Part 2 is nearly full!

Dabbed on some Farnesiana to celebrate International Women's Day.
Une fleur de cassie and Mimosa pour moi strong contenders too.
We have a bunch of mimosas on the table so referencing is easy.

FrugalFashionista · 08/03/2013 17:46

Oh and if you want to get rid of an intolerable perfume on your skin, use makeup remover (wipes work for me, but to bring in the big guns use the stuff you use to remove waterproof mascara).
Bye bye Visa

Flora upgrade to Perfumista level 4 for finding and liking Thvndra. You have left the amateur leagues Grin

CointreauVersial · 08/03/2013 17:48

Frugal, there was a bottle of Molecule 01 being passed around at the workshop, and the lady running it had lots of stories about its magical effects.

florascotia · 08/03/2013 18:19

Sorry if this comes up as a duplicate message, but the one I sent a few minutes ago has disappeared.

I was trying to say, Frugal thank you for your kind words. I love Thundra and I don't care what others say about it.

But, at the opposite end of the spectrum, I also really like Farnesiana. And real mimosa is infinitely better!!
However, up here in the frozen north, spring and mimosa seem a very long, long way away...

Calvin Klein Euphoria is my current daily perfume of choice. I don't have an evening one atm though, having trouble finding something I like (so many perfumes are floral and they just don't suit me).

IsabelleRinging · 08/03/2013 21:58

Andro, I used to wear Euphoria, I would say it is equally suitable for evenings, I especially used to enjoy it on summer evenings, and winter days. It has some similarites with Angel I think, you might enjoy this for evenings as it is a bit more daring than Euphoria, or Tom Ford Black Orchid which I also find to be in the same family and more of an evening scent than Euphoria. These are all sweet and heady and slightly chocolatey.

I received my bottle of Carnal Flower at last yesterday and I really do like it, although the weather feels too cool yet to wear it, it very much evokes a warm summer night feeling for me. Why is it tough that I can only smell it when I spray it on clothes or paper, as soon as it dries on my wrist I can't smell it (although dh confirms it is there) but on my scarf it has monster silage!?!?!?

Fuzzybirds · 08/03/2013 22:02

Evening all!

I'm sorely tempted to buy a bottle of Montaigne now....
Frugal I've been wearing Visa as well today, pleasant enough but mostly sweet, peachy fruit. I thought I was missing something as there's supposed to be leather but I can't smell it myself. I was in the car earlier and got a waft of Coco Mademoiselle- assumed it was left over on my coat sleeve from the last time I wore it but maybe it was Visa.

Cointreau I'm very jealous of your workshop experience, I think that has to go on my birthday wishlist!

Andro I've not yet tried Euphoria, I'm sure someone will be along with some good suggestions soon.

Off to look up Thundra....

Andro · 08/03/2013 22:03

IsabelleRinging - thank you for the suggestions, I will try them Thanks

CointreauVersial · 08/03/2013 22:04

Fuzzy, if you are in the south-east let me know, and I'll PM you details of the place I went to.

kiwigirl42 · 09/03/2013 00:14

perfume workshop sounds great fun. thanks for ideas about other Caron's to try.

Ladame · 09/03/2013 09:33

My Coromandel has arrived!!!! Just trying it now, the first stage seems a little Youth Dew, Coca Cola - ish Smile - all good, all good so far. Had to put up with Mr Ladame being baffled as to why:

  1. I would order a perfume I've never even smelled before;
  2. I'm so excited about it, and ...
  3. Haven't I already got some perfume?
I started to explain, but it's just too hard for him to understand, he's gone off to make some tea, shaking his head ....
kiwigirl42 · 09/03/2013 12:26

glad you are enjoying exploring Coromandel Ladame

I ordered a little decant of YSL Cinema off ebay and have tried it this morning. I really like it and its strangely similar to Montaigne except the Cinema is worn, pale cotton and the Montaigne is dark, opulant, deepest velvet.

Ladame · 09/03/2013 12:46

Sad still very Youth Dew. Not that keen on Youth Dew, my Nan used to wear it to Bingo and she had one of the fox fur thingies that had it's tail in it's mouth and glass eyes, and it always smelt of Youth Dew (and -bizarrely- Fox's Glacier Mints...) am so disappointed.

FrugalFashionista · 09/03/2013 13:06

Kiwi Cinema is one of my staples too. Actually a great spring scent, a diaphanous almondy amber. I wear it quite often when out and about and have a full bottle (let me know if you need a top-up). One of good mainstream buys if you wear sweet scents well but need some lightness.

