Breath of God sounds right up my street (and maybe Frugal's too)!

OneLittleLady · 12/04/2013 21:37

I tried one of the Lush solid perfumes, I think it was called Lust. Was nice but very full on. Wasn't at all wishy washy and delicate, it was strong and ever so slightly masculine. Very musky and deep. I'll have to dig it out and see if it's as nice as I remember it being.

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 12/04/2013 23:28

I've tried some of the Lush gorilla perfumes. They all smell very trademark Lush but they are very good. I especially liked The Smell of the Weather Turning and Icon.

SueFawley · 13/04/2013 09:44

Can anyone help me with suggestions for spring/summer appropriate fragrances?
I tend to love things like Coromandel, SL Chergui, a couple of the Andy Tauers, Tom Ford Bois Marocain, Tabac Blond, so I guess they are spicy orientals? Anyway, those are the ones I love but they feel like autumn/winter type fragrances to me. The only summery perfume I've ever loved is D&G Light Blue. I confess to still liking it but want to try something different! Any recommendations to try please?

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 13/04/2013 09:52

Chanel Cristalle is very green and summery, and the Cristalle Eau Verte version is divine and smells like really fresh tulips.

I also recommend Eau de Cartier for summer- it's very light and refreshing (and addictive).

I love green notes and citrus for summer. I tend to avoid anything vanilla or gourmand in hot weather. it smells sticky.

Also I recently tried Jo Loves Green Orange and Coriander and that would be lovely in summer (It's Jo Malone's new range since she left the brand)

MrsMaryCooper · 13/04/2013 10:01

Hi

Well I have a spritzer of Breath of God (10ml £16), after the intial blast of tar & cigarettes, it dries down to a nice sort of mossy/dusty scent. When I'm a bit warmer some citrus comes through.

I'm starting to really like it.

I can see why Lush have so many sales people and why they are so keen for you to try things on though, because I would have never bought it on the initial sniff!

FrugalFashionista · 13/04/2013 10:31

It's summer and very warm here. Cinema by YSL is a great light warm-weather amber and smelled gorgeous on a passer-by yesterday. I wear heavy orientals and ambers and masculines in the winter but when it's really hot I revert to citruses and irises (La Pausa, Le Labo, Prelude To Love By Kilian).

Today wearing Especially Escada. A laundry-detergent rose in the style of Ralph Lauren's Romance (do you know RL completely lost his sense of smell in a brain op circa 1987 - this may explain why some of his recent 'fumes are so trashy). Smells brisk, efficient and virtuous (deeply unsexy). Planning on doing a lot of decluttering/organizing today...

pocketandsweet · 13/04/2013 10:40

Off to a wedding today. Cristalle Eau Verte I think will be perfect for me. Dds are going to be flower girls so they will probably get a little dab of perfume too if they like. I would bet on the 3 year old going for something massive and 7 year old going restrained. The sun is actually shining !

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 13/04/2013 10:51

pocket- Eau Verte sounds so right for weddings and flower girls! Lovely!

FrugalFashionista · 13/04/2013 13:05

This weekend I'm transitioning from winter to summer - out go the orientals, leathers and ambers. In: mostly light and refreshing scents, but a couple of ambre-lites and herby masculines too:

Bergamote by The Different Company
De Bachmakov by The Different Company
Eau de Tarocco by Diptyque
Eau Sauvage by Dior
Miriam by Tauer
Aedes de Venustas EdP
Tubereuse by Mona di Orio
Terre d'Hermes
Un Jardin sur le Nil by Hermes
Iris Ukioye by Hermes
London by Guerlain
Defile New York by Histoires des Parfums
1725 Casanova by Histoires des Parfums
Chanel No. 19 EdT (vintage)
Chanel No. 19 EdP
Cinema by YSL
Spanish Leather by Geo F Trumper
Antaues by Chanel
Yatagan by Caron
Zagorsk by Comme des Garcons

Very excited about my summer perfume wardrobe Grin
Ladies, which perfumes are your summer favorites?

FrugalFashionista · 13/04/2013 13:22

SueFawley this article in Elle - Perfume for a Rainy Day is written by one of the savvies perfumistas around. Some great suggestions there!

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 13/04/2013 13:38

She is Boid de Jasmin isn't she? her site is second to none.

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 13/04/2013 13:39

Sorry Bois de Jasmin

FrugalFashionista · 13/04/2013 16:40

Yes Chocs, Victoria Frolova (the author of the article) is Bois de Jasmin. Her blog is fantastic - well worth reading if someone here wants to learn more about perfumes.

Made a long walk and finally tried Jour d'Hermes at a local department store. I absolutely loved the first 5 seconds (radiant freshness, smelled a bit rhubarb-y to me) but then it morphed into a tame and muted shampoo smell on my skin. I much prefer Aedes de Venustas EdP and Un Jardin sur les Toits by Hermes.

OneLittleLady · 13/04/2013 17:42

I found a purse spray bottle of Valentino Vendetta today for £1.99. Never heard of it before but I like it. Very strong opening with some green notes, not sure what they are though. florals ofin the shape of rose and jasmine a little later. Lots of musk in the dry down. Definitely a scent for night time wear, it would be eye wateringly over the top for daytime

OneLittleLady · 13/04/2013 18:18

Hmmm, can you ladies help me identify something? I've tried googling but have got nowhere. Anyway, I found, in the depths of some old bags, a bottle of Eau de Toilette. There's no lid and the only identifying mark on the bottle is a raised, whitish/opaque bow. There's no name anywhere on the bottle, the only thing I know is that it was apparently made in france. That's according to the sticker on the bottom anyway. It smells very strong, woody and a little soapy. Very clean. Anyone have any idea what this mystery bottle could be? TIA

OneLittleLady · 13/04/2013 19:19

As extra info, the mystery scent I mentioned above now has a fair amount of leather notes coming through. Not sure if that's by design or just the way it smells on my skin. If it wasn't for the bow on the bottle, I would have pegged it as a male scent if I was just blind testing it. Still no clue as to what it actually is though.

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 13/04/2013 19:30

It's Cabochard. Lucky you!

OneLittleLady · 13/04/2013 19:31

Is that good? I can't remember where it came from you see.

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 13/04/2013 19:32

Does it look like this? It was made by Parfums Gres in 1953 although has been reformulated. It's a very good leather chypre and I love my bottle with the opaque bow!

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 13/04/2013 19:33

It's been around for years but it's very good. I layer mine with musk for extra ooomph.

OneLittleLady · 13/04/2013 19:35

Yes! It looks exactly like that except I have no lid for it. I have absolutely no idea where I picked it up or how long I've had it. I was clearing out old bags and stumbled across it in the bottom of a tesco carrier! A full bottle no less Grin

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 13/04/2013 19:43

Lucky you. I didn't "get" Cabochard straight away but when I tried Balmain de Balmain and Balmain Jolie Madame I couldn't get hold of Cabochard fast enough. The Balmains converted me to chypres and leathers. It's a real gem and not very expensive.

Madame Gres was a Paris couturier who entered the world of perfume with her first perfume Cabochard. After she dies, Parfume Gres carried on. They also makes the lovely Cabotine and Gres Cabaret. I can't speak for all the numerous Cabotine flankers though, they are hit and miss...

OneLittleLady · 13/04/2013 19:45

Seems to have been my lucky day today. Makes a change I can tell you. I'm very curious as to where I got it from though, it's very very different to everything else I own scent wise.

auldspinster · 13/04/2013 19:54

Sounds like Cabouchard
