Increasingly frustrated apple in seemingly fruitless search for jeans...please help me!

Festive greetings to all!

I've lost half a stone thanks to the Xmas weightloss thread on here, and was happy to see that I now manage to fit into my smaller pair of jeans. However...

At work today, chums commented (once again) on how my jeans were looking too baggy around the bum and hips.

What they don't know (but would if I lifted up my top to show them...which I won't!) is that they only JUST fit my waist.

I've been on a seemingly lifelong search to find jeans that fit my thick apple-y waist but which don't gape around my neligible bum or hips. If they do fit bum and hips, I haven't got a hope of doing them up at the waist.

I now feel at the end of my tether, as in spite of losing half a stone and being back to a size 12, due to my awkward shape I STILL look bad in jeans. Xmas Sad

I heard that Levis might be the answer, but don't know which ones. Any advice on either those or other brands very, very gratefully received. I know that there are worse things to worry about in life(!), but feeling quite despondent now...!

Has anyone got the Topshop Kristens and the Jamies? Is there a massive difference?

TK maxx is your friend. Take every pair of jeans in your size into the changing room and try them all on. You may have to repeat this many times over a number of visits. Eventually you will find your perfect fit. My apple tummy loves 7 jeans.

onyx72 · 14/12/2012 14:45

I'm an apple shape and I'm wearing the Gok ultimate skinny jeans from Sainsburys today. I love the fit - the fact that they are really stretchy means they hold me in where necessary and the waistband actually sits on my waist.

itsTwiiiiitmaaaaasss · 14/12/2012 21:06

I'm wearing next high waisted skinners st the moment & I might get the slim leg versions for spring

EuroShagmore · 15/12/2012 08:13

I'm an apple (although I do have hips) and it takes AGES to find jeans. Currently I have some skinny CKs and some Gap non-skinnies that fit pretty well. I also have jeggngs from Oasis which don't last that well (lose colour and texture after washing a few times) but are a good fit and fit into boots.

ScienceRocks · 15/12/2012 08:46

I second the NYDJ recommendation already mentioned. I have two pairs of skinnies (thank you Amazon Black Fridays Grin) and they are fab. High waisted without being Cowellesque, the waist doesn't roll down and they fit wonderfully on the legs. They also wash really well. You do need to buy a size down though.

AntoinetteCosway · 15/12/2012 09:04

Topshop Kristens are brilliant. Jamies are less flattering IMO-they're not as high waisted so don't hold it all in as much! NYDJ are fab too, but be aware that sizes are American AND generous, so if they say 8 they are actually a 12-14. Do try before you buy, but then buy on Amazon and get them cheap Grin

CeeceeBloomingdale · 15/12/2012 09:09

Any Tesco jeans, they just seem 'me'shaped!

uptheamp · 15/12/2012 09:12

you could try zara, their jeans seem to be proportioned a bit different to the usual (ime anyway)

also TK Maxx have lots of jeans in, i would try lots on in there including levi demi cuvre

Zwitterion · 15/12/2012 10:03

Thanks Antoinette for the tip, will stick with the Kristens.

uptheamp · 15/12/2012 17:30

the zip broke on my kristens! and the knees bagged a bit

Dear lovely ladies of the internet

Thank you sooo much for your recommendations!

Hit the shops today armed with long list of said recommendations (taking this mission v. seriously).

First stop Sainsbury's.....grr, all out of jeans my size.

Next stop into town. Went to Levi's store first - the Slight Curves seemed OKAY, certainly better than usual, but thought I'd better do more research.

Next stop TopShop - oh no - crowds too much - will come back later I thought.

Next stop - department store never knowingly undersold. Well clearly they haven't heard of Amazon. Thanks Antoinette and Science for the money saving tips. Sadly! I didn't see them until now, as I found Not Your Daughter's Jeans and.......fell in love!,

You are all sooo right! Oh my god, never thought I'd find a pair of jeans that fit like a glove. I was actually giddy.

Not knowing about Amazon selling them, I bought them at full whack and will now spend January eating tins of baked beans as penance.

Seriously - all apples out there - give these babies a go! Definitely not cheap, but if searching for jeans has made you (like me) a misery, they have to be worth it. As recommended, I went down a size, which made me feel nervous, but they don't dig in at the waist (miraculously).

Bought them this AM and no joke, have received a compliment on my new and improved arse already.

So thank you, ladies of the internet. I am finally a happy apple. Xmas Smile

AsparagusFern · 15/12/2012 22:11

Aww, thanks Science. Someone said up thread that the NYDJ had 'changed their life'.... I can kinda see that now, ha! Thanks again - so glad I posted my apple woes on MN Thanks

It was me that said they changed my life, so happy for you, don't forget to wash them on a 30 like the label says and I've been using Ariel colour powder as I read bio strips the dye, I haven't dared to tumble dry them because they were so expensive.

Zwitterion · 15/12/2012 23:12

Great news, will have to try them.

LordFlasheartsCrackingNuts · 15/12/2012 23:25

marking place, will go and try these. Had given up on jeans, its nice to hear that other people have the same problem, everyone i know seems to have lovely flat stomach, i can also do the jeans down without undoing belt!

polyhymnia · 16/12/2012 09:16

Another major NYDJ fan here. So good to have jeans which fit and flatter at waist and hips without having horrible baggy legs. I have about 6 pairs, mainly skinnies in dark wash or black. Expensive but worth it. Enjoy.

FairyPenguin · 16/12/2012 13:35

Ooh, I'm going to have to try these jeans out! Thanks for reporting back!

bishboschone · 16/12/2012 19:11

Dorothy Perkins jeggings would work .. Similar to maternity around the waist but look like jeans . I have the opposite problem in I have a big bum and silly small waist . My neighbour has the most fabulous legs and bum but a huge tummy .. It's a shame she has loads of problem with trousers too. I think marks did a range to fit apples recently . Not sure if it worked .

AsparagusFern · 16/12/2012 22:32

Thanks all! And thanks miche8 for washing tip and not using bio - definitely want to preserve their lovely rich indigo colour, and yes - will just wait patiently for these ones to line dry!

What about trying on jeans men's jeans instead?

I have the opposite problem being pear shaped and with hips 12" larger than my waist, so to me most jeans seem to be cut for apples. I generally find that M & S cater more for apples than pears as well.

baahhumbug · 17/12/2012 09:31

I am the same shape and have also just lost some weight, gone from a size 14 to size 12. I love the baby bootleg jeans from Dorothy perkins, they fit well and aren't too tight on my still too fat waist but aren't too baggy around the bum. In fact, most jeans from Dorothy Perkins fit well, but I'm still struggling with the length as long is too long but regular that tiny bit too short.
