I am looking at myjumper in despair. I coveted a sparkly V-neck boxy jumper from the White Company for ages but could not being myself to spend £85 on it. Saw one on Ebay and somehow (was I insane? drunk?) ended up in a bit of a bidding war and paid £55 for it. Tried to see it as a bargain (really, £55 is not exactly a giveaway, is it?), but...

Ten minutes after I'd worn it for the first time I had four giant pulls in it as the cat jumped on top of me, and it would appear to be made of the type of fabric that pulls and catches like buggery if you so much as look at it the wrong way. Got several more catches in it that same night just with my nails.

The second time I wore it I spilled mustard all down the front. Of course it's a hand-wash-in-cold-water-only garment, because of the shape and the sparkly bits. And you're not allowed to rub it. Or put Vanish on it. Or wring it out. Or dry clean it. Soaked it in cold water. Did the stain come out? No. Tried again in warm water. Still there.

So I am now looking down at my lovely £55 jumper that I have worn twice and that is covered in pulls and has indelible mustard stains on the front. Marvellous. Naturally things I have bought off Ebay that cost a tenth of that are still going strong. Would anyone like to make me feel better by confessing similar expensive wardobe errors?

I bought a similar top from Joseph, over £100, and the fucking thing catches on everything and pulls.

I have shrunk not one but two very expensive Brora jumpers in my time by putting them on a 40 degree wash instead of a cold gentle wash Blush

bishboschone · 11/09/2012 18:20

Put some vanish on it and put it on a wool wash

lurkingfromhome · 11/09/2012 18:23

Thanks, bishboschone, I have nothing to lose as I can't exactly wear the effing thing out of the house so will give it a try!

I bought a cashmere cardigan from M&S (thank god not Brora :o) and DD1 put it in the wash.
It was my fault as it was in my washing basket, but... :( It then had a slight greyish tinge to it, had material bobbling all over it and strings of wool dangling at random.
Boo.

bishboschone · 11/09/2012 18:37

Exactly .. If you can't wear it you have nothing to lose Smile if it shrinks out it on eBay again as a size smaller Grin

busyboysmum · 11/09/2012 18:39

Hubby once bought me a suede skirt from Jigsaw for Christmas - lovely I said and wore it on Christmas day. We then went to the sale on Boxing Day where I saw it reduced from 300 to 150 - (and I am a car boot sale bargains kind of gal!) If I hadn't worn it I could have returned it and bought it back again and been 150 up!!! This still annoys me now and hubby is now banned from spending such a rediculous amount on me ever again.

Prada shoes, new from boutique, worn twice in 10 years
Evening dress, never worn, never was and never will be size 8
Chie Mihara shoes, eBay, 1/2 size too small and too pretty and delicate for stretching
Wolford tights, laddered during first wear
Anything by Vaness Bruno Athé - poor materials, pulls immediately
Burberry dress - accidentally shrunk
Favorite wool sweater, accidentally boiled
Olive oil stains on silk shirts, acquired during first day of wear

Won't continue the list... It would be far too long and depressing

almapudden · 11/09/2012 18:44

I had a gorgeous maroon woollen jumper, I loved it. Cost about £70 when I'd just graduated and was skint. I put it in a 40 degree wash and shrank it :(

rosieposey · 11/09/2012 18:46

Two Chloe bags (one silverado, one paddington) bought by DH on the first and second Christmas we were together. I coveted them so much and when it came to it hardly used them because they were both heavy and uncomfortable to use on a daily basis.

They now reside in the top of my wardrobe Hmm i wish i had asked for new sofas - same money but lots more wear!

lurkingfromhome · 11/09/2012 18:50

Really, I am feeling so much better now Grin

A Sportmax brown and cream tweed coat. Vile. I can't bear to look at it and it was nearly ?500.

otchayaniye · 11/09/2012 19:18

my mother put my wedding dress (rita vestenius) in the washing machine and it came out looking like a dog chew.

otchayaniye · 11/09/2012 19:21

and i bought a bruno cucinelli cashmerebjumper and my singaporean cat found it, lunged at it and shredded the thing doing that crazed back leg kicking thing. sheee-yeeet, as clay davis might say

suburbandweller · 11/09/2012 21:30

A red silk Milly cocktail dress which I spilled olive oil down the first time I wore it - I made the mistake of dabbing at it with some kitchen roll instead of saving it for the drycleaner and it now has a faded patch on the front.

A pair of beautiful purple Sergio Rossi pumps which are so high I can hardly walk in them. Can only wear them if I plan on standing in one place all evening.

A pair of Pedro Garcia platform pumps which I just can't keep on my feet when I walk. Again, fine if I stay in the same place while wearing them.

A Burberry Prorsum coat which I bought from the Outnet as it seemed like too good a bargain to miss. I was 8 months pregnant at the time and thought it would be perfect when I went back to work based on how it fit then. Of course it's far too big but I feel I have to wear it as it was so expensive - thank goodness it wasn't full price!

Lovely versatile jimmy chop shoes. Put onto the deck for some (probably drunken) reason one night and forgotten about - during which time we had three weeks of snow. I was very Angry with myself.

Glittertwins · 11/09/2012 21:38

I've put a lovely grey Armani top in the wrong temperature wash as well. My 4 DD would struggle to get into it :-(

bulletwithbutterflywings · 11/09/2012 21:46

Rosieposie would you be willing to sell me one of your bags?

DolomitesDonkey · 11/09/2012 21:54

CD moisuriser (totale) - 100 euros, gave me acne.

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 11/09/2012 22:06

2 pairs of Jimmy Choo heels - never worn
1 pair of Gucci sandals worn once and had to walk through gravel which knackered the heels and soles

I need to stop buying expensive shoes Blush

Loveleopardprint · 11/09/2012 22:14

Jimmy Choo boots. Worn once. Too high for my poor old knees. Really need to eBay them. They are hidden under the bed as I can't bear looking at them ... Oh the guilt.

madmomma · 11/09/2012 22:21

hideously expensive leather knee boots torn on 1st outing by an escalator
cashmere put in the dryer Shock
dh let dd 14 put a wash on yesterday so now my new Isabella Oliver jeans which I recently bought for £90 are now too small
beautiful dream coat left in restaurant + subsequently nicked

too many more to list

FunnysInLaJardin · 11/09/2012 22:25

lovely Whistles white linen top. The satin patches under the arms went yellow at the first wash. It looked like I had sweat stains. So cue loads of bleach which made it worse. Then a black dye which was fine until the satin patches started to rip due to the bleach. I have officially GIVEN UP
