Wellies for fat legs!

LoosingBattle · 06/09/2012 19:53

Need a decent pair of wellies for walking the dog. Daily use so must be comfy and preferably not an outrageous colour! Have got fat calves so need to be wide at the top as want to wear skinny jeans underneath. Too much to ask? Tried on loads today but nothing fitted the bill. :( Help?!

Best I could do last winter was the shorter ones from Peacocks :/

workshy · 06/09/2012 19:55

have you looked on the Simply Be website?

they do wellies :)

VivaLeBeaver · 06/09/2012 19:56

I have the same problem and after numerous posh, fancy, leaky wellies I now have short dunlops. They don't leak, good grip and are cheap.

here

BedHog · 06/09/2012 19:56

What size are your feet? Mens footwear in general tends to be slightly wider, so if you're a size 6 or above then mens wellies might fit better.

LoosingBattle · 06/09/2012 20:02

Am a size seven so mens would be a possibility I guess, kinda wanted something a wee bit stylish...but comfort is the most important thing - the dog doesn't care what I look like!

SimplyBe website looks good, would rather try them on though if possible.

Need to be long if last years snow is anything to go by! Have got a pair of cheapies from Sainsbury's at the moment, fit great at the top but sooo uncomfy and very thin soles.

If you have the budget, you could look at Dubarry's. They do an extra fit boot.

MrsPnut · 06/09/2012 20:12

I have these www.hunter-boot.com/original-adjustable/red but I didn't pay anywhere near that price.

I have really big calves (47cm) and these fit fine if a bit of a squeeze with my jeans on.

Lonecatwithkitten · 06/09/2012 20:14

Huntress wellies are wider in the calf and last really well.

mummadeville · 06/09/2012 20:14

Wedge Wellies do different size calves. Sorry I can't link I'm on my phone

LoosingBattle · 06/09/2012 20:16

I tried on Huntress (or something) boots in Schuh today, assistant said they were the widest they did. Fitted but don't think they would have with jeans, planning to go back with said jeans on.

LoosingBattle · 06/09/2012 20:21

45cm. Sounds like the hunter ones might be okay with jeans then, are they worth the money?

Will have a look at wedge wellies now.

I could do with some of these wellies too. I thought I would measure my calves too, and nearly gave myself a heart attack when it said 67cm Shock

Then I realised I was using the wrong end of the tape measure Blush

AndiMac · 06/09/2012 20:30

Short hunters fit my muscular (that's what they are, not fat and this is not open to further discussion) calves quite well. The long ones weren't comfortable, but the short ones are.

MrsPnut · 06/09/2012 20:36

I think they are, I've worn mine loads and I've had them for more than 2 years. They are still going strong and we are the Hunter family :o

LoosingBattle · 06/09/2012 20:40

love that website charliefox but not the boots...

Amazon are doing the Huntress for £61 which is quite reasonable? Think they were £85 in Schuh.

OP posts:
MrsPnut · 06/09/2012 20:46

The huntress ones aren't as wide as the adjustable ones, but it's a good price.

mummybookworm · 06/09/2012 20:48

I got some cheap Dunlop ones off the Internet. Will try and find site and link.

Loveleopardprint · 06/09/2012 20:50

I found huntress baggy around ankles but still tight on the calf. Sad

LoosingBattle · 06/09/2012 20:58

Yes, leopardprint thats what I felt today trying them on. :( Who would have thought it would be so difficult to buy a pair of wellies?! Shouldn't even be thinking about wellies in September but have worn them most of the "summer" as weather has been so crap.

(as a side note, anyone with fat muscular calves that is looking for winter boots, I got these last year and they are the comfiest boots ever but not good for muddy puddles sadly)

mummybookworm they are very practical (my Mum said to me today that I should "just get a pair of good old dunlops" and probably a good choice...but am I really too fat for anything with a little bit of style?! Grin

mummybookworm · 06/09/2012 21:06

Sorry Loosing

I rarely wear mine (bought mainly for snow occurrences), so I wasn't fussed about stylish ones. Plus I was skintight at the time.

mummybookworm · 06/09/2012 21:08

Arf at skintight!

skint
