Best anti-aging product for face?

I know they probably don't work etc. I'm lucky so far to have no lines or wrinkles at 34, which I realise is a genetic lottery really. But...what are the products that people rate? There are just so many, there is no way I'm going to buy randomly or on the basis of advertising.

I would say keep out of the sun, exfoliate, face yoga, a retin based product (not too strong at your age), take / eat fish oils, and drink water.

Smoking kills your face too. Alcohol does too but I've not managed to kick that one but do drink a lot of water.

I look a very young 45, allegedly.

Retinoic acid ie tretinoin or Retin-A (which is a brand name for tretinoin) is the only scientifically proven product that works for anti-ageing.

It works by speeding up skin cell turnover and encouraging the production of collagen, quite literally making the skin act and therefore look younger.

The reason the Boots Protect and Perfect range was proven to work was because it had small amounts of a retinoid in it. However not enough to make anything but the tiniest of differences over a long period of time.

You cannot buy tretinoin in this country without a script. And a decent GP will not prescribe it to anyone unless they are suffering moderate to severe acne (it was originally intended as a treatment for acne but doctors noticed over time that their patients were starting to look younger as a result of using it too!)

However, there are countries where you can buy it over the counter. And as a result you can buy it online. Reputable brands include: Retin-A, Renova, Atralin, Stieva-A, and Retino-A. Percentages start from 0.25% tretinoin to 0.5% to 1%.

However, and it is a big HOWEVER. Medical grade tretinoin is an extremely powerful drug. Used irresponsibly the side effects can be drastic and include redness, peeling, soreness, and cracking. What you absolutely MUST do with this stuff is go slow. Read the instructions on how to use it properly and take them seriously. Sunscreen everyday, rain or shine is a must. And those who are pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or breastfeeding should not use it.

I'm perfectly happy to give anyone comprehensive instructions on how to use it properly so as to mitigate side effects as much as possible (although some period of adjustment is inevitable) but I won't do it here as it will make my post stupidly long).

HTH

Hmmm.
I'm not convinced. One woman doth not a clinical trial make.
And, If only it were so easy.....

Also, if you're drinking that volume of water a day, you will literally have to manage your life around toilet stops.

Ok if you're just at home perhaps, but if you have a long commute, travel around a lot for work, have a very busy job where you're on your feet all day...

It's just not practical.

IMVHO 3 litres of water a day is excessive. 2 or 3 pints of water a day on top of a few cups of herbal/green/or even normal tea and a glass or so of juice is plenty of fluid and enough to keep your system ticking along nicely.

Rosehip oil at night (prefer evening primrose oil, but I've got some rosehip oil to use up) and Innovative Skincare Instant Smoothing Gel first thing in the morning. The latter product is the first in years that allows me to go make-up free for all but special occasions.

AmelieinOz · 22/06/2015 22:42

Tretinoin

Injectable human growth hormone? Oh yes, just the thoroughly sensible kind of purchase the internet was made for!
