BaByliss Big Hair - any good??

PacificDogwood · 01/12/2012 19:13

I am growing out my wavy, frizz-prone hair; currently have a chin-length bob and am aiming for shoulder-length or just over.
I have neither the time, nor the inclination to spend a lot of time on styling my hair (and I am not v good at it - round brush and air-dryer is beyond me).

So, is the BaByliss Big Hair as good as the hype?? Any (bad) experiences? They seem to go used on ebay for similar money as new on Amazon Hmm.
Any experiences you'd care to share much appreciated Smile.

I have one and I love it. If it broke tomorrow I would replace it straight away.

I have a bob (just off my shoulders), my hair is slightly wavy and looks dreadful if left to dry naturally. I towel dry my hair, section it and then use the Big Hair and it looks pretty good, I too am rubbish at styling my hair.
It makes my hair glossy and gives it body, I prefer it to my GHD's.

When I've had my hair shorter it's not worked so well, there isn't enough hair to get around the barrel, you may find that it doesn't come in to it's own until your hair is a bit longer.

raspberrytart · 01/12/2012 19:25

My hair is thick and shoulder length and prone to frizz if I just wash it and leave it-however I love my big hair.

Once you have washed and towel dried it,pop a bit of serum through, blast with hair dryer till you look like you've been dragged through a hedge backwards.

Then clip the top half of hair up (going from the top of your ears and round)with one of those big clips to keep it out of the way and use the big hair to finish off drying, curling the bottom section, when thats done use sections to finish the top half. You will get sore arms!
Takes 10 mins and last 2 days
I love mine
Hope this helps!!

Got one I've only used twice. Takes too long on my thick mop! No box or instructions but would be happy to sell for £20. PM me if you're interested.

PacificDogwood · 01/12/2012 19:36

Ah, thank you all - you all sound like BaByliss is payling you to say such lovely things about their product WinkGrin.

There must be somebody out there who had their hair yanked out at the roots by this contraption, surely??

I do often just wash, use l'Oreal hair oil (magic!) and let it air-dry which is fine for school run and rolling around the floor with PacificToddlers. When I am aiming for a slightly more professional, 'together' look, I use my GHDs but as my hair is growing that is getting more time consuming, so was looking for something that would style AND dry.

Thanks for that heads up, Coconutty.

Keep'em coming, peeps!

Have just sold mine on eBay after using twice. It looked fine when just done but had flopped out within an hour. I get better results with a big round brush & my hair dryer (I have shoulder length straight heavy hair).

marleybrodie · 01/12/2012 19:49

Bought one last month- not really impressed.
I have curly hair-bought it in the hope I would be able to use it to straighten my hair without using straightners.
Not able to use it for this - just doesn't seem to have the heat or tension neeeded to straighten my hair.
It does give my hair a nice shine but to be honest for me a more versatile hair gadget is my set of heated rollers.

Ilovecrossfit · 01/12/2012 20:12

Im not too impressed my hair is quite long and very thick, if my sis does it yes its good but otherwise if I wanted to do it myself it would take hours!!

ecuse · 01/12/2012 20:15

I have been mulling one of these over. I have shoulder length fine hair prone to frizz that I don't get round to trimming often
enough. Anyone use it on very fine hair?

PuppyMonkey · 01/12/2012 20:17

I have a short bob and it's marvellous to keep it in style. I don't use straighteners any more, just bbh.

bluebump · 01/12/2012 20:21

I like mine but my hair is far too long to use it every day as it takes ages to do. I was hoping it would be something I could use every day but I just tend to use it at weekends when I have more time.

Charliefox · 01/12/2012 20:25

My hair is very fine and I've got one. The style holds ok for about an hour after using it but then it just drops out and looks as though I've just let it air dry.

Chottie · 01/12/2012 20:29

I have one and have fine hair. It makes my hair look shiny and glossy and gives my hair body. I am on my second one Xmas Smile

BieneMaja · 01/12/2012 20:30

For shorter hair- below chin or so- is the barrel too big? I've seen that Argos do a smaller barrel version. Would that be better for fine floppy shortish hair?!?

Otherwise I quite fancy giving it a try. Just can't decide what size to go for Confused

middleagedspread · 01/12/2012 20:47

Jaw length bob here, use daily after rough drying.
I needed lots of practice not to tangle and I 2nd the need for protection spray.
I wouldn't be without it for body & shine.
Still can't do the back though.

ggirl · 01/12/2012 21:00

I have jaw length layered bob and use mine everyday. I completely dry my hair first though , I have the smaller version which is great for my length.

It is difficult to get volume on the top of my head without using a lot of product and then I get my hair stuck..any tips anyone? or should I be drying my hair with it for volume.

TigerseyeMum · 01/12/2012 21:05

Love mine. Longer, very curly hair. I get a very natural glossy sophisticated look with it and it lasts a few days if I use it to freshen it in between.

Only works if I section it and dry in sections, takes a bit longer but worth it. As someone with curly hair this has revolutionised my hair as now I can have floppy, bouncy, loose hair not just tight curls or frizz.

I also have straighteners and rollers but neither work anywhere near as well.

sweetheart · 01/12/2012 22:09

I have mid length fine hair and I didn't like it and sold it on EBay. It gave my hair a bit of volume but it dropped out quickly and using it made my fine hair either greasy or very fly away and static

SundaeGirl · 01/12/2012 23:04

Coconut toy and mas - what protection spray are you using?

I loved my BBH for 18 months but it trashed my hair.

alemci · 01/12/2012 23:21

i think it is quite good on my longish layered bob. could anyone advise on hair products other than mousse. My hair looked lovely in the salon but with mousse at home it can be a bit crispy and dull.

use big hair most times i do my hair as it looks awful if i don't style it.

PacificDogwood · 02/12/2012 10:11

Thanks again for all your posts.

So, in summary, maybe smaller barrelled one for chin-length hair?
Heat protection spray a must - any recommendations? I got one free when I bought my GHDs and really dislike it intensely Confused.
May take some practice.

Ok. I am even more tempted now Grin

I have longish (armpit length), fine hair prone to frizz and I love it. No sign of hair damage and I would replace it straight away if it broke. I am hopeless with beauty gadgets and stuff but even I can work the BBH.

slalomsuki · 02/12/2012 11:12

Love mine too. I have thin frizzy shoulder length hair and it smooths it and gives it a wave rather than curls or frizz. I leave t to the almost dry stage then do the Big hair bit. I have to spray it with hairspray afterwards to hold it in place but I agree it lasts two days.
