Where is the best place to take a very body concious dd to be measured and fitted for a good sports bra? We do a guess and try on and blush approach to ordinary bras but she needs a decent sports bra.

thank you - I'll do that later.

Nearest Bravissimo is miles and miles away :( and we are running out of time to get stuff for her. Before Sunday I mean

Hm yes might be tricky. Well I personally find that shock absorber comes up a bit small in the band anyway, so if she thinks that the current one offers enough support, she should be fine. But otherwise, I still consider it unlikely that a size 6/8 needs a 32 bra.

Why don't you take a look at this thread? I know it's long, but has a lot of useful info.

Hazelnut I am a size 8 and 32D, (36-28-35) no way could I wear a smaller band.

Sleepwhenidie · 28/09/2012 17:47

So I guess what I mean is, there isn't necessarily a correlation between dress size and bra size, it depends on your ribcage and how your weight is distributed surely?Confused

SorrelForbes · 28/09/2012 17:48

Sleep - Is your under bust measurement 36"?

(Sorry Hazel, can't help myself Blush)

SorrelForbes · 28/09/2012 17:49

No, not necessarily a correlation but it would be unusual to be a size 8 and to measure 36" under the bust.

HazleNutt · 28/09/2012 17:59

Yes sure same size people don't have necessarily same size bras and some people have wider ribcages, but if a very slim person is in a bra usually fitting several sizes larger people, it is more likely that she simply not been fitted properly.
That's why I was wondering what underbust measurement OPs daughter has. If her waist is smaller than size 6 (which is what, 25 inches?) then it's possible, but quite unlikely that her body suddenly expands 7 inches, to a 32 underbust measurement.

Sleepwhenidie · 28/09/2012 18:09

31 under bust

TellMeLater · 28/09/2012 18:30

I have a 26inch waist and I wear a 32D, just measured my ribcage - it's 30in, but my 30DD bra is too tight.

Mydogsleepsonthebed · 28/09/2012 18:32

Her friend is here right now so I can't get at her with the tape measure but I will say that she has a VERY pronounced waist - as in she goes out, IN, out from boobs, to waist, to hips.

You probably need a 30 F or even G, Tellme. I'm a stone overweight atm, size 12 with a 30 in waist, and I wear a 30G.

People often say they find the right size band too tight, but most of the aupport is supposed to come from the band rather than the straps, so it's a matter of getting used to it. Bras do soften up after a couple of washes sadly.

TellMeLater · 28/09/2012 18:47

No my 30dd is too big in the cups, G would be enormous - my 32 feels tight enough, it's an art not a science surely?

SorrelForbes · 28/09/2012 19:11

Sleep. Ok I'd start you in a 30 or 32 back max. What is your across bust measurement. As a rough guide every inch bigger than the under bust measurement equals a cup size.

BieneMaja · 28/09/2012 19:13

I'm supposed to be a 30e according to bravissimo but I nearly passed out when I wore that for more than 5 minutes Angry
I'm most comfortable in a 32dd

SorrelForbes · 28/09/2012 19:15

TellMe. Honestly a 30 or 32 band would be better. If they feel too tight then you need a bigger cup size and you need to scoop everything in to the cup (loads of info on this on a recent thread about how do you wear your bras).

I measure 30 underneath and 38/39 across and wear a 30G. I could not, however, wear a 30E for example as it would feel too tight in the band due to the cups being too small and my noobs having nowhere to go Grin. Bras are strange things

SorrelForbes · 28/09/2012 19:16

A tighter bra definitely takes a little getting used to. Once you've become accustomed to the fit though you'll never go back!

OwedToAutumn · 28/09/2012 19:19

If you are near a John Lewis, they were really good for DD1. There is a big fluffy robe in the changing room, to put on when deshabille, and the women seem to be discreet and matronly types, so hopefully not too embarrassing.

The fit was spot on, too. According to Debenhams website she should have been 36A. At John Lewis, she was a 32C. She is about a size 10.

TellMeLater · 28/09/2012 19:22

I only measure 36 across though and everything gets scooped up, my boobs are well supported by the back strap as opposed to the shoulder straps. Wire sits flat on body...no back fat, no side boob issues....and the other thing is all bras fit differently but I only wear one type - the Fantasie moulded uplifted t shirt bra. Ugly maybe but makes my boobs look amazing, I'm well beyond fancy silky stuff, I need the scaffolding.

SorrelForbes · 28/09/2012 19:35

Hmmm, going on measurements alone TellMe, I'd say to try a 30E. However, it's not an exact science as you know and if you're wearing a 32DD and have no bulges etc etc then all sounds good to me Grin

Are you wearing the 32 on the loosest hooks?

I certainly know what you mean about scaffolding Wink

Sleepwhenidie · 28/09/2012 19:52

I think tellme has pinpointed part of the issue, different makes and different types of bras fit differently (like dress sizesWink). I am always attracted to balconette styles but 3 dc's in, just don't have enough volume left Blush, i need my boobs pushed together and up - yep, scaffolding - to look good! currently favouring calvin klein cross back bra, pretty and great as i wear lots of racer back tops.

SorrelForbes · 28/09/2012 20:03

Absolutely.

The Freya Deco plunge is pretty good at hoisting and pushing Grin

TellMeLater · 28/09/2012 20:04

I wear the 32d on the tightest hooks, but oddly I wear the 30dd on the loosest but it still digs in....I have very little flesh on my ribs and the underwire digs into my ribs...I need to spread my body fat a bit more evenly...any suggestions Wink

SorrelForbes · 28/09/2012 20:18

Hmmm, if a 30DD is too tight on the loosest then try a 30E. That should be more comfy If you're wearing a 32 on the tightest hooks then I do feel it's probably too big for you. All do dependant on style on make of course. A 30E or F would feel much too tight in the back for me but a 30g is fine.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 28/09/2012 20:46

Glad to see another recommendation for John Lewis. I agree, the fitters are motherly and discreet - perfect for young girls - and retire outside the cubicle while the customer puts the bra on. DD doesn't know any other way to buy a bra! Grin
< still bitter about wearing auntie's old bras during formative years >

TellMeLater · 28/09/2012 20:54

But sorrel the cups on the 30dd are already too big! Any bigger in cup size would be silly, no?
