In what universe is this value for money?

I can't really deal with this kind of thing. I like good clothes, and believe in paying a little extra for quality and good craftsmanship (and decent company ethics) but this takes the cake. Can anyone please explain to me how one might condone the price of this thing?

Disclaimer: I like many designer items, particularly Vanessa Bruno, Isabel Marant, etc. But I try to remain sensible, IYSWIM?

Ha! It's worth more than my car! It's not even particularly attractive.
How the other half live eh?

ToastedTeacakes · 09/01/2013 22:57

But I'm sure if I could afford to throw this kind of money around I would bypass this kind of crap. I would feel duped.

Check out this little bargain

HarrietSchulenberg · 09/01/2013 22:58

Ooh, imagine if you mixed it up with a hot wash by mistake. Actually, I wouldn't dare ever wash it. Or wear it.

LakeFlyPie · 09/01/2013 23:03

That looks pretty horrid really and the 3k jacket Shock

Costs more than your car Het, not worth I'd say.

thenightsky · 09/01/2013 23:05

That shrunken biker jacket is vile.

ToastedTeacakes · 09/01/2013 23:08

That shrunken biker jacket would not flatter my high set hips.

apparently the cashmere monster is sold out in large (so perhaps someone is actually buying this stuff)

ToastedTeacakes · 09/01/2013 23:33

I was complaining about Boden prices earlier. I will just shut up now.

This dress is pretty grim too, I can't imagine a body shape it would flatter.

BlissfullyIgnorant · 09/01/2013 23:38

I had to go make coffee just so I could take a mouthful and spit it out in shock/horror/disgust.

ToastedTeacakes · 09/01/2013 23:40

I die! is the front bulge a handy cover up for when a bit of bloating occurs? It reminds me of something medical, like a hernia/prolapse/growth.

again - sizes in that dress are sold out (!!). It would set off my saddlebags wonderfully.

dexter73 · 10/01/2013 08:07

I feel the same way about expensive handbags. Cannot for the life of me see why someone would would spend hundreds/thousands on one. It's just a bag!

DolomitesDonkey · 10/01/2013 08:55

The Elder Statesman?

The Emporer's New Clothes more like.

HyvaPaiva · 10/01/2013 09:02

Ooh! This beauty has 50% off. Now it's only five grand Hmm Grin

Eliza22 · 10/01/2013 09:15

Ludicrous and a bit disgusting, considering the times were living in/through financially.

Curlysueuk · 10/01/2013 09:16

I would be able to buy a wardrobe for that........ and it would be full of clothes!

SilentSplendidSun · 10/01/2013 09:21

Aaah, that's just taking the piss, isnt it? And that biker jacket... My eyes, my eyes!!

I actually knew someone who shopped at Net-a-pratter. I was well impressed, like I'd met royalty or something...

ifancyashandy · 10/01/2013 09:24

I like the Bottega Bustle dress! And I'd wear it!

MarshaBrady · 10/01/2013 09:24

Wow. And it's just so beige and bleurgh.

nagynolonger · 10/01/2013 09:34

Do people just buy that stuff through the post?

I'd want a proper fitting (with tea & bics) for that price.

When would anyone wear that feather thing!

DolomitesDonkey · 10/01/2013 09:49

I would wear the Marc Jacobs and I'd do a Bjork and carry around a dozen free-range (natch!) eggs and just squat in the street and lay eggs. If you're going to wear that you'd want the attention. Grin

RudolphiaRedNose · 10/01/2013 09:56

I love mindblowingly expensive bottega veneta dresses - they are always so beautiful. I would wear that one too! (In a parallel universe obv.) I like browsing pret though, and magazines, and getting ideas for things to make or try (much) cheaper versions of.

I think some people who have ridiculous amounts of money just scale up what they pay for things. So a 2k dress or whatever is just a dress, because it makes no dent in their finances. And/or they get into a mindset where it's important to them to have really expensive stuff. Look at all those daft super-expensive things like the diamond nail varnish or tree baubles that cost thousands. No one needs them or thinks they are value for money but someone probably buys them because they are expensive.

I actually don't have a problem with that, in economic terms it's better for the stinking rich to spend their dough on overpriced stuff so that their money passes on to everyone else, than for them to keep it in offshore accounts avoiding tax.
