Is Jo Malone perfume worth it?

I fancy a fragrance splurge. I want something signature.
I've used DKNY be delicious for so long now I can't smell it even when I first put it on.

I want a nice perfume that lasts well but isn't so heavy it gives you a headache. Suitable for everyday wear.

Any suggestions?

I love it, but it doesn't have great staying power. I'm resigned to that and just reapply during the day

I've been using Bluebell recently.
I also have grapefruit, lime basil and mandarine, vevetier and one other that I can't remember off hand.

My sister wears the Gardinia and it is very nice.

I'm torn between the Lavender and Amber, or French Lime Blossom as my next purchase.

I love it. There's a lovely English Pear and Freesia which is good for daytime. I've always found it lasts quite well, which is good on a cost-per-wear basis!

DH bought me 2 bottles for a wedding day present and the woman in the shop helped him choose them as you could wear them alone, or layer them together to make a different smell. They are gorgeous and have lasted really well.

If you go to one of the counters you'll get a lovely hand & arm massage as well, and I've found them to be really helpful.

Thanks for that, a shop has just opened here so will go in and see.
Really want something light and fresh but with lasting smell < wanting the impossible> Smile

The bluebell is lovely and light.
I sometimes layer it with Grapefruit.

Born2bemild · 31/08/2012 23:39

I find it lasts really badly on me. No more than a couple of hours. Might just be me though.

mosschops30 · 31/08/2012 23:40

Oh dear that's no good. Don't want to pay £70 for a perfume that doesn't last.

Any other perfume recommendations?

L'occitane cherry blossom( there are a couple of variations) are really nice, not overly common, fresh scents.. They don't last very long but are relative cheap.

justbogoffnow · 01/09/2012 00:29

Annick Goutal perfumes are beautiful. I wear l'eau d'hadrien, lovely fresh fragrance, great staying power. It's a while since I bought it for myself but think prices are probably comparable to Jo Malone. You'd need to check online for stockists in your area.

Itsgottabebags · 01/09/2012 06:20

Maybe a Chanel one? Not the ones that you can buy in Boots etc but the ones you can only buy in the Chanel boutiques/special makeup departments if that makes sense.

I tried one once and it was nice.

TellMeLater · 01/09/2012 07:40

I love Jo Malone, but I think the smell doesn't hang around for long either.

cybbo · 01/09/2012 07:45

I've heard her fragrances don't last. Style over substance IMO.

Jo Malone perfume are my favorites, i love pomegranate noir and lime basil and mandarin...............

domesticslattern · 01/09/2012 09:19

I wore Jo Malone's nectarine blossom and honey for my wedding. It didn't last and was actually a bit cloying. I chucked it out recently as I never wore it and it had gone off. I did love the look of the bottle though.

DonaAna · 01/09/2012 10:41

No. The colognes are cologne strength, ie, fleeting.

Isn't Jo Malone owned by Estee Lauder these days? (Estee and Tom Ford lines are much better.) Jo Malone scents have a synthetic feel and you can get much better perfumes for the same price. More and more of the new releases aim really low - peonies, plum, lilac, pear - generic candyfloss juice in a cute(sy) bottle, aimed at the mall rat generation.

I really think they are overhyped, overpriced, and, well, over. Diptyque and L'Artisan Parfumeur offer much more distinctive perfumes in roughly the same price bracket. Goutals are also fleeting but much more elegant.

I wore Jo Malone for ages, then in a moment of maudlin wallowing, bought 4711 cologne (Eau De Grandma-That-I-Miss, sobfest), and do you know, despite the initial antiseptic notes, it lasts longer and gives a citric mellow hit- obviously, it doesn't smell of Lime Basil & Mandarin, but at a tenth of the price, with memories included, it feels worth it for the moment.

DonaAna · 01/09/2012 21:07

Snigger, you should also try Dior's Eau Sauvage (on men's side) - you are in for a treat. 4711 is a magnificent classic too. Napoleon was a fan...

Guerlain have a nice range http://www.escentual.com/guerlain/fragrances-for-women/aqua-allegoria/ some of which are here. The one I've got lasts well. There's also one they do called Eau des Fleurs et de Cedrat which is a lemony one.

umiaisha · 01/09/2012 21:56

Bought DP the Oud for his birthday last week. Seems to last a lot longer than the Molten Brown he usually wears and smells gorgeous.