Loving the fox Ladame (but yes, I too have some musty furcoat issues). Oh and your DH doesn't want to meet me Grin (My DH has given up. I appease him with the occasional sample/ bottle thrown his way. He's quite smug about wearing Tauer and boutique Dior and Tom Ford PBs - he likes beautiful and unique things but would wear Hugo Boss if left to his own devices...)

A laid-back mellow, sunny day today. Pear+Olive from Slumberhouse fits the mood perfectly.

CointreauVersial · 09/03/2013 15:21

Thanks to the generous Florascotia (Thanks Thanks ) my SOTD is Cabochard. Wow, very nice, quite "retro"; it instantly conjured up a picture of a tall, coolly-elegant brunette in a 1970s trouser suit, a floppy hat and a cigarette. Wood and leather, fairly masculine, and not a modern scent at all, but definitely one I can see myself wearing again.

My samples from First in Fragrance also showed up; I'm slightly regretful that at the last minute I deleted the sample of Mona di Orio Oud from my order, but as it cost €12 for 2ml, I decided I should probably pace myself.

Fuzzybirds · 09/03/2013 15:36

Cointreau thank you, I'm in the west though. Will have a google and see if there's anything similar around here.

I decided against Montaigne for now and instead have ordered a bottle of Bal a Versailles...wouldn't normally order blind but I had a bit of cash in my Paypal account and I think I deserve to treat myself a little for Mother's Day. Just under £17 for 50ml through online beauty buys on ebay- they have lots of great perfumes at cheap prices so will report back on the service.

Tried a spray of Bobbi Brown Beach whilst in HoF today, a lovely summer holiday scent for a cold wet day. It smells like high end suntan lotion and warm skin, I don't have anything like this in my collection

My DH has been sucked in a bit too- he has four bottles on the go. He bought a full bottle of Guerlain's L'Eau Boisee last week, a direct result of hanging round the Guerlain counter with me. It is gorgeous on him though Grin

Ladame · 09/03/2013 16:27

It's getting better!!! (bear with me, I get so excited about this stuff!) Blush it's now like a dark chocolate strawberry cream eaten whilst wearing a patchouli-impregnated cheesecloth shirt from the seventies, in the kitchen with a sponge cake browning in the oven! How do they DO this? Get so many lovely scents in one liquid. Is this the drydown? I didn't know any of these terms before I read these threads lol.

Haberdashery · 09/03/2013 18:05

I started to explain, but it's just too hard for him to understand, he's gone off to make some tea, shaking his head ....

LOL!

Cointreau, have you tried Knize Ten? Can you smell the thing in Cabochard that's identical? What is it?

Haberdashery · 09/03/2013 18:06

Love your description, btw, Ladame!

IsabelleRinging · 09/03/2013 19:54

I am sooo Envy of your bottle of Coromandel Ladame, my sample is nearly empty Sad, will have to get another one.

My DH can't get his head round the collecting thing either, he is lusting after a bottle of Tuscan leather though which I introduced him to, I even caught him searching for it on Fragrantica on my laptop Grin.

CointreauVersial · 09/03/2013 19:58

Ladame, Coromandel is definitely a "grower" and gets nicer and nicer as the hours pass.

Haberdashery - yes, I have tried Knize 10 and disliked it massively. Waaaaay too much rubber.

I had a little squirt of Chanel No 19 today in Boots; I haven't tried it in years due to negative associations with someone I didn't like very much. But it's such a gorgeous fragrance, beautiful....I may have to let bygones be bygones (well, it was 25 years ago).Grin

garlicbrain · 09/03/2013 22:05

I do not know what I'm doing with this perfumista stuff - I'm not even partially fledged! (More of a speck in a perfumed egg

garlicbrain · 09/03/2013 22:44

"Rose de Mai and Jasmin de Grasse enhance its floral bouquet whilst oriental notes add precious opulence to the fragrance."

Oh, dear. Daffodils :: Jasmine? Well, they're both spring flowers. I seem to have confused rose de mai (whatever that is) with lily and hay with 'precious opulence'. Score: 0.5 out of ten.

Is it okay to do this on your expert thread? I shall cease & desist if not!

CointreauVersial · 10/03/2013 00:33

Garlic, trust me, I'm no expert! It's lovely to hear what everyone is trying.

auldspinster · 10/03/2013 01:15

I love Cabochard too - have you tried Bandit? Take the 70's lady and put her in a skintight leather jumpsuit. One of my favourites is Bulgari Black, am keen to try Dzing as they're supposed to be close cousins but Space NK don't carry L'Artisan anymore.
