Ankle boots, what do I wear them with so they don't look like mum boots?

I'm 5'5" and size 12, but curvy with an arse. Just lost a decent chunk of weight so want to branch out a bit.

I take it that this winter I should be buying some ankle boots. Apart from these super expensive £400 one i hear talk of, which ones should i buy? How high does the heel need to be to look good? What do I wear them with?

I had some red or dead mountain ankle boots, but they look terrible on me and I think Ill flog them on eBay. I couldn't work out how to tuck in the bottom of my jeans. Do I need to buy specific jeans/trousers to fit into the top of ankle boots?

Does the mere mention of mum boot fear, mark me out as a mum booter?

Quite like the FC ones, but black are £140

I might sell the rest of my wardrobe on eBay to be able to afford the Hudson ones.

My skinny jeans are the super skinnies from DP, they are really tight around the ankle. They are really flattering with a flat pump but with ankle boots they can only be tucked in because their is no loose-ness around the ankle to be anything other than tucked in. Does that make sense?

So do I need new skinny jeans?

I just like boots - tend to buy them in the colour they look best in. Some brown shades are horrible, would like some more grey boots, maybe burgundy/red too. The whole ban on black boots with jeans must have been before I started visiting S&B because I have never heard it before and for the record I don't agree! Although, I think black boots tend to look less interesting than other colours.

But the model in the Comptoir pictures has legs like a gazelle. I'd like to see the look pulled off by a woman with human legs too
