Increasingly frustrated apple in seemingly fruitless search for jeans...please help me!

Festive greetings to all!

I've lost half a stone thanks to the Xmas weightloss thread on here, and was happy to see that I now manage to fit into my smaller pair of jeans. However...

At work today, chums commented (once again) on how my jeans were looking too baggy around the bum and hips.

What they don't know (but would if I lifted up my top to show them...which I won't!) is that they only JUST fit my waist.

I've been on a seemingly lifelong search to find jeans that fit my thick apple-y waist but which don't gape around my neligible bum or hips. If they do fit bum and hips, I haven't got a hope of doing them up at the waist.

I now feel at the end of my tether, as in spite of losing half a stone and being back to a size 12, due to my awkward shape I STILL look bad in jeans. Xmas Sad

I heard that Levis might be the answer, but don't know which ones. Any advice on either those or other brands very, very gratefully received. I know that there are worse things to worry about in life(!), but feeling quite despondent now...!

I feel your pain.

I find fatface jeans fit me quite well - they are generous round the waist and cut slim round hips and thighs.

Also Topshop Kristens. Skinny and high waisted. Hold everything in.

KristinaM · 13/12/2012 13:57

Well done on weight loss.

I'm an apple too and I usually wear tight straight legs/loose skinnies . I'm resigned to the fact that they will always be tight on the waist, because my hips are only 4" bigger than my waist Blush. But they do fasten up. Just. I also avoid low waist jeans to avoid muffin top.

Sorry, I'm sure that's no help at all ;-)

orangeandlemons · 13/12/2012 13:59

I have this ever since having dd. I have found h and m jeans are manageable in this area.

orangeandlemons · 13/12/2012 14:01

I often think maternity jeans might be the answer Sad

Phaedra11 · 13/12/2012 14:18

I also have this problem and haven't found the perfect jeans for our shape.

My best fitting ones are age 14 skinny jeans from the BHS range that have two different waist fittings but I appreciate this only works if you are short.

However, not jeans but these Boden Cargo type skinnies are very good for apples.

Wandastartup · 13/12/2012 14:26

I like white stuff straight legs

AsparagusFern · 13/12/2012 14:58

Hi all

Many thanks for your suggestions so far!

Orange I hadn't thought about maternity jeans before, but yes, I can see the logic!! Smile

Kristina Yes, my hips are really not that many more inches than my waist too

Zwitterioon Thanks for the tip re Topshop Kristens....will definitely go and try those. I have actually never worn skinny jeans as I've always worried that being an apple, skinny jeans may make me look 'top heavy'. However, if lots of you are wearking skinny jeans this is giving me encouragement. (And it would be nice to be able to wear something fashionable for once!)

Wandastartup Is there a name of jean at Whitestuff you can remember / could recommend in particular?

Phaedra I'm 5'3" so that could be a good tip. Will have a look!

FairyPenguin · 13/12/2012 15:47

I'm 5'2" and have the same problem!

I find that low rise jeans are bad for muffin top and also have to pull them up all the time as I have no hips to keep them in place. The ones I do have are straight leg high rise (not as trendy on my legs but fits my bum and hips as stays up), and mid rise skinny jeans with a belt (which I still have to hoick up).

Ideally I want high rise skinniest but can't find any.

FairyPenguin · 13/12/2012 15:48

Sorry, should say that any I do find are too long in the leg!

florenceuk · 13/12/2012 16:30

My hips are only about 4inches bigger than my waist and I have found the Topshop Leighs quite good (very stretchy), Zara can be OK as well - I am between sizes there so not so good for me but they are straight up and down as well. Mango worth a try as well. Skinnies avoid the problem of baggy legs because they are tight anyway round the bum and leg, if you see what I mean. Then just put a long top tunic over the top.

If you are willing to spend the money then Goldsign Virtual High Rise Skinnies were great (got them on sale!) and 7FAM high rise straights also good - nice and high, hold everything in! Somebody else recommended J Brand Marias - also high rise skinny.

