Curly hair cut short?

I am looking for advice about how to have my hair cut. I have a round face and thick, curly hair. It is currently growing out a rather unfortunate hair cut and looks dreadful. It is chin length, with a couple of layers. The last hairdresser thinned it out thoroughly which I thought was a good idea at the time, but basically after two weeks it started looking very strange. It is just below chin length and is only what could be described as BIG.

I normally use frizz-ease to tame it and then let it dry naturally. I like it curly. (I know, I know).

How would you describe your lovely hair cut?

Just remembered, must have blocked it out due to trauma, I had a disastrous cut with a new stylist about eighteen months ago and he did something to the ends. Sort of snipped them randomly which gave me a Una Stubbs kind of look. Sure if someone sorts your ends out everything else will improve.

By the way, anyone used Casting hair colour in Amber? I am hoping to pay homage to Merida in Brave. Now that is a fantastic head of curls...

Yes I agree, if the stylist has made the ends too wispy then once that's off you'll notice a big difference.

I went for a shorter in back, longer in front with quite a substantial fringe a while back - I straighten my fringe, but after a while it seems to like it that way - the cut has been god for my hair. Have been going to my hairdresser 7 years, he is great, but always insists on straightening it at the end, which is lovely for the swishy walking home factor, but i am never sure what it will really look like till I get home and wash it again after it's gone frizzy about 10 mins later. I am jealous of the proper curls, mine is ringletty and a bit wavy too, but if I brush it just turns into helmet head of frizz.

I use henna evey 4 weeks, which is brill for the colour, lovely deep red, but it does seem to make my hair straighter, which I don't like. I hsve straighter bits on top, a mental curly crown and the ends are curly. Sometimes it is Triangular..

Can someone list some of the conditioners to use for the curly girl technique? I use pantene at the mo, just always have. Also use coconut oil and amla oil ever few weeks, soak my hair in them, one of those towelling turbans and do the hoovering like a mad thing. seems to work. Cheap too!

the ends were chopped in and rather wispy at the sides.

the thing is, my hair is curly if it is treated right, but I can all too easily get rid of the curl by messing with it when wet. So straightening a fringe wouldn't present too much problem.

humphrey I also have curly hair although at the length it is at the moment it's just wavy. However I am possibly shaving it off for charity in a couple of months - gulp! - so will soon be going through a variety of short curly hairstyles. I live in Monmouth and would be really interested in how good the hairdresser you found was and if you would recommend?

Good luck with the cut!

I can totally relate to this guy. My hair's poker straight but I always had the curly heads to do in the salon. Even the curly stylists Smile Doesn't this guy rock?

HumphreyCobbler · 01/09/2012 14:22

I will post back to let you know Chocchip88.

My friend had wavy/curly hair that she shaved off and it grew in REALLY tight corkscrew curls. It was lovely.

CuriousMama, I wish even more that you could cut my hair now.

Aww me too HC. I wish I could go and work with that guy!

Totally unhelpful to you, Humphrey, but I've got to second the recommendation for Pierpoint. I was directed there earlier in the year after 'breaking up' with my regular hairdresser and have been very happy. My hair looks like <a class="break-all" href="//www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=20s+curly+bob&hl=en&client=safari&gl=uk&biw=1299&bih=888&tbm=isch&tbnid=mJKSyfmvdnyEiM:&imgrefurl=homecominghairstyles.onsugar.com/date/2011/1/25%3Fpage%3D1&imgurl=media.onsugar.com/files/2011/03/10/3/1480/14803915/84/curly-bob-hair-in-new-year1.jpg&w=293&h=338&ei=fIBCULGIJeOb0QX18oHoCw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=782&vpy=52&dur=328&hovh=164&hovw=155&tx=93&ty=156&sig=113717608756019635902&page=2&tbnh=164&tbnw=155&start=28&ndsp=36&ved=1t:429,r:26,s:28,i:241" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this.

Shorter at the back and long at the front is definitely the way forward - also try to find someone who cuts your hair dry so they can see the curls all the way through the cut.

that looks lovely ghislaine

Well I had it done and it looks LOVELY Grin

Thanks for the advice, esp CuriousMama. The stylist was brilliant (and had beautiful hair and make up which is always encouraging). She suggested leaving conditioner in my hair, which she did and it left it looking great. She looked really carefully at my hair, held it close to my head and showed me the shape she had in mind and that is what we went for. Basically a curly bob without any hint of square. It has all curled up brilliantly too.

I am really really happy Grin
