Why do NEXT have to sell Skinny Jeans for little girls in their childrenswear department? Do children as young as four and five really clothing labelled skinny jeans?

As adults we understand the difference re. skinny jeans designed for all shapes and sizes but young children do not. Flower please do not assume the issue re my DD.

OP

you need to get out more

BadDog · 06/01/2013 12:24

if oyur daughter is over weight and unhappy I would be turning my attention to helping her control her eating, not worrying about Next jeans

Methe · 06/01/2013 12:25

^ what she said.

sweetkitty · 06/01/2013 12:25

I have to buy skinny jeans for my 3 DDs as they are very skinny, normal jeans are far too baggy. I need elasticacted waists as well.

Even leggings are a nightmare as to get the correct length they are far too baggy at the waist.

DD1 has said a few things now about being the skinniest in her class and I remember a few hurtful comments made to me about being too skinny (oh the irony now).

Would narrow fit be better

AngelsWithSilverWings · 06/01/2013 12:26

My kids can only wear skinny jeans! They are the only ones that fit.

DS is a skinny 7 year old but needs age 9 jeans for the length. All of his jeans have the adjustable waist pulled in as far as possible and anything other than than skinny jeans look ridiculous!

DD age 4 is not tall but she is so slight that age 4 skirts and trousers fall off of her but age 3 are too short. She has to wear a dress to school because they don't do a school skirt with a small enough waist.

BadDog · 06/01/2013 12:27

yes - two skinny boys where skinny too small

one rugby player - skinny no good

ClaimedByMe · 06/01/2013 12:29

My dd is not the skinniest but loves her skinny jeans, I think she only owns skinny jeans now, she does not think she needs to be skinny to wear skinny jeans and as a poster pointed out above they sit great with boots and dont trail the ground!

FrustratedSycamoreIsNesting · 06/01/2013 12:29

OP you're over thinking it.

Skinny jeans= tight fitting.

Both my dds (4+7) wear skinny fit jeans. IME leggings get misshapen quickly, skinnys don't. And look great with floaty tops and boots.

Dd also had a pair of skinnys in newborn size. (Very cute, but a nightmare to get on and off a tiny baby)

AngelsWithSilverWings · 06/01/2013 12:29

Sweetkitty - my DD can never wear leggings either .Not found a pair yet that are long enough and stay up! She lives in dresses and always has her tights hanging around her knees.

CandyCrush · 06/01/2013 12:30

My dd is "skinny". Next skinny jeans are NOT cut for skinny kids. They are actually really big on the bum IME.

Also can't you get kids "plus size" skinny jeans at next too?

Five4Three2One · 06/01/2013 12:32

Thanks for the insults. BadDog you need to follow your own advice. Pathetic! Carry on bitching, but don't do it for my benefit as I'm not coming back for more of this! My DD is a little bit overweight due to medical reasons but carry on with your assumptions.

Five4 - surely if you explain to your DD that in this particular instance "skinny" doesn't mean very thin, but a tight fit - then you've solved the problem!
If a 4 or 5 year old knows that skinny can mean very thin, then they'll be perfectly capable of understanding that when it is the name of a pair of trousers, it means tight fit.
Neither of my children had a clue at 4 or 5 what their clothes were called, or even where they came from!
Body dysmorphia is far more deep rooted than just the names given to trousers.

scottishmummy · 06/01/2013 12:33

i dont think it's a problem,looks nice with a dress or top
skinny Jean is cut of jean leg slim leg, same as banana jeans is the cut and fit

lauriedriver · 06/01/2013 12:42

Sorry to hijack your post & I haven't been on mumsnet for long but I find it scary the way some of you seem to come on here just to insult/critiscise other posters.

keyboard ninjas or what

LadybirdsAreFab · 06/01/2013 12:44

Candy, my DD has the same problem. I have given up and they went to the charity shop.

Sirzy · 06/01/2013 12:50

Then you need to look at it with her and help her understand rather than getting angry with a retailer for selling a product.

DS is very slim so skinny fit jeans fit him much better than others. It's simply a style of jean.

DonaAna · 06/01/2013 12:51

My almost 5-y-o is tall and long-limbed bean pole too (in the 95st height percentile for here age). H&M have been doing skinny jeans for years and those are the only ones that really fit her well. Any other style falls down and exposes her butt - I find that slightly more risqué Grin

StinkyWicket · 06/01/2013 13:34

I wear skinny jeans and I'm a size 16! My 14 month old DS also wears them. I understand your daughter may be feeling a bit sensitive about it, but in this case I think it's up to you to explain it is the style of the jeans, not a description of the person in them.

BadDog · 06/01/2013 13:36

lol at take own advice!

BoysAreLikeDogs · 06/01/2013 13:40

I don't think any feathers are ruffled here, we are just sayin' skinny is the style not the person wearing

and, as you've found out, drip feeding info can irritate folk on here

MaureenShit · 06/01/2013 13:40

I LOVE when the poster gets all arsey.

scottishmummy · 06/01/2013 13:50

this is tame,no deletions
no mnhq mind yerselves
no ninjas only burds with iPad

flowerytaleofNewYork · 06/01/2013 15:37

No, I think I'm still comfortable assuming that if your DD is being teased about her weight it's because there are some unpleasant children in her class, not because Next use 'skinny' in their jeans labelling.....

No one has insulted you at all, seriously!

dexter73 · 06/01/2013 15:40

I bet they sell 'chunky' knitwear too Hmm
