Thinking about having my hair cut really short - do I dare?

I have boring brown chin length hair with not much style.

Thinkng about having it all cut off - the problem is that my hair takes ages to grow and so if I don't like it, it could take years to grow back.

Anyone had the chop and liked it?

Depends on your head shape.
If it is good then yes,go for it.

PiccadillyCircus · 10/04/2006 12:49

Not sure what head shape I have Blush.

\link{http://www.sky.com/showbiz/article/0,,50001-1218190,00.html\this} might help, click on the 'cream of crops' picture link.

i liked sienns millers hair when she had it short.

lucykate · 10/04/2006 13:17

oops, sienna not sienns!

I had waist length hair and had it cut to short bob. Loved it once I'd got over the initial shock of feeling light-headed. Hair has now grown enough to scrape into a ponytail and I'm contemplating having it cut again, but want something different to a bob. I keep reading hair magazines in WHSmith, but think they are way too expensive to actually buy in the hope there will be just one picture in there that takes my fancy!

LillyPink · 10/04/2006 13:48

I would say don't do it. Specially if your hair takes ages to grow.

But then I don't like short hair really on anyone.

cupcakes · 10/04/2006 13:52

I had very long straightish brown hair which I had cut into a slightly layered bob a few months ago and I love it. It is now long enough to go into a ponytail but I think I am going to have it cut again.
I wouldn't have dared go shorter than that though. If you trust your hairdresser and can find some pictures of what you like then go for it!

PiccadillyCircus · 10/04/2006 15:19

Hmm - I will remain undecided for a while. DH thinks it would look good short. I'm worried I'm just bored with it and would hate it if I had it done. Might talk to the hairdresser when I next go.

The more you have cut off your hair, the quicker it will grow.

The longer it gets, the slower it grows, iyswim.

That does make sense Smile.

Never regretted it BUT it does cost more, because more frequent haircuts. Super-easy, always neat, never needs to be blow-dried.

roosmum · 10/04/2006 16:12

yes you dare PC!

i've done it twice - both times from long (down my back) to pixie short - took a pic of winona ryder. hairdressers nervous both times - "are you SURE you want me to cut it?" Grin - but i loved having it short. i love my hair short, dh not so keen. think you shd go for if, as part of the reason for the first crop was curiosity to see what it was like to have short hair...if you hate it, it's only hair & will grow!
Smile

\link{http://www.ukhairdressers.com/style/index2.asp?R1=6740&month1=&pg=1&styl1=Sa
ks\this} is a good website. The link takes you to one particular style I liked, but you'll find lots of other ideas there.

PiccadillyCircus · 10/04/2006 16:14

Have looked at some pictures iof winona ryder and feel that might be it.

And it would be cooler in the summer...

I think short can look very good indeed, maybe if you go and get it cut short you should also plan to change your make-up and make it into a mini make-over?

ambercat · 10/04/2006 16:17

I would say think carefully about your lifestyle, i got mine cut from below my shoulders to a short layered bob and now have to style and straighten it every day, drives me mad that i can't fit it in a ponytail like i used to.

On the other hand it is nice to have a change and mine does seem to be growing quicker than it used to!!

PiccadillyCircus · 10/04/2006 16:18

In my case it would be a need to wear make-up Blush.

I think its a bit of a going back to work in July thing, Would like to not look like DS and DD's mummy, but like me. And this might be me Smile.

i had waist length hair, and natural blonde.moved here and went to the hairdressers and had it all chopped and coloured!been growing it long and then when it gets past my middle of my shoulder blades i get it chopped again!also constantly colouring it!in the last month, ive been brown, blonde and now blonde on top red under neath!
but id say go for it!its nice to have a change!

lilstarry1 · 12/04/2006 16:19

GO FOR IT :)

I had hair almost to my waist, it was dark and in good condition - I did everything with it for a few years and really enjoyed the different styles, then one day I attacked it with a pair of scissors. Now my hair is about 3 inches long and I love it! It's been a variety of styles, and is SO easy to care for... Plus I never have to worry about LO grabbing it :) I'm a bit like Buffy - I have been every colour! Don't think that short hair means boring hair.. I think a good hair cut can really change the way you feel about yourself. I think I'm probably a little insane as I always cut my own hair (my mum is a hairdresser but lives too far away, and I don't trust anyone else!). I've given myself some interesting styles, but it grows fairly quickly!

If you do decide to go for the chop you should treat yourself to some new make up/clothes.. just to feel truly renovated!
