Has anyone tried Fleur Nocturne by Isabey, it gets amazing reviews?

CointreauVersial · 06/02/2013 13:07

Not tried that one, Isabelle.

My Tauer samples arrived yesterday, so I'm trying Orange Star today. Not what I expected! I did get a brief citrus blast at the biginning, but it quickly settled into quite a strong white floral smell (orange blossom, I presume), which I really didn't like much. Five hours on it is definitely improving (I'm getting the warmer basenotes now), but I'm not quite feeling the love.

Four more to try....!

IsabelleRinging · 06/02/2013 13:43

I am trying Nuit Etoilee from Annick Goutal today. This is the second time I have tried it, I really would like to fall in love with it so I have an excuse to buy a bottle as it is a deep blue and gorgeous and would look fab on my dressing table, but it's just not happening. It is a really unusual fragrance, there is little lemon in the opening, then lots of fresh mint and pine. It smells cold and sparkly at first. Then the mint dries a bit and there is definitely a pine forest smell to. It is quite refreshing and very unisex. I sprayed it first thing this morning, and by now, early afternoon there is a nice soft woody scent left behind, it is a fresh woody though, like pine, not creamy wood like sandalwood. This one isn't for me, but if you like fresh unusual scents this is worth trying. It is well done and I haven't smelt anything quite like it before, it's quite mystical!

Fuzzybirds · 06/02/2013 16:16

I've not tried Fleur Nocturne either. I've been very restrained in not ordering more samples and trying to use what I've got as I spent my perfume budget (and then some) last month. Next time, I think I'll order some Tauer samples, or maybe the Histoires De Parfums sample set

I've been reading the Turin/Sanchez A-Z Perfume Guide, very interesting and quite cheap from Amazon at the mo. The 'to try' list has reached massive proportions now though Grin

Being a bit boring and wearing Flowerbomb today, but had to find something not too overwhelming for going to soft play!

shoeprincess2 · 06/02/2013 16:21

Fuzzybirds- me too. I am using up some of my samples before ordering any more- I have a wish list of about 15 at the minute, so will probably order 5 a month starting next month. Have fun at soft play.

We may or may not have met before... (shh)
I'm a hardcore fumehead who loves Tauers and tries everything - including Heat by Beyoncé. Wink

Nuit etoilee underwhelmed me too (named after my favorite van Gogh, but so wan and pale - where are the angry, psychotic comets?). Orange Star is tricky on me, bordering on unwearable.

Today I'm wearing Oud Ispahan. This is Portrait of a Lady taken one step further - a pungent rose oud with ultraviolet sillage. I have a 7,5 ml mini and it will last a long time - very strong stuff.

Perfume books can be really great. Without them, I wouldn't have found the really great stuff. Blogs are a good source of info as well - I've really enjoyed Perfume Shrine's recent post on fruity florals.

IsabelleRinging · 06/02/2013 16:55

I haven't ordered many samples yet, prefer to get them free if I can, rather spend my money on whole bottle of a perfume I love- samples seem cheap but they really add up!! I am gong to order Fleur Nocturne, Carnal Flower and maybe a couple of the Villoresi ones from Les Senteurs, maybe Teint de Neige or Donna or Alamut? (Anyone tried these?)

grotbagz · 06/02/2013 17:02

not sure if anyones said this but the mac perfume in turquoise is amazing but all of them are pretty nice - they've now stopped doing it in all the stores and only sell it in the flagship i think, gutting - whenever i wore it id always get complimented on it, so if you're ever around the mac store id definitely recommend trying it!

ProFumo · 06/02/2013 17:02

Oh and a question for all - what are your go-to perfumes for office/playgroup/meeting elderly relatives?
I'm afraid I'm not as discreet as I should be (wore Oud Ispahan to work today Blush), but gentle irises and classic colognes work well at work.

I found a sample set from Olfactive Studio the other day and their Lumiere Blanche struck me as very office appropriate too.

shoeprincess2 · 06/02/2013 17:05

Welcome to our thread Wink

office or everyday wear: Cristalle, Eau de Cartier, Jovan White musk, Cabotine.

They won't bother anyone but they all smell really good.

grotbagz · 06/02/2013 17:07

profumo - if I'm ever at a family occasion/going to a meeting etc i always use a scent like chanel coco mademoiselle or chance - or something similar my perfume shelf is like an apothecary, i prefer the fresher fragrances but for some reason i think these sort of ones give off a better vibe in that sort of situation - maybe I'm mad!

shoeprincess2 · 06/02/2013 17:07

Isabelle*- Teint de Neige is gorgeous. You must get a sample. Very, very powdery but so opulent.

IsabelleRinging · 06/02/2013 17:08

Welcome back? ProFumo Grin.

My go to for winter is Chanel Allure, but think it might change to Iris Nobile in the future, and in summer it is Cristalle eau Vert for work. I like to try shock the elderly rellies though, so would wear whatever I fancied when visiting Wink

YouOldSlag · 06/02/2013 17:09

Agrre that fresh scents are better for mingling in the daytime. The ones I wear (listed above^^) are all green notes.

IsabelleRinging · 06/02/2013 17:11

Will definitely try it shoe on your recommendation, opulent is what I like!

niminypiminy · 06/02/2013 17:14

I have a sample of Teint de Neige but detest it -- if anybody would like it (swap for something?) do PM me.

Today I'm wearing L'Eau d'Hiver, which would be a very good elderly relative/office/playgroup choice. Warm and comforting (I like the honied-ness of it) and long-lasting but very, very discreet.

Tomorrow will be Bois des Iles, courtesy of of CointreauVersial !

ProFumo · 06/02/2013 17:30

Anyone who likes Teint de Neige: at least in my head, TdN, Rose d'Hollande by Mona di Orio and Cinabre by Maria Candida Gentile are a blockbusting girl gang - old school diva power taken to the max, think Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn and Sophia Loren as Disney princesses. Powder puffs as nuclear warheads? Grin

Oh and did I mention - we have TdN-scented baby wipes!

niminypiminy · 06/02/2013 17:33

TdN baby wipes ShockShock!

ProFumo · 06/02/2013 17:35

I know... Will you call social services? Grin

shoeprincess2 · 06/02/2013 17:36

Oh my goodness. Too much!! My little boy with a TdN scented bottom. That would be fantastic Smile. Yes, TdN makes me feel like a 1950s powerhouse (minus styled hair and red lipstick). But I do like all the big hitters- L'air du desert marocain, Loretta etc. My perfumes need to shout, not whisper.

Welcome back, ProFumo! Lovely to see you.

cardoon · 06/02/2013 18:03

Have PM'd you niminy

Fuzzybirds · 06/02/2013 18:35

Hi ProFumo, nice to 'meet' you Smile

I quite like comforting ambery/ vanilla type scents for the purposes of toddler groups etc. I suppose I imagine them as cuddly, approachable scents- L'Artisan's Ambre Extreme or Shalimar. In my 20s I used to wear Gucci Envy for work, I do wish they'd bring it back!

YouOldSlag · 06/02/2013 18:42

LOVE Gucci Envy. Utter madness to end it. There is and was nothing remotely like it.
