Diamond and ? rings. What would you want? Help me choose?

I need to replace a ring, I have a sapphire and diamond target ring that is now too fragile to wear. Short of replacing absolutely everything about it, it's unavoidable.

So I'm going to hide it in a drawer and look at it wistfully. But it means I need a new ring.

I like having diamonds to add a bit of sparkle but like having another stone in there as well. I'm into antique settings and uber modern contemporary out there typey things too.

What would you have/choose?

Lucky you StatisticallyChallenged, what a wonderful DH. I haven't been back, got side tracked in politics section Grrrr

I have been giving away some of my dresses today, to a good cause, for my friend shall go to the ball ! unlike me, I can't remember the last time DP took me anywhere. I usually have to drag him. I will show him the thread and see if guilt might make him open his wallet Wink

Lurking- I'm a big art deco fan as well, but I prefer the kind of swooping long rounded styles rather than the squared off ones.

The diamond fascination is a bit strange. I really don't care what stone is in a ring so long as I love the way it looks. And you can get some faaab moissanite rings!

I am also LOVING the dress. Was a bit worried in first picture as the shoulders looked bulky but gorgeous on. Absolutely the kind of thing that I would just walk past in a shop without a second look but you'd need to fight me to get it off if I tried it on!!

What shoes though?

And do try not to channel the 'Angelina Jolie Leg' too much with that split Wink

Guilt worked for me - he stupidly interpreted "I'm a bit bogged down with studying to really do anything much on our anniversary" as "don't buy me anything, not even a card" Hmm

He won't do that again Wink

mrscumberbatch · 05/09/2012 22:17

Ahahahahaha! Stalker lol. I will. Eventually, when I stop feeling intimidated by shop assistants. (Ridiculous I know!)

Mini, you are the fairy godmother today, hopefully you'll be Cinderella tomorrow and DH will take the hint and you shall go to the ball too! Wink

Gosh yes, you can get fabulous moissanite rings. Can't wait to get mine.

Love the French paste earrings.

StatisticallyChallenged · 05/09/2012 22:22

Ha ha I remember the phantom leg, there were some brilliant photoshops going round! The first picture of the dress is awful, it looks nothing like that in reality - far more drapey and gorgeous. Plus I have big knockers, so it looks more curvy at the top.

Shoes, I may have a few (dozen) pairs. I have some beautiful strappy black dune shoes, but I also have these which may work.

mrscumberbatch · 05/09/2012 22:25

The leg thing was hilarious.

I am liking the sparkly heels... very classy. I am strictly a closed toe shoe gal though, I don't think my feet are particularly ugly but I know that if my toes are out then I'm going to be obsessing over them all night.

(First thing I spy on women on nights out is jewellery, then shoes. If they have dreadful feet hanging out of lovely shoes I can't look them in the eye. I don't know if there's a name for that phobia lol.)

I love the dress, are you tall? I could never wear anything like it, I'm a midget Sad it's lovely a simple and elegant and I think diamonds is perfect with black, it's the contrast isn't it.

I like the first pair, the french paste. Does anyone here think that good quality 50's pieces are worth investing in or will the fad for all things 50's die out? I have a couple of nice brooches that I was given, 50's, very typical of the era and very wearable for every day.

MiniTheMinx · 05/09/2012 22:32

diamonds are perfect, should really look up when I type !

mrscumberbatch · 05/09/2012 22:35

Mini, I think that the fad for all things 1950's will die out, but it won't be long till it's back with vengeance!

Imho, investing in good quality pieces from any era is worth doing. Fashion comes and goes, but personal style is forever.

I've realised that I am quite Edwardian/1920s since looking around inspired by this thread. Also, can I ask whether you think tennis bracelets are still "in". I was thinking of a tennis bracelet in a coloured stone like tanzanite: I want something that reminds me of the sea.

mrscumberbatch · 06/09/2012 22:39

Tennis bracelets are always in.

I think they're part of the 'classy accessories' list which is never fashionable but always stylish. (On there with diamond studs, understated watches, leather gloves, silk scarves and black patent court shoes. They all improve just about any outfit!)

The problem that I have with tanzanite is that its ruddy expensive. If you want something reminiscent of the sea you could get away with quite cheap stones though as I think that the watery pale tanzanite would be perfect for it.

OP posts:
scripsi · 06/09/2012 23:32

Oh good! Yes, tanzanite is pricey but I want something pale blueish and watery (not so lavender) - perhaps even aquamarine if not tanzanite - if that exists in tennis bracelet form.

Also, how loose is most flattering for a tennis bracelet? I have tiny wrists (unlike the rest of me). I am thinking it would be a good idea to emphasise the narrowness of my wrists by having it quite tight, with not too much movement up the arm (which would annoy me: I stopped wearing bracelets when they kept ending up on my elbow).

mrscumberbatch · 07/09/2012 00:01

If a tennis bracelet is too loose then you end up with the catch swivelling around all the time. It's also more likely to get caught on things. If you are getting a tennis bracelet like<a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=xx6&sa=X&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1920&bih=1009&tbm=isch&prmd=imvns&tbnid=cDoYvtLzo64Y2M:&imgrefurl=www.ebay.com/itm/8-Carat-Genuine-Tanzanite-Tennis-Bracelet-Sterling-Silver-7-inch-length-/260896456482&docid=m8Nhxwn3AvnwCM&imgurl=i.ebayimg.com/t/8-Carat-Genuine-Tanzanite-Tennis-Bracelet-Sterling-Silver-7-inch-length-/00/s/NDAwWDUzMw%253D%253D/%2524%28KGrHqIOKnUE64NW%252BMUEBO%29QzmUHUQ~~60_3.JPG&w=533&h=400&ei=xCpJUKTWJ8mu0QWj6YFw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=361&vpy=661&dur=2177&hovh=194&hovw=259&tx=178&ty=67&sig=108565776429953037501&page=1&tbnh=147&tbnw=222&start=0&ndsp=48&ved=1t:429,r:30,s:0,i:168" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this you need to remember that the settings are quite rigid. So if it's too big you'll force it to bend and it will snap.

Tennis bracelets should be fairly tight and worn above the wrist bone. (Not the wrist elbow as I had in my head!)

If you find a good aquamarine one let me know. Sounds right up my alley!
