Why do NEXT have to sell Skinny Jeans for little girls in their childrenswear department? Do children as young as four and five really clothing labelled skinny jeans?

OP posts:

This is a great thread. Don't buy bell bottoms for your feeble kids folks, they won't be able to lift their legs up! Oh no, wait! It's just the name of he style of trouser...

BoysAreLikeDogs · 06/01/2013 16:03

Ha yes

Platform shoes will need a risk assessment for use of ladder

BoysAreLikeDogs · 06/01/2013 16:04

Cheesecloth will need level 2 food handling cert

BoysAreLikeDogs · 06/01/2013 16:05

Omg TANK TOP

difficultpickle · 06/01/2013 16:06

Skinny just means they are straight legged and narrow jeans. Ideal for my straight legged and narrow ds. I'm happy to be able to buy jeans that aren't baggy legged. I don't see it as a fat/thin issue at all.

I wear boot cut jeans and, being a bit radical, I don't always wear them with boots Grin

GwendolineMaryLacey · 06/01/2013 16:07

Shit. Tank top is really going to cause issues! Well spotter BALD.

InNeedOfBrandy · 06/01/2013 16:08

I love skinny jeans for my dd, she's so thin and tall and I can buy the 2 years up size adjust at waist and they fit.

My ds also looks good in his skinnys and high tops

Op why have you posted this now and not 5 years ago? Skinny jeans in next or any shop for that matter are not a new thing Confused

ginhag · 06/01/2013 16:08

Combat trousers. Dangerous.

I like them - my dd has a couple of pairs (not from Next).
Dd is of very slender build and skinnies are a good fit for her.
They are just like thick leggings. Nice to tuck into boots and under long tops in the winter.
Don't see the problem.

merlottits · 06/01/2013 16:12

It could be worse. They could be selling cigarette trousers. Oh, sorry they aren't the type that give you lung cancer it's just the style.

wewereherefirst · 06/01/2013 16:13

OP, have you been hidden from the world?! Skinny jeans have been around for children for years.

Skinny jeans fit my skinny 6 y/o (who is in 9-10 for length).

Grip mebbe?

pictish · 06/01/2013 16:15

I see we have moved on! Grin

I can see the OP's point regarding them being called skinnies I suppose. Kids are horrid, and will find anything to use as ammunition. I suspect most of you know that, but are still smarting from the initial swipe. Wink

kitsmummy · 06/01/2013 16:16

omg, what a non-issue. Op, calm down dear.

Chandon · 06/01/2013 16:20

OP, I never thought it had to do with being skinny, but as others have said, it is the STYLE of the jeans, the CUT, and not a reference to the size of the wearer. I am sure you could explain that to your DD?

My DS gets teased for being "skinny", I am not sure kids see being skinny as something to aspire to? they want to be " normal" or " average" afaik. Despite this, he is happy to wear skinny jeans as they don't fall down, like normal trousers.

I can only imagine a child being upset by the Skinny Jeans label, if the parent is upset. But the problem lies not with Next, but with the school. Ask a copy of their anti bullying policy to start with. Do not put up with kids making your DD feel bad.

fuckadoodlepoopoo · 06/01/2013 16:21

Skinny jeans are the only ones that fit my dc and are still baggy!

NuzzleandScratch · 06/01/2013 16:21

Don't buy your children carrot cut trousers, they might think they're carrots!

flowerytaleofNewYork · 06/01/2013 16:33

Let's hope the skinny jeans weren't made of moleskin...

PuppyMonkey · 06/01/2013 16:35

What about TIGHTS? I don't think we should allow them either. Tight means squiffy and mean Grin

meditrina · 06/01/2013 16:43

Perhaps they should relabel them cigarette pants?

Ilisten2theradio · 06/01/2013 17:06

Skinny jeans = skinny legs and normal waist and bum in Next as far as I can see.
Witness DS ( V skinny beanpole absolutely no bum!) trying on skinny jeans in next. "Look mum you could fit a baby in here " as he holds out the waist to show me the gap, having done them up!

Actually that is not quite true as we did find some that were not quite so ruched on the waist once we had pulled them in - but the skinnyness of the test of the jean other than the leg did vary a lot.

flowerytaleofNewYork · 06/01/2013 17:23

Should you only be allowed to wear PANTS after having run a marathon?

lljkk · 06/01/2013 17:36

Little kids are usually skinny and have no curves. They need a snug fit to be warm. It's us adults who shouldn't sport skinnies most the time.

Isn't it lovely we're all different & don't all need the same things? Some are stout & some are fit, some are soft or short or tall. DD was/is scrawny & has trouble finding small enough waists, thank goodness for skinnies.

StateofConfusion · 06/01/2013 17:39

No other style of jeans fit my Dd without her looking a mess and like she's wearning someone elses too big clothes.

StateofConfusion · 06/01/2013 17:40

Oh she's 4yo.
