Maureen you make me howl with laughter with your style critiques!

First two items of knitwear - agree, totally heinous.

Deckchair top - could look chic with a gorgeous Marni-esque necklace such as <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=marni+necklace&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&biw=1649&bih=903&tbm=isch&tbnid=r01dXL_Pj9rDBM:&imgrefurl=www.stylehive.com/site/net-a-porter.com/tag/embellished/recent/grid/30&docid=s1rUSzvP3-CCPM&imgurl=cachexl.net-a-porter.com/images/products/42489/42489_in_xl.jpg&w=920&h=1380&ei=4MaLUMaDG-Gw0QWhi4CYBQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=568&vpy=410&dur=8219&hovh=275&hovw=183&tx=99&ty=144&sig=106889118181324983211&page=2&tbnh=131&tbnw=87&start=43&ndsp=61&ved=1t:429,r:36,s:20,i:247" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this Ditto the Amish dress you linked too.

Love the "mini" skirt but agree that it is not remotely mini and will probably need taking up on a short arse like me. But I do have a navy silk shirt which will look gorgeous with it.

The vintage shirt dress needs to be worn unbuttoned as low as you dare and teamed with either suede knee high boots, tan ankle boots or Swedish Hasbeens type sandals.

Love the oxblood faux leather leggings.

polyhymnia · 27/10/2012 12:59

Your post got me going back to Boden site to look for coated leggings but there weren't any, unsurprisingly!

MrsBovary · 27/10/2012 14:16

I agree with whoever said winter must have been a fluke (I bought lot for the first time in year this a/w).

No children's clothes in the preview again. Must be because they've reduced the prices?

Sariska · 27/10/2012 14:29

Hmm, the only thing I'm tempted to order is the Amelie dress in dark navy and parchment. It's a style that suits me and I have a thing for stripes.

Wish they'd put measurements on the preview site, though. I'm 5'10" and still sometimes find the long length is frumpily long...

polyhymnia · 27/10/2012 14:49

Yes I have same problem. Tall and, without measurements, no idea if some things even worth trying.

MissBoPeep · 27/10/2012 15:07

I seem to be alone in liking maybe 3-4 dresses. They have small prints or plain, are not wrapover or sleeveless shifts and have no circles or embellishment. I do actually like some of the other dresses but would not pay £100 +.

Meggles76 · 27/10/2012 16:39

I caved and ordered the oversize striped linen. Am size 6-8 and am still smarting about missing out on a couple of winter bits that sold out quickly in about 2 weeks. Boden never seem to get their stock levels right and it really riles me!

polyhymnia · 27/10/2012 16:50

MissBoPeep, which dresses do you like?

MaureenCognito · 27/10/2012 16:50

I saw one like that in top shop today just. Maroon. Black grey etc

MissBoPeep · 27/10/2012 21:23

Polyh I know they won't be to your taste- I had my eye on the Adelaide dress, the drapey day dress and the Ledbury in plain navy.

polyhymnia · 27/10/2012 23:53

Thanks for the update, Miss. Not sure how you know my taste! In fact, I really like the Ledbury, and would also try the drapey. Only thing which stops me trying is that, alas, I don't do sleeveless.

So not a question of taste, just that I know they wouldn't look good on me unless I covered my top arms all the time, which is too much faff.

MaureenCognito · 28/10/2012 00:43

Lol

hattymattie · 28/10/2012 08:01

OK after a second look I'm considering the ballerina pumps in duck egg and the easy going top in the same colour and that's my lot!

MissBoPeep · 28/10/2012 08:18

Ploy well, maybe not your taste exactly but I've followed your Boden posts for a while (I've name changed a while back) and I know we are very different shapes- I'm a 5 3' titch and a size 8-10, which limits what I can wear.

MissBoPeep · 28/10/2012 08:18

Sorry that's Poly!

polyhymnia · 28/10/2012 11:40

Fair enough, Miss - agree we're completely different heights and shapes - and I'm limited by my height aznd size at the other end of the scale.

Nevertheless, must say the Ledbury is one of the few pieces I'd have bothered with trying from SS, if only it'd had some sleeves of some kind!

MissBoPeep · 28/10/2012 12:08

I think on the whole the prices are lower- though still a bit high.

My biggest criticism is that Johnnie panders to the yummy mummy with tummy brigade. So many dresses and tops are empire line or have oodles of fabric across the tummy.

As I am petite and work VERY hard at staying in shape, I like clothes that are more fitted around the waist- but I do have poor upper arms so prefer a short sleeve.

polyhymnia · 28/10/2012 12:39

Looking closely at the Ledbury, I see claims to have cap sleeves. But, as they haven't managed to put any measurements on, there's no way of knowing what these are actually like - or how long the dress itself is for that matter. I've seen them classify plenty of dresses in past as 'above knee', yet, when you check the measurements, the dress wouldn't be - even on me at 5'9''.

missmehalia · 28/10/2012 13:19

Have rocked with laughter at what you've all said here. I have a friend who always refers to Boden as contraceptive clothing. Cannot help snorting at this either, although have bought a few plain tops from there before in the sales. The prints are so distinctive though.. I don't personally see it as a strength.

MaureenCognito · 28/10/2012 13:20

Lol at contraceptives

MrsCampbellBlack · 28/10/2012 16:38

You see MissBo - I think he cuts for pears - empire lines are the worst shape possible for apples.

OP posts:
polyhymnia · 28/10/2012 17:14

I think pears is closest. I'm an (admittedly large) hourglass who likes definition at waist and Boden stuff is often too snug on bust, too wide at waist and hips for me.

Caerlaverock · 28/10/2012 17:17

Hotchpotch Breton top has receivership written all over it

ovariantryst · 28/10/2012 19:01

A hotchpotch breton? Oh god, my eyes... does anyone ever buy any of the hotchpotch stuff? Who the hell do they sell them to?

This is not so much vintage as 'crawled out of the 70s and is coming to get me - argh!':