Alternatively what I've done in the past is bought a pair of trews that fit in the waist and then had the sides taken in (good if you want to wear wide-legged or cigarette shapes). I think it cost about £10?

Zara TRF skinnies are good as are some gap jeans.

laptopdancer · 13/12/2012 17:23

I am totally with you on this OP.
I tried some jeans in this week...skinnies....and the ones that fit my tummy were BAGGY on the leg. Skinny jeans my butt!

I hated to do this but I had to buy jeggins in the end...at least they fit my bum and thighs and dont look saggy baggy around them.

laptopdancer · 13/12/2012 17:25

Oh and I should add....even my DH was amazed as its the first time in YEARS of wearing jeans that you can actually see I have an arse. (in a good way)

orangeandlemons · 13/12/2012 18:30

I didn'tfind the special Levi ones any good either

miche8 · 13/12/2012 21:32

I'm an apple too, fat face, topshop leighs and Levi's were the best I could find until the personal shopper at John Lewis introduced me to not your daughters jeans, they are the most expensive item of clothing I have ever bought but they are so soft and comfortable, have washed brilliantly and I've had lots of compliments and have bought 3 more pairs since. I always thought the brand was aimed at grannies but they do lots of styles, the John Lewis photos are terrible, I have the leggings and jeggings, really they are a slim fitting jean not quite a skinny but can still be tucked into boots, I urge you to at least go and try them on have really changed my life, you will need to buy a size smaller, they somehow hold your tummy in and make you bum look good but don't feel tight and dig in. I've now cleared out all my other jeans, hope to go to America next year and I believe they are much cheaper out there.

AsparagusFern · 13/12/2012 22:36

Hi all

Thank you so, so much for your recommendations.... They've given me hope! I'm going to hit town on Sat and see what I can find in the shops. Lots of these sound promising.

So comforting also to know that others feel the pain! Sometimes it seems like we apples are in the minority. Was encouraged to hear that Levi's do a good jean for apples and disappointed that they're no good either it seems.

(Whilst pondering this today, I realised that it definitely is a bad sign that I can take my jeans off without having to undo my top button or belt. Talk about Ms No Hips or Arse!)

AsparagusFern · 13/12/2012 22:45

Miche8 Just had a look at the John Lewis website. I'd never heard of that brand Not Your Daughter's Jeans and it sounds really promising - I will save up if it means an end to Baggy Arseville.

Did you mean the NYDJ straight leg though, the skinnies or just the leggings/jeggings? (I'm worried about jeggings being a bit too clinging...)

OP posts:
AsparagusFern · 13/12/2012 22:52

laptop Shock at baggy on the leg! I would've been so cross!

LaQueen Yep - many wasted ££ here too. I've always bought cheap jeans (Warehouse, Dorothy Perkins, M&S) thinking there was no point splashing out as I sort of knew none of them ruddy fit.

Though florenceuk maybe it is time to dig a bit deeper as you suggest and I might get more success...

CeeceeBloomingdale · 13/12/2012 23:14

I'm a 5'2" apple so I have issues in all directions! !Debenhams red herring super skinnies are very flattering and when bought to fit my waist are not as tight as they sound. It pains me to say it but Tesco jeans fit me really well and don't always look as though they came from Tesco!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 13/12/2012 23:17

P.s. I can also take jeans off without undoing them

AsparagusFern · 14/12/2012 13:32

Thanks Ceecee will have a browse at those too. Is it any Tesco jeans or a particular type though do you remember? I did try a pair from there before.

I think the ability to remove jeans without undoing your button/zip should be in all 'Are you an apple?' quizzes!

AngelsWithSilverWings · 14/12/2012 13:39

I've got the Boden skinny cargos and they are v generous on the waist but fit snugly everywhere else. Not the smartest as they get a bit washed washed out quickly but fine for me for every day as I'm a SAHM.

I also like the Next slim straight leg jeans. Really flattering.

laptopdancer · 14/12/2012 14:04

I have trouble with next slim...they also are baggy on my legs for the waist fit :(
