Winter coats for dc

Where are you buying/ bought coats for your dc this winter?

both of mine need new coats as ds' green parka will still be too big for dd this year as she hasn't grown anywhere near as much as he did. Hmm

i'm looking for warm, waterproof, machine washable.

ds will need a 4 or maybe 4-5yo size (he's 3.5). dd will need a 18-24mo as she's average height (but has diddy arms).

is boden worth the money?

i'm not very impressed with what i've seen in next or m&s but i think there will probably be more in shops soon.

where would you get your dc's coats?

ski anoraks from Trepass or regatta - waterproof and padded.

Style zero
Practicallity, 100%

We don't go ski-ing I should emphasise.

When they were younger I did get the Gap down-filled jackets, they are absolutely lovely soft and toasty but after the 2 snowy winters I prefer something waterproof.

My dd's have Boden coats, dd1 has worn one for 2 years and now dd2 is wearing it, they are worth the money (unlike Boden PJ's), have also found BHS coats are good.

h&m coats also look good Smile.

LittleBarnOwl · 03/09/2012 20:04

Oh yes, waterproof is most important, so wet here this year that the DC's would be in danger of rotting without a good waterproof coat.

anchovies - not quite small enough for the ones on vikingkids (she's 5.5) but thanks. Found another one though - just tossing up between that and H&M again.

vesela · 03/09/2012 21:23

OK - have just ordered a Didriksons Jesse, which seems to be like the Camden but without the fur trim which I didn't want anyway. Lovely deep red colour. I ordered the 130cm, to last two winters - DD is about 115 now. I'm hoping she won't be swimming in it.

Whenisitmysleepytime · 03/09/2012 21:52

What are the Didrikson sizes like?
I can't find a big enough one for ds - he needs a 4-5 I think.
Dd will be 18mo by winter. Do I get a 2-3? Confused

WIIMST - there are some good Jesse sets for children that age on sale. Not sure how the sizing is, though.

anchovies · 04/09/2012 13:16

The sizing is true to their actual height for example my dd is 97cm so I ordered her a 100cm, ds is 8 but 140cm, fits the 140 cm 9-10 coat. Does that make any sense at all?!!

daisydoodoo · 04/09/2012 13:34

after a trip into town dd1 (6) begged for this coat, so we brought it and boden/joules going back (for now) it seems really warm, but lightweight. far too warm for now. also claims to be waterproof and windproof as well. they have a few designs and plain ones in the boys section as well.

Vesela - where are they? I'm probably being thick but can't see them. They'd have to be an excellent bargain as he really won't need the trousers. :)

It was
here, but I thought I'd seen a 4-5 there and there isn't - sorry!

Could be useful though for someone who needs a 2-3 or a 3-4 and needs trousers too...

Whenisitmysleepytime · 04/09/2012 20:50

aw thanks for looking!

i am STILL umming and ahing about getting them didriksons coats. i can get dd a small one in the sale but i can't find one in ds' size that isn't the best part of £60. is it worth it?

I know it isn't really very mn but I love Sports Direct for children's coats - warm and practical and easy on the purse.

Like this, or this, or this.

DS (nearly 13 yo) has an M&S Stormwear coat for winter.
He wears a blazer for school so I bought him a Trespass waterproof (13-14 they come up a bit small).
He did have a 3-in-1 but doesn't need the extra lining and won't wear a 'fat' coat Hmm He's whippet thin IRL.

DD has a lovely M&S Stormwear from last year that still fits her plus a Regatta waterproof.
