundreds of others as well). Eau d'energie also Biotherm... This one is oranges. Both are very inexpensive and lovely when it is hot. Sorry about erratic capitalisation.... iPad.

ToysRLuv · 15/04/2013 12:07

Oh dear, pocket.. No. 19 is fab! Grin

Sue: I can't do citrus in perfumes.. it really smells harsh on me. And I'm sick to death of lemon, because of the huge bottles of colognes (which are probably good quality, but nevertheless) used for refreshing yourself in the Mediterranean throughout the day esp. on public transport (my mum is Greek).

pocketandsweet · 15/04/2013 12:11

kalimera toys. I'm not Greek but spent 10 years excavating there and hence my love of figs, citrus and anything that might smell like a beach near heat soaked pine forest and olive groves.

ToysRLuv · 15/04/2013 12:13

On the budget front: I'm sat here smothered in some solid Breath of God. It's relatively cheap and the packet fell in the toilet a couple of weeks ago (it was closed, and the water was clean, but nevertheless). It's really nice and bubblegummy. I think I should have invested in the liquid version of this rather than Icon, although I like both. See, I'm even using eau (or solids Grin ) de toilette (literally). DH can't complain.

ToysRLuv · 15/04/2013 12:13

Oh, kalimeraaa! Whereabouts were you working?

pocketandsweet · 15/04/2013 12:27

Mostly Peloponnesus ( several places) but also Mytilini.

ToysRLuv · 15/04/2013 12:39

Ah.. My family's from the north (Edessa, Thessaloniki), so the smells are somewhat different. More greenery and rivers up there..

I got Traversee du Bosphore because of the Loukoumi and spice notes that remind me of Greece. It's definitely also about finding a feel good mood, evoking memories with a fragrance for me now, instead of just finding fragrances that "smell good", but mean nothing to me.
