I want to buy Uggs but I don't know where to start

Can anyone advise me?

I have finally embraced skinny jeans this sumemr, and I am going to wear them into winter too. So I'd like to buy some Uggs.

My aim is to buy ones that stay looking smart - I don't want water stains, and I'd like them to stay looking clean.

Any recommendations as to the colour and material to get? I would like dark grey ones, as they go with everything. And any recommendations on whether to spray protector spray on them, and if so, which one? Or do they not need this?

And finally, is there anywhere that sells them cheapest?

I would get Emus. The more expensive 'proper' ones last years and keep their shape. The cheaper ones don't so much.

ruby22 · 25/09/2012 13:12

I bought some Uggs in the US 5 years ago when the rate was $2 to a £, they are still going and have lasted but in last year or 2 just been worn around the house. I used waterproof spray on them and mostly tried not to wear them out in wet weather or predicted wet weather. They still look in good condition. I also had a black pair of cheapie ones from next and they got trashed within one year. Agree with the above, if you're going to get them buy a good brand, there is also a NZ brand who are supposed to be good, sorry can't remember the name.

TheBirdsTheBirds · 25/09/2012 13:13

If you want to buy Ugg type boots that you can actually wear out and about and that are waterproof, have a look at Celtic Sheepskin - I've never bought any but they look like proper useful sheepskin boots rather than flimsy, overpriced Ugg-brand Uggs.

Cherrypie32 · 25/09/2012 13:19

I would like to try Celtic Sheepskin too. I have several pairs of real Uggs but think the quality generally getting worse since 1st pair 5 years ago. I also have 1 pair of Emu boots which are fine but went very baggy so would size down if bought again. I just bought DD some Celtic Sheepskin boots and they are gorgeous, look like they will stand up better to everyday wear than Uggs.
Overall, do not buy Uggs from a random site online or on EBay, if they are £60 or so they will be Chinese fakes. Expect to pay £120 or so for the real thing no matter what.

TheBirdsTheBirds · 25/09/2012 13:32

Yes - if you are near a Kurt Geiger or Schuh or similar good shoe shop, best to go in and pay full price for a pair you've checked out yourself. The market is flooded with fakes.

TheBirdsTheBirds · 25/09/2012 13:33

I looked at a pair of standard short Uggs in Kurt Geiger the other day and they were £165 - rather a lot for what is basically a pair of slippers...

monkeyfacegrace · 25/09/2012 13:37

Nonono, go to mandmdirect.com. They currently have 6 or 7 styles, all at half price and guarenteed real as its a big website.
There are some gorgeous tall studded ones for £140! Ive ordered 4 pairs Grin

paddingtonbear1 · 25/09/2012 13:42

I've had a black pair from Kiwi Sheepskins, they were fab, lasted years.
I might try them again, or go for Celtic Sheepskin next time. Not keen on the Deckers Uggs - they don't suit me so well and are a bit pricey for what they are.

HappyAsEyeAm · 26/09/2012 11:32

Thanks for the advice. I'm not fussy about the brand, I'm more keen on getting a style and fit that suits me, so I will try Emu and Celtic Sheepskin.

Celtic sheepskin are very good and uk made. Have had real uggs and Celtic uggs. Celtic much better in terms of quality and fit. There was a promo code around SLA12 i think, not sure if it is still working but gets 20% off

worldgonecrazy · 26/09/2012 11:42

Celtic Sheepskin are fabulous, plus you can get them refurbished for less than £40 if they do get knackered in a few years. They're also made in England so you're supporting the British economy, not Chinese sweatshops.

My DD has a pair of their children's boots and despite her boisterousness and tree climbing adventures, they're still looking good. OH is buying me a grown up pair for Christmas.

bonzo77 · 26/09/2012 11:49

DH just got me some ugg kensingtons in black. They're like biker boots and made of leather rather than suede. Proper thick rubber soles too. Blush and Shock and slightly Envy(that's green because I feel a but sick) at the price but I luff them and won't take them off.

Freshletticiaandslugs · 26/09/2012 13:02

Celtic Sheepskin!!
They are fab.
I just got a calf-length grey pair of celt boots for £99 and am sending my dark brown popper boots back this week to them for the second time for new soles and mending. Brilliant, helpful company and British. The soles are better than Uggs, they are way cheaper and you can get waterproof ones. I spray mine with nikwax suede/nubuck waterproofer and have no problems.

Tuttutitlookslikerain · 26/09/2012 13:08

I've got grey Uggs that I have had for a few years. They have lasted really well, but I can't walk unaided and any distance I have to go in my wheelchair, so it is not surprising really!

I've just ordered some Celtic Sheepskin ones that I have had my eye on for a while. I couldn't make up my mind between more Uggs, or the Celtic ones, but when the code was on here I chose the Celtic sheepskin ones.

I can't wait for them to be delivered now.

teacher123 · 26/09/2012 13:46

EMU boots are brilliant and they sell them at Jones the bootmaker and they go to half price in their sale each year! I've had two pairs of black ankle boots and I love them, I think I got them for £65 instead of £130.

popcal · 26/09/2012 14:00

Have a look on amazon at Emu boots- got lo stingers in chocolate for 77 pounds last week.

JulesJules · 26/09/2012 15:46

I'm a Celtic Sheepskin fan too. I've got a pair and my daughters have had them since they were little and they last really well, still in good shape to be handed down after a lot of wear from two girls. And they are GORGEOUS. They have had the mini toscana boots with a furry top and the plain boots which come in lots of different colours, dd2 just got a new pair of purple ones for her birthday.

Highly recommended.

filetheflightoffancy · 26/09/2012 16:10

Ooooh, can I ask a question about Celtic Sheepskin? Have just been looking at the website as I think this is the winter I am finally going to have to give up on my wonderful 'just sheepskin' uggs that have lasted for ages!

Which is the best length to get of the Celtic Sheepskin? I dont want the ankle ones, but there seems to be two sizes between that and the knee length ones (regular and calf length?). Also I have quite short and fat legs and calves, how snug are they, will I be able to get them on my legs?!

HollaAtMeBaby · 26/09/2012 16:52

EMU stingers are the way forward! They have some kind of anti-watermarking coating on them, I think.

If it must be Uggs, look here first: MSE Ugg boots page

Itsgottabebags · 26/09/2012 18:03

Look in TK Maxx for Uggs as they have had them in for a few weeks in my branch.

I bought some Emu's from TK Maxx and didn't find the quality to be as good as Uggs. Not bad for the price (around forty quid) but given the fact they lasted me about a year and the Uggs are going on for two plus years then I would not pay full price for the Emu's.

Jaeme · 27/09/2012 00:54

Soletrader Outlet has some uggs on sale online just now, they had a few different styles of sheepskin boots and some of the cardi boots too.

janji · 27/09/2012 02:10

Love emu and celtic sheepskin. Free delivery code until oct 1st at celtic: AU1211

janji · 27/09/2012 02:10

Sorry, AU1211

sleeplessinsuburbia · 27/09/2012 02:21

Emu stingers. About to get my second pair!

busyboysmum · 27/09/2012 08:49

I have the Ugg Kensingtons in black - got them through Kurt Geiger with a 25% off code 2 or 3 years ago when they were first in. I have worn them constantly through each winter and they are as good as new really. I am wearing them now in the house as they keep my feet toasty. When we went to the caravan show last year some bloke waterproofed them for me with some wax stuff, free as he was trying to get me to buy the wax which actually is still working just fine.
