Do you tuck?

I see that to tuck in your shirt is the done thing these days and if you are a fashionista you do the semi tuck. Do you think that a super flat tummy is essential or could I get away with it with a mini muffin?

I'd link but I find they don't ever work when I'm on my iPad.

I thought I'd report back that today I have lost my tuck cherry (well in this century anyway). On the school run I had so many 'ooh don't you look slim' comments it became a bit embarrassing. I have embraced the tuck but now have a new essential wardrobe item ie. a great belt.

I tuck into anything highwaisted. Also semi-tuck T-shirts and shirts into skinny jeans sometimes because otherwise the hem falls on my thigh at a v. unflattering length.

I need a belt too. Am very pleased with the vest tuck technique as it means I don't get a bunch of fabric on my waist.

sweetheart · 04/09/2012 15:31

I would love to tuck and dispite having quite a small waist it is quite high so when i tuck all that hangs out are my lower love handles which is not a good look!

scripsi · 04/09/2012 15:37

sweetheart that's the beauty of the vest tuck - you can tuck lower!

sweetheart · 04/09/2012 15:43

I haven't read the whole thread Blush no idea what a vest tuck is.

MrsHelsBels74 · 04/09/2012 15:45

I never tuck.

Peggotty · 04/09/2012 16:08

So do you think apples just couldn't get away with a tuck? I like the idea if it and have lost a lot of weight recently but still don't have much of a waist. Is a waist essential?!?

NotMostPeople · 04/09/2012 16:18

Peggoty - I was completely waistless before I lost my bit of weight and I now have one, but didn't realise as I was so used to be an oblong. The tuck might help, but if you aren't going for the vest tuck a good belt is essential, my mini muffin didn't look great until I put a belt onto my jeans and somehow it's gone.

Great tucking tips!

Mrs CB - tell us Wendy's backstory

(hoping that the story is that she used to be a clumsy size 12/14, who could not walk in heels and had frizzy hair and that there is hope.....)

headfairy · 04/09/2012 22:50

I occasionally do a front tuck... Depends if I'm on a fat day or not.

CointreauVersial · 04/09/2012 23:29

Loving the vest tuck idea - my good old Primark nude cami is nice and snappy and would hold a hem beautifully. I will give it a try.

But I'm not sure about the "half in half out" thing - the Zara website is full of this, and it just looks a bit slobby on a 45 year-old.

trixymalixy · 04/09/2012 23:33

The things you learn on Mumsnet! I will be trying the vest tuck tomorrow.

MrsCampbellBlack · 05/09/2012 05:56

Wendy spent a lot of time in care as a child and now does a lot of work with fostering services - so pretty insipiring.

regnamechange · 05/09/2012 07:40

Oh I like. I follow Wendy's blog... How did I miss the videos!

libertychick · 05/09/2012 11:27

Thanks Mrs CB - that is impressive.
Interestingly my work remit includes some responsibilities for children in care so I will add her blog to my list of links as its great to have examples of different role models for children. I'm glad I asked.

ToastedTeacakes · 05/09/2012 23:26

I tuck, mostly at the front with the back left loose if a casual shirt or blouse.

I find that tucking, if the pants/jeans are low-ish rise, makes the legs look longer. Leaving things untucked (ie, at top thigh level) seems to make me appear squat.
