Are these shoes hideous?

Orthopedic or stylish? I just can't make up my mind.

I need a full shoe for walking about in wettish weather with a baby/buggy. I only really wear brown shoes. Brogues usually, with high waisted wide legged trousers or knee length a line skirts/dresses.

I think they are a bit too lesbian-y for my taste. But they are ok.

sweetiepie1979 · 07/03/2013 21:51

Oh god no

EchoBitch · 07/03/2013 21:53

Nope.
They're men's shoes.

britishbakeoff · 07/03/2013 21:54

Which, sweetypie? Koala's or mine or both? Grin

Pseudonymity · 07/03/2013 22:02

I prefer these from R&B op, a bit more elegant and 40s maybe? I agree the sole of the ones you linked is not so nice.

UnrequitedSkink · 07/03/2013 22:03

The boden ones are nicer...but can I just ask, why are you moving to Canada? I am SO Envy

UnrequitedSkink · 07/03/2013 22:04

Ooh, actually, Pseudo's ones are good!

MrsKoala · 07/03/2013 22:09

pseudo - thanks, but far too chelsea bootish for my irrational mind. :)

unrequited - because we fancy an adventure! dh has quit his job and we are moving to vancouver to start a business :) very scary, so i definitely need the right shoes!

Still vair jealous. Snot fair.

Anyway, worrabout these

UnrequitedSkink · 07/03/2013 22:11

You're right though, the right shoes will make everything fall into place!

mejon · 07/03/2013 22:14

I like them - I wore lots of similar ones in my teens. They are quite pricey but as you say now's not really the time to be looking for boots so you may struggle to find an alternative. They make a refreshing change from those bloody Acne/Acme stack heeled monstrosities that everyone on here raves about. Those Office boots someone linked to though look like ruddy clown boots Grin.

MrsKoala · 07/03/2013 22:22

what are Acme boots?

OP posts:
BanoffeeSplitz · 08/03/2013 02:30

I quite like them - they remind me of these boots from Toast but your ones look a bit more wearable, lower at the ankle.

But if I was going to spend £195, I'd spend it on these from Grenson.

BanoffeeSplitz · 08/03/2013 02:32

(The Grenson ones I think would wear in until they were as comfy as old DMs, and last forever if you looked after the heels & soles).

mejon · 08/03/2013 12:57

MrsKoala - Acne (not Acme!) boots. I like both those BanoffeeSplitz has linked to too.

comeonpilgrim · 08/03/2013 15:02

I like them. The stupid tag on the laces spoils them, but that's easily fixed.

katrinefonsmark · 08/03/2013 15:11

It totally depends what you look like. I'm short with thick lower legs so would look like a little thick set plumber. If you're skinny, maybe tall, have an aristocratic bearing they will probably enhance your already brilliant looks.

It reminds me, the other day I say a mum with heeled pixie boots, ecru ribbed tights and 3/4 length culottes. She looked gorgeous. if I'd tried it I'd have looked like Rupert. I knew she must be foreign. Turned out she was Spanish. She had very finely turned ankles and skinny legs so looked great.

MrsKoala · 08/03/2013 15:12

holy shit those acne boots are disgusting! so mid 90's. If someone wearing those , disliked my shoes, i would be relieved!

i like the Grenson ones, but they are identical to the brogue shoes i already own, just more of a boot.

I also think dark hair and olive skin looks great against these sorts of tweedy English things. If you're fair/freckly/tabby they blend with you and don't look so good. Pure pale gingers and blondes would probably suit them OK.

katrinefonsmark · 08/03/2013 15:16

The acne ones are so Katie Holmes and all the others of her age, not interesting at all but go with lots of things.

ilovepicnmix · 08/03/2013 15:20

I love them.

MrsKoala · 08/03/2013 15:21

katrine - i am 5ft 10in, very long legs, broad shoulders, flat chest, good poise from ballet. i'm carrying a bit of baby weight which is shifting at about 3lb per week so a size 14 now. Should be back to my fighting weight in 6 weeks.

Lust as an aside this is one of the worst examples of celeb footwear I've ever seen. See 2nd pic: here

MrsKoala · 08/03/2013 15:25

i have long dark hair but pale skin and green eyes. i do wear tweed and flannel type trousers and shirts/v necks and pearls/alex monroe (gold) jewellery.
