Sorry for the shameless copy cat thread!

I sympathise with the other poster feels.

I feel like I put an awful lot of effort into carefully choosing clothes for my shape. NO matter how much i like something on the hanger if I try it on and it's not right I won't get it.

I don't wear patterns. I wear boots with a block heel I can walk in. I am constantly on the look out for outfits that flatter me and yet....... for all the thought I put in to it, if I catch a glimpse of myself in a mirror or a shop window I'm never pleased. I'm size 12 and five 2. So I'm not like dannie minogue for example whose thinness makes her overall shape longer iyswim.

So are you under 5'4". Share your secrets. Do you also avoid patterns or is that just me?

It must be SO SO easy for kate moss to look good. Honestly, she doesn't put half the effort into looking ten times as good as I do.

I'm just 5ft and find as others have said that its better to keep to slim silhouettes - nothing too outsized or I just look dumpy.

I do always wear heels but not silly ones - also I try to tone the colours on my bottom half in winter so indigo skinnies with some navy suede ankle boots to create the illusion of more length.

I also find that slim fitting coats that hit mid-thigh are flattering.

French stores are good for smaller women like Comptoir and also agree about J Crew.

I'm 5'2" and manage to look both pathetically short and like a drag queen! I'm a size 6-8 and hate buying clothes. Suits are relatively straightforward, fortunately, as I'm quite long in the arms and body so jackets fit OK and I just have to get the trouser hems turned up. If I were rich I would wear Armani all the time- I have a fantastic suit from them which is the most flattering thing I've ever owned. Italian and Spanish stuff generally seems to be better for short curvy women.

icebergjam The White Co jersey dresses look nice but where do they come up to on you? The model is tall and surely they would come down to your ankles?! I'm 5'2 and also look like a child in suits, shift dresses are always too long and gappy around my shoulders. So still looking for holy grail smart wear!

that jcrew site is very expensive!

I am 5' 1" and a size 12 (sometimes 10). I have a fairly quirky take on clothes so the upside is my friends often comment on how stylish or glamorous I look but the down side is that sometimes I look like a mad old bag lady.

This Winter I am wearing some awesome white leopard print brothel creeper shoes, mini skirts (a-line in bright colours like tangerine or wool ones in cable knit grey/black) and a variety of baggy jumpers (particularly lurex threaded or with cartoon inspired designs on). I also love a lot of proper vintage stuff and am currently wearing to death a 60s flared leopard print long coat - my most complimented current garment. Also 60s flared mini dresses are ace.

I never really bother with trousers except for 3/4 lengths in the Summer - which I roll up. Gingham is my favourite.

I'm just 5ft and a size 6-8. I rather like being petite. I find I can get away with wearing quite quirky things that my bigger friends can't.
I tend to buy coats and jackets from petite ranges to get a good fit. It can be a bit limiting at times. This year I have bought a great tweed blazer from Boden petite that goes with so much of my wardrobe.
I wear lots of skinny jeans with heeled ankle boots, paired with quirky print tops and blouses. I wear French Connection jersey dresses with opaques and brogues. I can also get away with shorts and cashmere sweaters with heels.

I am 5ft1 and size 10.

One of the trick I use is a short dress(above knees) or tunic top with a long necklace, I think that make you look taller.

And also I look on ebay for seller who sell Korean/Japanese/Chinese fashion (look for clothes that are modeled by oriental models), because their clothes are actually designed for women who are about 5'2" so no need to shortened anything. They are usually very reasonable too.

B1ueberryFields · 09/11/2012 13:15

I'll have to try that long necklace trick! I usually find tunics a bit too long on me though.

Jean, its actually The White Company tunics I wear as dresses! They are just above the knee.

I really like them.

Hello, this is a great thread!
Has anyone got any suggestions of what to wear to a uni graduation? In December. I have to wear a black and red gown, and should wear something 'dark' underneath it according to the dress code.
I'm short (5ft 1), curvy (size 10-12), and could do with losing half a stone first...
Please help!

I was wondering if anyone knew of any high street dresses similar in style to this one:
www.polyvore.com/jay_ahr_black_ruffle_sleeve/thing?id=63540829
as I saw it when I googled 'short and curvy dresses' and love the look of it, but I cannot afford £1000 on a dress...could afford up to £150-200 though.

Thank you.

B1ueberryMuffin · 11/11/2012 21:09

this is nicer imo

i'm five 1 and a half and size 10-12 so in hobbs, i'd go for ten.

studyingstudying · 11/11/2012 22:32

Oohh, that is nice! Thanks for the link. Much more my price range. And the skirt should sit better under a gown. Must go and try it on tomorrow/Tues. Thank you!

TapselteerieO · 11/11/2012 23:17

Mango have a few dresses in that style studying - I think Mango dresses are propbably shorter than a lot of high street dresses.

Meggles76 · 12/11/2012 05:58

Have you tried French Connection for dresses? I find a lot of them from there fit me quite well and don't come up ridiculously long.

studyingstudying · 12/11/2012 23:34

Thanks for the other suggestions - dresses that are fairly short would be great, something a bit above my knee. We have a Mango here, and a FC in John Lewis, so I'll check those out tomorrow.

Thank you!
