I use the Veet hot wax (the microwave one with strips). Cold strips just don't work for me.

It takes a microsecond to do, and the results are long lasting.

But don't do it 5 minutes before you go to collect the DC from school.I had to scrabble to find something to cover my attractive red lip Blush

hk78 · 28/11/2012 09:24

This type of thing:

www.amazon.co.uk/Epistick-Epilator-Facial-Hair-Removal/dp/B004LNXA0Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1354094461&sr=8-1

is the best thing since sliced bread.

I can't use creams because they give me an attractive chemical burn, waxing takes a layer off, electric epilator gives me spots, etc etc grumble grumble....

but these little hand-held thingies are ace, i've had mine about 5 yrs, cost me about £3, no side effects, only hurts as much as tweezers, and only slight redness which disappears overnight.

The one in the link isn't the exact one i've got, but similar just to give you an idea. Brilliant.

GeordieCherry · 28/11/2012 09:28

Threading!
No hot wax on your face, much less red after, more thorough,
Good luck Smile

EarlyInTheMorning · 28/11/2012 10:17

I still haven't done it Blush
hk78 I have that thing, I must be thick because I just can't work it out

I would get it done first at a beauticians. It only takes a couple of minutes and you're sure not to hurt yourself. I had it done recently for the first time - same as you, blond hair but getting thicker.

Then this summer I did an emergency waxing job on myself but I missed lots so it looked odd.

holidaysrcoming · 28/11/2012 12:51

Im sorry but I disagree with the poster who said it is a myth that if you wax facial hair it doesn't grow back stronger or darker - mine did !!! maybe i'm an exception, but I too have a 'tache but given what happened to my chin am no way going to approach it with wax. mine is dark but fine though, so i use jolene bleach.

EarlyInTheMorning · 28/11/2012 12:54

Problem is under certain lighting, blonde hair is very very noticeable. Honestly, mine's very very blonde but still, it's there you know? And also, when you bleach dark hair it can sometimes look yellowy.

holidaysrcoming the hair on the skins surface tends to get whispy as it gets longer. Once you wax, the hair is pulled deep from within the follicle. Sometimes the hairs can 'snap' and not be pulled out cleanly. If this happens you will feel the stubbiness of the hair shaft. This gives the illusion that the hair has grown back thicker. It really hasn't though!

Also due to the hair growing in three stages and not all hair being in the same stage, you will experience some new hair looking slightly darker, this is the newest hair growth. If you are very unlucky, you might find that you catch the hair in this cycle and you will get more 'virgin' hair coming through at the same time. This hair tends to carry the pigment. So will give the illusion the hair is growing back darker. Again this really isn't the case.

Best get it done regularly so that all three cycles are caught. Over time the follicle will stop producing the hair due to damage/ age etc. so hopefully you will need to do it less and less

holidaysrcoming · 28/11/2012 13:27

then why oh why haven't my follicles under my chin stopped producing ?!?!?
i am fed up, have waxed under there for years, tried laser twice. There doesn't appear to be any reduction, I started with a dozen, after waxing more like three dozen, wish I'd never started.

Do you think expat that for some people their hormones will just make them produce more hair no matter what ?!? Am concerned approaching menopause that I am going to have an involuntary sex change !

Spoiltexpatbrat · 28/11/2012 13:33

holidaysrcoming unfortunately some people to produce more hair, or have hair that is naturally thicker/ strong to kill off!

If your hair is dark it should of responded well to lazer. A minimum of 6 treatments for the lip/ chin area is recommended. My best results with lazer ing were on ladies who were pale but had dark hairs.

Sometimes hormones change and go slightly haywire as the menopause approaches. The skin changes as does the hair growth.

Did you wax regularly? How long between waxes?

holidaysrcoming · 28/11/2012 14:18

I prob wax every two weeks, the problem being that the hairs are at different stage of growth. occasionally i have fantasies of letting it all grow out and waxing it all together !! some hairs are sooo thick now though, and i NEVER pluck, i just don't understand why. Tried electrolysis for a while back in the day, am too sceptical about the laser working v the cost, they also shaved (although in direction of hairgrowth) before they did it and I swear that meant more hair grew back where previously there was none.

I can see how my underarms/legs have lessened with 20 odd years of waxing, but just not this area, so am assuming hormones are to blame.

It'll probably come out of my ears soon Grin

EarlyInTheMorning · 30/11/2012 07:07

Well I still haven't done it
Got a question
Do I do the whole thing in one go...
or in 3 little sections?

OP posts:
Spoiltexpatbrat · 30/11/2012 10:22

Good morning chicken Grin

You do two or three sections. One either side, smooth down and pull towards your nostril. Repeat other side.

If needed the third section is under your nose. The hair normally grows in a different pattern here. Smooth strip and pull from section close to lip towards nose again!

EarlyInTheMorning · 30/11/2012 10:27

Chicken is quite accurate is this case Grin
Right that's what I thought, 3 sections.
I'm totally doing this
tonight
maybe...

Congratulations! Xmas Grin

Pootles2010 · 03/12/2012 10:43

It feels...odd after doesn't it? I had to stop waxing and use cream because I kept getting little red spots absolutely nothing to do with the pain

Meringue33 · 03/12/2012 12:30

Just use Veet! It's so much less scary. I use the pink one, it's sensitive, and whip it off really quick - as soon as you see the hairs go limp - so you don't get a chemical sting. Clean thoroughly with warm washrag and slather in cocoa butter x

EarlyInTheMorning · 03/12/2012 13:09

It does feel off as I can no longer lick my tache!!
I would have got the red spots by now if I was to get them, right?

I recommend using an epistick, doesn't hurt.
