Is it just me or is Aerin the most narcissistic brand out there?

Just looks a bit boring really ....

Pinot · 29/08/2012 21:39

I like the packaging but think taking on Bobbi Brown is a mistake.

Bonsoir · 29/08/2012 21:40

Bobbi Brown belongs to Estee Lauder, so I don't think that Aerin is positioned opposite Bobbi Brown.

Neutrals and pared back beauty versus Neutrals and pared back beauty.

Yawn.

Well advertising standards should be onto her for the "Effortless Beauty" tag immediately--that is the most effortful-looking (and expensive-looking) beauty around.

Bonsoir · 29/08/2012 21:43

Yeah, Airbrushed Beauty would be more like it.

She is taking over where her grandmother left out and trying to become an aspirational society figure. You would have to be a fool if you thought that a lipstick is going to turn you into a wealthy Park Avenue heiress, however this is a life many aspire to so they will buy these products. I don't think she appears vacuous though. She is all over interiors magazines/vogue showing off her 'graceful' (overdecorated) homes, she knows how to build a 'brand'.

Bobbi Brown is much more clever imo. She sells herself as an everywoman, is self made, accessible, natural and whether its true or not she seems nice. That is much more attractive to most women than Estee Lauder.

I do think she has nailed her look though.

mindosa · 30/08/2012 09:40

where her grandmother left off !

I'm with those who just don't like the EL brand - has same sort of vibe for me as mignonette described. Dated and garish. Just not classy at all (and of course Liz Hurley was their 'face' for ages - enough said).

Would never buy their products.

Will no doubt take a look at Aerin's stuff but can't see it appealing to me. I like ' natural' / 'non make-up' make-up but am a Bobbi Brown, By Terry, Laura Mercier and Becca fan.

Estee Lauder= Puppies and fields of flowers and Liz 'makes-me-Hurl-ey' and Gwyneth Paltry......blech....

This Aer-Head brand with it's seashells reminds me of that ridiculous India Hicks and her Bahamian 'Island Life' range and subsequent collaboration with Crabtree & Evelyn. Hicks flogged seashells and other seaside flotsam and jettsam. Put me right off Crabtree sadly for their lack of integrity (and they make the most gorgeous Lime scented products ever) with her promotional interviews wittering on about her Colonial House and lifestyle. No self awareness as to the offensiveness of some of her attitudes and lack of discernible talent other than being birthed from an upper class uterus.

The Clarins girls......What to make of? Apparently one is architect trained turned artist. They certainly have got a good publicist because UK and US Vogue worships at their feet, with four page spreads on their Paris apartments, clothes and 'jet set' lifestyle.

Wash your mouth out mignonette! I adore La Hurley Wink

I love all that aspirational lifestyle stuff though - its just sooo pretty.
