Some of them are better done on naturally oily skin (as they are super sticky and will take a layer of skin off if you're not careful) whereas you get more grip if you've just washed your face.

TBH I'd have a go on 'dirty' skin as it's your first time, pull the skin very taut and rip it off very fast against the direction of hair growth. Gentle wash with water afterwards, don't go scrubbing any residue off.

I've done mine for years and use the Parissa strips which are lethal but work really well and grab the tiniest hair.

how do I get my skin dirty?Confused
oh man this is gonna hurt isn't it?

Oh do come back and let us know how it goes! I use Boots own facial hair removing cream for sensitive skin because I'm too frightened to try waxing!

Meglet · 26/11/2012 14:19

sorry, I just meant normal end-of-the-day oily skin. (you don't have to cover yourself in dust or anything!).

It'll hurt a bit, but not so much if you're skin is oily. There's a knack to it so I wouldn't do it on freshly washed skin as it will adhere possibly too well!

WankbadgersBreakfast · 26/11/2012 14:21

I thought you were talking about using moustache wax to give yourself a rather spiffy well-groomed mo.

good luck, then Grin

I always dust a bit of talc on first - helps it stick better. Mind you, that's with wax strips - I'm not sure what you're using. Only do each bit once - get any stragglers with tweezers. You'll be fine!

AViewfromtheFridge · 27/11/2012 06:41

Oh, sorry - just seen your last post. Try again tonight? It's worth it!

WankbadgersBreakfast · 27/11/2012 08:01

Awww Early, I'm sure it's not that bad Smile
You can do it!

EarlyInTheMorning · 27/11/2012 09:08

Aww, come on! It really doesn't hurt that much. If you're feeling chicken take a couple of painkillers half an hour before you do the deed, just to take the edge off. Once you've done it you'll realise what a piece of piss it is, and you won't be able to stop touching your naked tash zone with your tongue.

butteroneverything · 27/11/2012 09:50

Sorry to crash this thread, but what about the regrowth? I've been thinking of doing this for ages but always chickened out because I'm worried it'll grow back all dark and thick and stubbly - does it? How often do you end up waxing?

Spoiltexpatbrat · 27/11/2012 09:50

As a beauty therapist I would recommend

A painkiller, at least 1 hour before Wink
Clean skin, but make sure it's dry after cleaning.
Only go over the same area once any more you are likely to bruise the skin or break the skin. Both will look extremely unpleasant!
Make sure you pull in the right direction, keeping skin taut as you pull.
Once wax sooth area with diluted tea tree.
Avoid makeup, creams and everything else on the skin for a few hours.

Good luck!

Spoiltexpatbrat · 27/11/2012 09:54

Sorry about the typos Blush on my phone.

butteroneverything your hair will not grow back any darker or thicker. This is a common misconception. However you will feel it to be a little more 'stubbly' hence it might feel thicker. Hair growth has three stages. So to get the best out of waxing it is advised to do it every 4-6 weeks.

After a period of time you will find you will do it less frequently as the hairs won't grow back as much Smile

TapselteerieO · 27/11/2012 11:33

I use olive oil after waxing - I find the blue oil that comes with the strips too astringent, it helps take any residual wax off too, very gently.

addictedismoving · 27/11/2012 11:36

can I ask a really daft question? I've started noticing really dark hairs and really long hairs on my chin and upper lip, I usually pluck but have been thinking about waxing or hair removal creams for some time.

When I do my legs they go all read and blotchy. Is this going to happen to my face?

Spoiltexpatbrat · 27/11/2012 11:55

addictedismoving I would avoid creams and stick to waxing. You can get gentle waxes sensitive skins or a tree tree/ lavender based wax which will lessen the redness.

You will probably get some kind of reactions, sounds like you skin is a little sensitive to wax. I would do it in the evening so you can just go to Ed and let the skin heal!

Spoiltexpatbrat · 27/11/2012 11:56

Bloody I phone Angry

I meant go straight to bed not Ed Hmm

addictedismoving · 27/11/2012 12:01

read? rorry that should have been red!

My legs go red and blotchy if I shave, use cream (which actually rarely works Hmm) I've actually not tried waxing my legs, I'm too much of a chicken!

Spoiltexpatbrat · 27/11/2012 12:14

this is the best home wax I have found it's more time consuming than strip wax but much better overall result and gentler too. Just make sure it's hot enough but not too hot, test on inside of wrist.

Longdistance · 27/11/2012 12:22

I wish my dh would wax or shave He's doing Movember, and it's quite a good contraceptive!

EarlyInTheMorning · 27/11/2012 16:17

My mustache is really blonde, just in the last 3 months or so I've noticed how thick it's become (age thing I guess) and when I put make up on it really stands out. Thank you everyone for your tips. Tonight's the night...

Spoiltexpatbrat · 27/11/2012 16:59

Hope you have taken your painkillers! Grin
