Is it just me or is Aerin the most narcissistic brand out there?

Bonsoir stop using the n word - god its the most over-used word in s&b at the moment Wink

I quite like the look of the stuff - had put it in my mental shopping bag but have definitely been swayed by gorgeous spread in US vogue of Aerin reclining on sheepskin throw whilst wearing creamy cashmere and the perfect weekend liptint etc etc. I am a marketer's dream Wink

Bonsoir · 29/08/2012 17:54

I've got another n word - nauseous. I wanted to throw up all over the UK vogue spread on Aerin's new brand! I think she projects the most conspicuous forms of vacuous consumption. So shallow...

I do like though how they portray her as a hard working career woman whose got her own office (you know paid for and funded by Estee Inc).

But, but I quite liked the look of the range - looked some pretty natural'ish colours

Bonsoir · 29/08/2012 20:19

Yeah, she worked her way up from the bottom all through her own hard graft... not.

OP posts:
cahu · 29/08/2012 20:55

Actually I'm surprised it took them so long to market her in this way....

Bonsoir · 29/08/2012 20:56

Perhaps because it is so tasteless that even Estee Lauder inc was reticent?

OP posts:
GobblersKnob · 29/08/2012 20:56

Do they sell the baby cheetahs? I wants one.

MrsCampbellBlack · 29/08/2012 20:59

They sell the seashells I think Wink

And she's ever so clever. Because she's going to change the packaging a bit each season so obviously you'll buy the whole range in the new packaging because heaven forbid there would be mis-matched packaging on one's dressing table.

PacificDogwood · 29/08/2012 21:01

I thought this was going to be a 'baby names' thread Blush

Quite like Aerin...

Bonsoir · 29/08/2012 21:01

My BIL was at HBS with her DH.

Am not attracted to the products of Estee Lauder as a whole. The brand, for me, is inextricably linked with ageing New York City 'social X rays' with their centrifugal face lifts and age spots on wrinkled hands totally out of sync with their smooth shiny doll faces. Estee Lauder seems old, dull and staid.

Nothing against age spots BTW, just their juxtaposition with the faces!

As for Aerin....Same product and contents and with a target audience of Aerin's rich, dilettante society friends (Marguerite Missoni, Eugenie Niarchos, Tattiana Santo Domingo, Lauren Santo Domingo, Tinsley Mortimer et al) with their 'careers' in 'charidee' or 'interior design' etc...

Buy it and you too can live the dream.....

Bonsoir · 29/08/2012 21:07

I agree, the EL brand portfolio is impossibly WASPy and Aerin doesn't seem fresh or modern or innovative... just trying to sell the WASP aspirations to a younger generation.

I can't find the stuff for sale. Only the blog type stuff which says where to go.

But yes ultimate lifestyle brand. Very composed and marketed, no real creative force. (But I'm oddly reminded of Pier One. Only a little bit.)

I saw an article when I had a magazine blow out in the hairdressers recently. But by that point my mind was blank.

MrsCampbellBlack · 29/08/2012 21:10

Its not available until September.

Still think the rose lip balm looked nice and the colours looked good for when I'm playing with my seashells in my cashmere on my sheepskin in my Colorado home.

Bonsoir · 29/08/2012 21:15

I think that the WASPy aspiration thing is still alive and kicking in the US. But I would be surprised if it worked in Europe. Maybe they don't care? Maybe it's for China or India or something?

MrsCampbellBlack · 29/08/2012 21:18

I bet it will do quite well here - its sort of Bobbi Brown'ish but in Cath Kidston packaging.

Bonsoir · 29/08/2012 21:20

I always think of Bobbi Brown as being super-pared down and natural and finding the real you - whereas Aerin seems to be all about superfluous consumption and showing off.

OP posts:
MrsCampbellBlack · 29/08/2012 21:22

You really like her don't you Bonsoir Wink

I think the colours will be BB'ish though - lots of neutrals - it certainly won't be fashion forward.

Bonsoir · 29/08/2012 21:24

Too right, I think she is horrific!

OP posts:
MrsCampbellBlack · 29/08/2012 21:27

So are you loving the Clarins girls - they're all over vogue at the moment

Bonsoir · 29/08/2012 21:31

They are frightful too!

OP posts:
Bonsoir · 29/08/2012 21:32

Of course, I must admit to massive professional bias (loyalty to DP) against perfumery brands Grin

OP posts:
MrsCampbellBlack · 29/08/2012 21:34

The clarins girls don't come across as terribly bright in the interview I read with them. Terribly decorative though.

cybbo · 29/08/2012 21:36

I'd never heard of it

And now I've looked and I can't unknow it again

Bonsoir · 29/08/2012 21:37

I'm so bored of dim-but-decorative girls in cosmetics or fashion businesses.
