Part 2 is nearly full!

I've got a small sample bottle of Jo Malone Orange blossom which is quite nice. But not sure I'd want a large bottle of it. Also got a tiny bottle of Blue Agava and Cacoa bath oil also by JM. That's quite strong but I like it. Not sure what the perfume itself would be like. A bit too strong I think. The Apres l'ondee has spoilt me for everything else now it seems. Grin

Snap: I've been trying a sample of SL Fleurs d'Oranger today, too. Quite liking it: I've got lots of tuberose as well as the orange blossom, and I don't find it too overwhelmingly sweet. I didn't spot the cumin which is allegedly in there, but I'm about to reapply and may be able to detect the finer points better when I'm not making ribollita, as I have been this morning. Sillage quite impressive; longevity less so, though the dry down is very pleasant.

Fuzzybirds · 02/02/2013 17:19

I tried Boudoir today, I like it a lot, might have to treat myself to a mini. Also tried Hermes L'Ambre des Merveilles but although I generally love Amber, I found this one very sweet and after a while it reminded me very much of Flowerbomb. No joy on finding Balenciaga or any of the other violet scents I want to try so the search continues!

AwkwardSquad · 02/02/2013 19:12

I had another little play today. I tried Chanel Sycomor on a tester card - lovely. Tried it on the back of my hand - hideous after about half an hour, sickly sweet. A bit like orange flavoured boiled sweets. I have a sample of Coromandel so I'll try that tomorrow. I also tried Miller Harris L'air du Rien, that turned into rather harsh cinnamon and talc on me. Quite odd. Not good. Tom Ford Tuscan Leather - I wasn't sure to begin with but it is developing and softening beautifully so I'd like to try it again without the other test sprays on various bits of my hands, muddling up the smell. I had a lovely time testing and chatting!

CointreauVersial · 02/02/2013 19:27

Fuzzy - Ambre de Merveilles is on my wish list.

I finally got around to trying Knize Ten today. Whoah, leather and rubber overload. It is very masculine; I'll try it again but I'm not sure it floats my boat.

IsabelleRinging · 02/02/2013 19:43

Tuscan leather has an amazing dry down, it's one of the only fragrances I've tried that really seemed to melt into the skin and smell better as the day wore on. It is on my long to buy list!

I tried my sample of Annick Goutal Matin d'Orage today. OMG I had to scrub, it made feel ill. I hoped it would be a really fresh green floral, and it is, but there is one note, not sure what it is, that gives it a cucumber smell. I found a similar note in Hermes Apres a la Mousson, could it be ginger?

coffeeinbed · 02/02/2013 19:47

Ambre des Merveiiles has me undecided.
I adore all of the series - vile Elixir apart - not am still unsure about this.
Too much vanilla in the dry down.

Must give Knize a sniff. I keep reading about it.
Boudoir for some reason turned soapy powder. I distinctly remember liking it and the dirtyness of it, but not this time, I tried it a couple of weeks ago.

Serge Lutens Oranger is a marvel, I used up a bottle and have a second one waiting, but it's very silage-y, careful when spraying!

coffeeinbed · 02/02/2013 19:48

Isabell - melon in Orage, unripe mango in Mousson.
Scrubbers indeed.

AwkwardSquad · 02/02/2013 20:07

Now I'm getting fag ash from the Tuscan Leather. Really not sure, but definitely intrigued!

Does anyone remember Demeter? Dirt and Lettuce and Grass and so on? Just having a nostalgic moment about Dirt.

Haberdashery · 02/02/2013 20:11

Incense Rosé today. Love this. It's absolutely bone dry but very very luxurious.

Fuzzybirds · 02/02/2013 20:19

The more I try the more I realise I love 'in your face' perfumes. Which is odd seeing as I am so not an in your face person Grin

I splashed out on a fb of L'Artisan's Ambre Extreme last week, so I kind of HAVE to prefer it to L'Ambre des Merveilles. Ambre Extreme is like a big, fluffy, comforting bear hug in a bottle, love at first sniff for me.

niminypiminy · 02/02/2013 20:27

Wearing Shalimar from my new fb of the EdP today, tra la! I had a tiny bottle of the EdT before, but the EdP is sooo much more wonderful. I'd love to have a bottle of the Parfum, but funds won't permit at the moment.

Anyway, very happy with my new purchases (my bottle of Samsara came at the same time). Fuzzybirds I like big perfumes too -- don't think I am very in your face .

Haberdashery · 02/02/2013 21:01

I spent years thinking I only liked quiet floral green things. But I realise that I rather love a bit of in your face, too. I think I was trying the wrong in your face things before. And I still dislike 99% of gourmands intensely. But once I stepped off the beaten track and stopped smelling things with that awful identical powdery musk note in them I realised that THAT was the problem and not the bigness, IYSWIM.

My favourite Demeter was Tomato. I also liked (this will surprise none of you) Rubber.

AwkwardSquad · 02/02/2013 21:22

I liked tomato too, Haberdasher. I wore Dirt and Tomato at the same time. Probably smelt like an allotment.

AwkwardSquad · 02/02/2013 21:22

Haberdashery! Oops.

IsabelleRinging · 02/02/2013 21:23

Ah yes melon! I can see it now. Not a million miles away from cucumber. Thanks coffee

MrsSchadenfreude · 02/02/2013 21:36

Un Jardin Apres Le Mousson makes me sneeze uncontrollably.

coffeeinbed · 02/02/2013 21:38

Worst offender of this kind is Jo Malone Vanille Anise - indescribable ozonic melon vanilla.

coffeeinbed · 02/02/2013 21:39

un
sorry.
Wine

Haberdashery · 02/02/2013 21:42

Allotment is a pretty good smell, actually. I would probably buy that in a bottle (Black March isn't far off).

coffeeinbed · 02/02/2013 21:45

Have you tried Calamus Haber?
iris roots in the soil during rain.

Fuzzybirds · 02/02/2013 21:58

Melon and cucumber don't do it for me either. Love the sound of Tomato and Dirt, I grew a lot of cherry toms last year and love the smell of the stalks.

Niminypiminy, I think we must like the same sorts of smells. Love both Samsara and Shalimar. I tried Shalimar Initial L'Eau recently and was unimpressed though....

AwkwardSquad · 02/02/2013 22:01

I've just checked and it looks like Demeter is still in operation. Hmmmm. Tempted. I can't grow tomatoes (blight, always blight) but I can smell of freshly crushed tomato leaves!

Mixed reviews for Dirt, sounds as tho they have changed the formulation.

Haberdashery · 02/02/2013 22:07

I would love another bottle of Tomato, actually. It was always the best one. Did any of you other tomato lovers like the perfume in the green packaging that Mac brought out in the late nineties or early 2000s? I bloody loved that perfume and they discontinued it and I have actually emailed them to beg them to bring it out again or get me a bottle of the old stuff and they have always declined. God, that was fabulous perfume. It was the smell of a hot greenhouse full of grape vines and tomato plants. Fabulous stuff.

Soil and rain sound fab, coffee, but am wary of iris which I generally dislike intensely.

niminypiminy · 02/02/2013 22:08

Fuzzybirds Smile great to have another Samsara fan around - so many people loathe it.

I love the smell of tomato leaves. There's a brand of soap - can't remember the name, they sell it in the Cambridge Botanical Garden shop, which is where I saw it - that has all kinds of gardeny smells. There's definitely one which smells of tomato leaves. Yummy!
