DH and I are going away for an expenses paid fancy weekend in London next week, staying at the Four Seasons Hotel in Park Lane. On Saturday evening, we're having dinner in the hotel with others from DH's company and his CEO and the dress code is 'Lounge Suit' What does that mean????? and what should I wear???????

isn't lounge suit (for men) a standared suit and tie, so for ladies, just smart clothes but not evening-ey???

welshboris · 13/04/2006 20:23

70s polyester lounge suit, leopard skin accessories

Man- open neck polyester shirt, medallion

Hairy chest optional, for both of you

Northerner · 13/04/2006 20:24

lounge suit is normal suit, shirt and tie as oposed to black tie.

I would wear smart wrap dress and heels or pencil skirt and blouse. It's above smart casual but not cocktail IYKWIM!

LIZS · 13/04/2006 20:27

Slightly formal or dressy but not ott iyswim

busywizzy · 13/04/2006 20:28

So it's not a dressy up black dress then?

LIZS · 13/04/2006 20:29

No !

busywizzy · 13/04/2006 20:30

Oh dear, better have another look at what I've got to wear!!!!!

According to the British Embassy (where I work) if you take 'Lounge Suit' to be business suit (light colours acceptable) with a tie (not black), the the women are expected to wear smart dresses, linen or silk suits in summer or woollen or velvet in the winter. This is in a tropical country so you might want to adapt it a little - don't know why they mention winter though, that means about 25 degrees here!

cupcakes · 13/04/2006 20:37

online thesaurus:
lounge suit - a business suit consisting of a matching jacket and skirt or trousers

Northerner · 13/04/2006 20:37

Mind you, Four Seasons is very chic..... Do you know where you are dining?

PrincessPeaHead · 13/04/2006 20:40

completely disagree with LIZS I'm afraid. Dinner in the four seasons is a dress up affair. I would go for a cocktail dress. Lounge suits in this context means "not black tie" - ie it is a pretty formal dinner but they don't want the men in dinner jackets.

I would definately dress up (in a discreet expensive looking way).

Enjoy the four seasons btw, I've stayed there several times and it is superb.

crunchie · 13/04/2006 20:43

I would wear a cocktail type dress, nota ball dress IYKWIM.

If I thought about my wardrobe, and what I woudl wear, it would be a monsoon ish floaty bias number, sort of like a summer wedding dress. Not a full sticky outy dress though :) I wouldn't wear a skirt and shirt - too day time. IMHO I prefer to be over dressed rather than underdressed, it shows respect, rather than laziness/contempt.

tuppenceworth · 13/04/2006 20:43

In posh speak a 'lounge coat' is a dressing gown, so maybe a 'lounge suit' would be your jim-jams?? :)

busywizzy · 13/04/2006 20:43

We're eating in the hotel which is why I thought it might be a bit dressy. I think we're eating in a private room within the Lanes Restuarant - which sounds a bit posh to me!!!

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 13/04/2006 20:44

definitely cocktail dress - agree that the Lounge Suit tag in this situation means Not Black Tie.

crunchie · 13/04/2006 20:44

dressy up black dress is perfect, think Audrey hepburn in breakfast at Tiffanys :)

PPH is right, dressy, not ball dress

PrincessPeaHead · 13/04/2006 20:45

no no no no

you can tell women in from the provinces for a big night out in london because they dress as if they are going to a wedding. cringeworthy.

you need something sharp, sexy, eveningy. wrap dress and heels, beautifully cut top, evening trousers and heels, black is good, floaty pink chiffon is bad

busywizzy · 13/04/2006 20:46

I've got a black strappy dress cut on the bias so it's fitted up top then more flarey from the hips. It's sort of velvet across the chest then satin-like from there downwards. It's mid calf length and I thought with black strappy sandals - what does that sound like

OP posts:
PrincessPeaHead · 13/04/2006 20:46

oooh sorry crunchie that came across as rather rude. you know what I mean!

PrincessPeaHead · 13/04/2006 20:46

perfect.

good jewellery and makeup

crunchie · 13/04/2006 20:47

OK OK OK you are telling me I am from the provinces :o All I meant was Last time I did the savoy I did a floaty BLACK monsoon number, I was too fat for killer cocktail dress. I didn't mean pink and fluffy :)

crunchie · 13/04/2006 20:48

Now of course I am thinner I would do Audrey IYKWIM :o

PrincessPeaHead · 13/04/2006 20:49

how could I have known you meant black? I would NEVER wear black to a wedding! Grin

crunchie · 13/04/2006 20:50

something like \link{http://www.imdb.com/gallery/mptv/1297/Mptv/1297/5596_0027.jpg?path=gallery&path_key=0054698\this}

busywizzy · 13/04/2006 20:50

Oh guys, thank-you. I was feeling really nervous about what I'd chosen to wear as I don't want to let DH down. He said I looked a knock-out in my dress (ah, bless him) but I just wasn't sure if it was 'right'. Now I am Smile

Really looking forward to this now, no kids for two nights Smile
