What are wearing/buying this autumn?

My Boden delivery has arrived and I am over the moon!

Thank you Twiggy for the twist front top suggestion , it fits beautifully and like you I'm going straight back to order another colour!

Mamijacacalys - the velvet trim top is perfect too!

Bye bye Pepperberry, it's Boden all the way for me now!

KatieMorag · 11/09/2012 16:13

Success! Smile

Sonotkylie · 11/09/2012 16:26

I know I know - said it was last resort for grown ups ... In so many ways!
And blast you all for making me link - serves you right if it fails ...
www.landsend.co.uk/Women%27s-Milano-Knit-Blazer/P_23229,en_GB,pd.html.
If it fails, its in the Top 10 styles for autumn bit on the women's page on the UK website. Do NOT attempt the US one, its worse (and hideously Per Una)

gregssausageroll · 11/09/2012 18:05

How was the sizing angels? I think I might order a couple too.

OP posts:
TwiggysGoneOnHolidayByMistake · 11/09/2012 18:25

Angels, yay! Glad you like the top.

sssshhh, don't tell (am spending too much money!) but I've just ordered this Lands End dress, thanks to the reccomendation for cowl necks.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 11/09/2012 19:07

Greggs - the twist top was a lovely snug ( in a good way!) fit. I'm a 34gg and would be a size 12 if it wasn't for my boobs do ordered a 14.

Usually if I order a 14 it will be too tight on boobs and baggy everywhere else but this was perfect.

The velvet trim top, again in a 14 was looser everywhere so I may even have got away with a 12 - but as a casual top it's nice to be a bit more relaxed in fit.

Twiggy , The Lands End dress is almost the same as one I own from Pepperberry ( mine is beige and it's one of my favourites). I'd have loved it in a darker colour so let me know how it fits as I'm very tempted!

I always have to size down in cowl necks as they always come up baggy.

gregssausageroll · 11/09/2012 19:16

Great. Thanks. Will order an 18.

Hi can't keep away from a big-boobed thread! (30g here). Just wanted to say this dress arrived today.

The bodice is lovely but I'm not sure whether to keep it as I've tipped the balance from curvy to portly over the hols and don't think I'll feel confident in something quite so clingy around my tum and I refuse to order the next size up. Plus it's a few inches above the knee on me - again, would be fine in thinner times but probably not atm.

Anyway, I present it for anyone looking for an evening-type dress. Smile

Dollydowser · 12/09/2012 08:34

Perfect neckline on that dress Shotgun. I have never had success with any Great Plains clothes myself though. Go for the next size up if you like it, nobody else knows the number on the tag. I not only have trouble with finding stuff to fit, but since hitting forty my beloved black no longer suits me either! Now I sound really frumpy, but navy is my friend Grin

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 12/09/2012 08:48

Oh, I'm with you on the navy. Might try the 14, but tbh the12 was already a bit gapey above the armpits - plus it would no doubt show my bra.
Know what you mean qbout GP - I rarely keep anything I order from them.

Kettlewell Colours have some useful-shaped tops and cardis.

Dollydowser · 12/09/2012 11:42

Yes I have a few things from Kettlewell too! I like that they group the colour according to your season, I can see I'm a summer (not sure about the warm/cool bit though that others talk about). I have the navy lace dress from Pepperberry's summer range. It is lovely, but very dressy. Definitely not one for a night out with the girls. I'm hoping the colour block dress I've ordered from Boden will do the job.

NickECave · 12/09/2012 12:09

Loving this thread. I'm 38, a 30g and barely 5 foot so look ridiculously top-heavy. I had quite small boobs until my mid-20s and still haven't adjusted to the shape I am now. I had a revelation with cowl necks after buying a summer dress from White Stuff in the January sales. Not quite sure how this neck line minimises so well but it really does! Unfortunately, IME the only thing that really helps with massive top heaviness in shorties like me is heels which aren't compatible with chasing a mad 2 year old on her scooter!

Dollydowser · 12/09/2012 12:52

Agree Nick with the heels, I resort to wedges a lot as they are so comfy, but always proper heels for going out. Platforms are a good look for me, sort of balancing me out .

Talking of shoes, I quite fancy some shoes for the in between weather, when I start wearing tights again but its not quite cold enough for boots (like today, I'm frozen!) How about the ballet pumps with brothel creeper soles, maybe like these or this sort of thing?

