Happens every year, leaves it till today and goes in for a scrummage for something random...

Hoping against all hope he doesn't see this
tasty little number

Anyone else share random last minute purchasing from DH at xmas?

Did you not give him a list? Shock

madammecholet · 22/12/2012 12:50

Oh no, apparently that's not in the 'spirit of Christmas' !! When I have given suggestions, he doesn't listen, forgets it, and buys something random..

Surely I am not the only one!?

Mine has done the same!! Has come back all pleased with himself....until I reminded him that he was also supposed to get me a little something from our DS!! They are going back out in a little while!!

I wouldn't mind, but I buy most of my presents, he always buys me 'the surprise', so he only has to buy one thing. Always leaves it until the last second, swears blind he will go earlier the next year and then does exactly the same thing!!

madammecholet · 22/12/2012 12:57

Yup, sounds about right dolallytats, its the SMUG 'aren't I great' that really gets on my wick. I've bought 30+ other gifts, plus food etc etc and I just have a knackered 'Look'....Grin

I always say I love whatever it is too, I've still got a b'day present gift shoved in a drawer from August as its so hideous.. It's not that he doesn't know me well enough, its the fact he leaves it to the last minute and panics.

DH usually just picks a website and does all present shipping from there. Worked wonderfully this past birthday (Forbidden Planet), not quite so well a few years ago (HMV, a few CDs I already had!)

ChristmasNamechangeBridezilla · 22/12/2012 15:10

Mine is out and about frantically sending me pictures of boots asking if I like them and panicking about what to get his mum. Grin

madammecholet · 22/12/2012 15:14

Love that *christmasnamechangebridezilla' . One year, my DH called me from town in a strop with me as he couldn't find me anything and it was 'ruining' his day! GrinGrin

DH has just got back after a 3 hour shopping session.

I am uber organised and it pisses me off no end that he leaves it till the last minute. I don't know why it irritates me, but it does.

ChristmasNamechangeBridezilla · 22/12/2012 15:18

Well that was definitely your fault. Grin

scripsi · 23/12/2012 13:17

Mine has done the same. And .... has come back with a primark bag. Really disappointing as I've been replacing all my stopgap polyester shit with good zara jackets, good quality dresses etc for work.

Even worse is that I went to primark a week ago and told him there was nothing there that I wanted (apart from the control leggings which I stocked up on).

Gah!

CointreauVersial · 23/12/2012 13:23

Why would anyone wait until this weekend to do their Christmas shopping? Parking is hideous, everywhere is heaving.....

OP, you never know, he might come up trumps, just make sure he keeps the receipt.

HoHoHokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 23/12/2012 13:25

Dh has disappeared today, said he was going to local shops but has been gone ages and his car is outside Xmas Hmm

He normally does this and goes to Oxford/Bond Street and acts like i don't notice he's been gone for hours!!

lyndie · 23/12/2012 13:33

I spent out first few Christmases nagging him to get organised but he never did so I stopped. He has just 'nipped out' for a few extra bits. Though there is a pile of unopened parcels in his office so he is more organised than usual I think!

If there are any advantages to last minute shopping it usually means you get something more expensive than you were expecting Smile

Sunnywithachanceofjinglebells · 23/12/2012 14:11

DH hasn't even left the bloody house yet!

I gave him (at his request) my Amazon wish list weeks ago. He's ordered nowt. He's got to buy presents for me and for his family.

Dingbat.

scripsi · 23/12/2012 14:13

well if I were you I'd be standing over him and watching him order things online (gave mine a wishlist, it's been ignored)

MamaWomanAha · 23/12/2012 14:16

For years I refused to give DH a wishlist as it wasn't "in the spirit of christmas".

I finally broke last year as I couldn't bear the awful gifts any longer and I didn't want him spending money on things that I was just going to give away.

madammecholet · 23/12/2012 14:17

I'm so relieved I am not the only one married to a disorganized donkey at xmas!Xmas Grin

ScaredySquirrel · 23/12/2012 14:18

oh mine has done this too today. I even hinted strongly to him in the week that the Gap cashmere was in the sale and I'd be very happy with that. Now it's all gone, so goodness knows what he's getting for me.

he ignored all earlier hints (which were really requests).

actually OP he did ask me whether I liked any bags in Russell & Bromley - here's hoping he hasn't seen that particular one...

madammecholet · 23/12/2012 15:06

OMG ScaredySquirrel I cannot understand WHO would be pleased with that bag!

Why do they do it? Is it a conspiracy to piss us all off at xmas?

If so, it works.

My husband goes round every shop on the high street at least twice and gets one present. He repeats this at each main shopping centre. It takes an afternoon at a time and and drives me crazy.

Tigerbomb · 23/12/2012 15:32

What is it with some men ..

My dh took me to Comet and apologised that he had to take me Christmas shopping - but I had to choose the gift I wanted as he didn't know which of the items was the right one. I thought fantastic, all those hints about a coffee maker have paid off. I started walking towards the coffee aisles and he said "no, you're going the wrong way". I laughed and said as long as you are not buying me a bloody Dyson......... he stormed out the shop!!

We've just gone to find some last minute stocking fillers in Boots and he steered me towards the perfume counter and said "pick one"... I left the shop.

He doesn't understand that I want him to put just a little bit of thought into what he is buying me. I don't care if it only costs a few pounds, I just want him to be thinking about what I want and not "Fuck it - that will do for Tigerbomb"

DontmindifIdo · 23/12/2012 15:35

Why don't you return the crap gifts and get something you like?

poozlepants · 23/12/2012 15:42

Mine was meant to go shopping today but has been in bed for the last 24 hours with some nasty fluey virus and unlikely to reappear for the next few days. I'm starting to feel rubbish so I presume he's given me the same virus for Christmas. He always does this lastminute Christmas present buying thing and it drives me mad as he hates shopping at the best of times so I always get tat from the least busy shop.
