In what universe is this value for money?

I can't really deal with this kind of thing. I like good clothes, and believe in paying a little extra for quality and good craftsmanship (and decent company ethics) but this takes the cake. Can anyone please explain to me how one might condone the price of this thing?

Disclaimer: I like many designer items, particularly Vanessa Bruno, Isabel Marant, etc. But I try to remain sensible, IYSWIM?

I order from NaP (not the really mind-blowingly expensive stuff) but the experience is as good if not better than actual shops.

A courier brings a prettily wrapped box and you get to try it at home, no crowds, no shop assistants, bliss. Then they come and get it if you don't want to keep it.

I like that these things exist, but that cardigan reminds me of something from my teenage years, a bad cardigan.

babySophieRose · 10/01/2013 10:05

It is a joke

AmberNectarine · 10/01/2013 10:28

Oh yes, I love a bit of NaP and do shop there quite a bit (though I do prefer real life shopping and the swinging of a cardboard carrier), but as with any retail emporium there are some items that make you wonder whether they were designed by blind, mentally-subnormal crack addicts. The difference being on NaP they are about 12 times as expensive as they would be elsewhere.

MarshaBrady · 10/01/2013 10:59

Oh yep love the bags. Takes a while to kick them out (Liberty, HN) and the boxes. Still have a Lanvin one somewhere as feels mean to discard, hopeless.

Some of the things are bonkers aren't they. Any end of sale clearance things, say Cocosa, with lots of designer things that are quite bonkers.

ToastedTeacakes · 10/01/2013 11:38

I think what annoys me the most isn't the potential customers of such pieces, it's the designers audacity. It's almost taking the piss, and someone HAS to be laughing.

I don't mind the occasional netaporter spurge myself (couple of times per year, and well in the £100-£300 range) but there's a point where the pursuit of luxury crosses over into comedy (Emperors New Clothes)....it's really bizarre to me.

And there I was yesterday, grumbling about a cotton cardi at Boden going for £79 (WTF) and Isabel Marant's prices hiking up every season, whilst she still prattles on in interviews about her desire to create clothes for the average girl who dislikes fuss, expense, etc.....or something to that description.

Ooh that McQ feather dress reminds me of those slightly dodgy feather coats we used to wear to dodgy night clubs in the 90's!

Paintyourbox · 10/01/2013 11:53

Disclaimer- I was a teenager at the time!

AmberNectarine · 10/01/2013 11:53

Isabel Marant uses more frills, flowers and furbelows then most. I actually really dislike most of her stuff apart from the footwear and occasional coat. Now her other half, he makes some nice bags.

MarshaBrady · 10/01/2013 11:56

She's gone a bit frou frou or cowboy-tastic.

Who's her husband?!

I notice that new labels on NaP often jump in with stonkingly high prices. As if we'll automatically think price = luxury, eg op. Need to put the work in people, years of it.

MarshaBrady · 10/01/2013 11:58

I could look that up really.

Also wonder how much people price for the sales. The more everyone waits for the discounts the higher the original price to make the discount seem good.

AmberNectarine · 10/01/2013 12:01

Jerome Dreyfuss Marsha, makes beautiful bags like these

ToastedTeacakes · 10/01/2013 12:02

Her husband is Jerome Dreyfuss.

Agree about the cowboytastic, but do have penchant for slight soupçon of frou frou ;)

Ah I see, had no idea they were together. Good one.

I'm sure I'll find something Marant that catches my eye at some point. One of the simpler things probably.

Dawndonna · 10/01/2013 12:21

I too had a jacket similar to the feather dress. In 1976.

threesypeesy · 10/01/2013 13:35

HyvaPaiva · 10/01/2013 18:20