NickECave · 12/09/2012 13:02

Definitely with you on the wedges and platforms Dolly! I have a great pair of knee high platform boots from Aldo which give me much needed inches. I've had them about 4 years and hope they keep going for ever!

Dollydowser · 12/09/2012 13:11

My knee high platforms are from Duo, another must as I have big calves too . Its expensive being curvy! Bras, boots, clothes, I don't seem to be able to get away with anything cheap and cheerful. And I like handbags too...

Do you think these are a bit OTT? Not quite sure what they will go with, but the black are out of stock!

NoMoreFrump · 12/09/2012 13:13

I'm so glad I've found this thread. I'm 43 with 34gg's and a size 14/16 and I have realised that my wardrobe is pretty dire. I recently got back from my holidays and thought I looked OK, but on seeing the photographic evidence I look fat, frumpy and middle-aged. So I have come to the conclusion I need help to 'get with the programme!' and start dressing a bit more fashionably to suit my figure/boobs. Loving the links to flattering clothes but, tbh, some of the prices are a bit eye-watering. Any suggestions for fashionable/flattering clothes that aren't quite so pricey? I need to start with the basics and get some good pieces together that I can mix and match. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated Smile

Dollydowser · 12/09/2012 13:31

The more the merrier Nomorefrump. Unfortunately I can't help with cheaper options, but hope someone comes along with some! I think cheaper brands tend to be skimpier on the cut, and also designed for the younger market who they assume to be less curvy, and the dearer brands for the slightly older market?

I justify buying something more expensive because when I eventually buy something that fits/flatters, its an investment, cost per wear etc. And it doesn't happen very often, I don't have many clothes in my wardrobe.

TwiggysGoneOnHolidayByMistake · 12/09/2012 13:47

There are always codes for money off - I always get 20% off Boden and IO think I got 15% off LandsEnd. They are still pricey though, I know.

NoMoreFrump · 12/09/2012 14:29

Yes, I know what you mean Dolly, it's just that I have a tight budget and somehow feel that I'm being a bit cheeky if I spend too much on myself. No problem spending it on the kids though Hmm

I'll look out for the codes, Twiggy, thanks.

AndiMac · 12/09/2012 14:52

I bought some quite flattering t-shirts at Asda of all places! I wanted some colourful t-shirts to do some crafting designs and decided I'd rather spend only a few pounds on a cheap shirt in case they didn't turn out.

They are 100% cotton with a flattering scoop neckline and only £4 or so. Good for layering under a cardigan. Can't see them on their website, probably because they are so basic and cheap! I'll try and post a picture later.

AndiMac · 12/09/2012 18:10

I've uploaded 2 pictures to my profile of the one I just bought. I bought one at the beginning of summer that is in more of a turquoise shade and it's held up really well for the £3 I paid for it! (By the way it's very hard to take a picture of one's cleavage while holding an iPad.)

It's not online, but worth a look in shop for that price.

Dollydowser · 12/09/2012 18:39

That is a good neckline AndiMac. If you go again to Asda can you report back if they have a long sleeve (not cropped!) version for winter?

Dollydowser · 21/09/2012 08:20

Sorry, need to resurrect this thread as I seriously have No Clothes. I lost 2 stone last winter and sold all my clothes, now have put weight back on (sob) and have nothing to wear. So I am left with the blue Boden dress, I have boots, tights, and nothing else! I need casual, not office clothes.

On my wish list is
skirts, straight or A line, knee length, side or back zip.
Tops with long sleeves, scoop neck or sweetheart.
cardigans with only a few buttons at the waist to create a deep V
Blazer with one button with a lapel that doesn't uncurl across the bust

and any other suggestion for short dumpy hourglass. Please Sad

trixymalixy · 21/09/2012 08:49

I'm looking for a shirt that doesn't gape at the front. I'm a 32H. I like the printed ones that are about atm, but even a plain silk one would do. I've looked on the pepperberry website, but didn't like any.

I've tried on loads in the shops, but all gapey so far. Can anyone recommend any before I give up?

Dollydowser · 21/09/2012 09:57

Biubiu do some work type shirts, not silk but nice colours. I have seen them reviewed on blogs and FB by various people who were all delighted with them.
