Philips Lumea IPL hair reduction/removal

Dru77 · 06/11/2012 12:51

Has anyone got a Philips Lumea IPL thingy and used it for a prolonged period? Does it work?

£350 is a lot of money to risk on something that might be all hype.

No need for you to recharge the battery, in the long term less costly. I know people who used lumea for 12 times and hair comes back. I am so happy with the saloon treatments and happy i did not buy the phillips machine.
Many of my friends have become literally hair free after investing money in proper laser hair removal done by trained, experienced technicians, with proper dermatologist assessments before and in between treatments.
Note: in order for the hair root to "catch" the laser you should avoid tanning at all costs, before, in between and after treatments.

Aria701, sounds great, how expensive is it? I just want my upper lip doing.

Hi guys, about the IPL Lumea Precision - I need some feedback from someone who is using it already. I have just bought this product and I find the flash very strong on my eyes...does anyone else experience this at all? Is this normal? I would compare the flash to a flash from a camera - which is rather blinding for few secs, and after half hour use - my eyes are a bit sore....just want to know if this is the case with all of them or just my eyes are a bit too sensitive....?Thank you for your feedback!!

dustyhousewithdustypeople · 10/02/2015 14:42

I shut my eyes when it flashes, thought it would be a bit too bright to be safe for eyes and didn't want to take any chances.

MewlingQuim · 10/02/2015 14:49

I use mine during daylight in a well lit room. If I have to use it in the evenings under artificial light then I don't look at it.

I love my lumea. I use it about once every 4 months now. Salons might give better results but it would have cost me about 2.5K to get everything done.

rararag · 20/02/2016 13:13

Hey
I had a patch test gor laser hair removal at a clinic and came up with a reaction. I've tried twice and reacted both times. Do you know if id be able to use the lumena?

laureywilliams · 02/03/2016 11:14

Bumping to see if anyone has any more up to day experiences of any of these products... Wondering whether to gets Philips or Boots own. Thanks!

Mrs9C · 02/03/2016 11:45

If anyone sees any deals, please do alert us. It would make such a difference to my body. Not that I can afford it at the moment Sad but going to try and save for one.

Mrs9C · 02/03/2016 11:52

Does anyone rate the compact one? It can also be used on the face, but not bikini, is that right? I would really need it to work on bikini to make it worth getting for me.

321zerobaby · 02/03/2016 11:54

apricot I have been having IPL in a salon, they give you protective glasses/ goggles for your eyes.

I know the Lumea gets good reviews on hers, has anyone used it long term, had nearly permanent results? I am happy with the IPL I've had done, but thinking of getting a Lumea for other areas. I just wondered how effective it can be, costing £250/300, when a salon machine cost £36,000?

laureywilliams · 02/03/2016 11:55

Thanks for all the info everyone.

I've just bought the 'Lumea Advanced for face and body 1999' from the Philips website. I used the code '25TIMESTHANKS' to get a a 25% discount. Total cost was £225 (down from £300).

Mrs9C · 02/03/2016 11:56

I also don't understand the difference between the models, they all tick the same boxes, what makes one more expensive than the other?

laureywilliams · 02/03/2016 11:57

321 presumably a salon machine has to be able to zap all day long, day in day out. Whereas the lumea does half an hour every couple of weeks with and eventually even less. I imagine that's the main difference

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/03/2016 19:07

I have just bought the lumea comfort on amazon, its about 160 pounds. I haven't noticed much difference yet but I have only used it twice on my face. I was only searching this thread to find out any tips, thoughts it was a zombie thread, but you must have all had the same idea as me! I was wondering if I can use it more regularly than once a week as I have very fast growing hair due to pros, and I can't wax due to using this so I'm looking a bit beardy!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/03/2016 19:08

Due to pcos

toomuchinternets · 04/03/2016 19:05

I don't see why not...? It took 3 weeks of me thinking nothing had happened before it suddenly all started falling out!

DarkBlueEyes · 04/03/2016 19:12

I have one. I'm blonde haired, blue eyes, dark body hair unfortunately

I think it's good. I used to work in a clinic that did IPL and I had loads done there, which did bloody hurt but it is effective. I have the Lumea on maximum and it doesn't hurt at all. Only use it on my face I appear to be growing a moustache but I would recommend.

PicknMix · 28/03/2016 20:35

I've literally just bought one from John Lewis as it was the best deal I could find (£269 until 28.03.16 - it's advertised at £450 on the Philips website). I wanted this one because it has 250,000 flashes and a facial attachment. As far as I could make out, the only difference is that the next model up has a bikini line attachment. I could have misunderstood though!

I've just got mine out again after I got it last year but didn't have the patience for it.

Now I read online another way of using it which I hadn't realised for some reason last year. You can keep the flash trigger held down and slide it along rather than pressing and waiting each time. My legs have taken far less time and effort.

Am on second use so no change yet, fingers crossed it works as I really have a hair problem ...

NattyGolfJerkin · 05/06/2016 17:43

I love mine. Got it about 6 weeks ago and have just done my third round of treatment. I am very fair skinned and medium/dark haired, so an ideal candidate for this. My legs and underarms definitely need shaving less often (every third day rather than every day) and the hair feels softer, so it is definitely less dense growth. My bikini line has been the area with most drastic difference, I've noticed a real change there (probably because the hair is darker & more coarse, change is much more noticeable).

Pain wise, I do find it gets very hot. It isn't agony by any stretch but it isn't pain-free, either. Especially around sensitive areas. Sort of like being flicked with hot elastic bands on level 5.
