What would you pack for 2 weeks in DisneyWorld Orlando?

We'll be going in late November when the temp charts say its likely to be approx 25°C, so warm but not hot. There will be lots of walking so type of shoe is an issue and I'll need a handbag that is a cross body bag because I'll need my hands free.

The guide books and blogs suggest .... .... .... crocs and a bumbag.

This will simply not do! Any wise words to save me from awful footwear and a 'fanypack'?

despite what any temp charts say, its is usually very humid in florida, so factor that in when, choosing outfits.

im going next year and havent been since i was a child so will be watching this thread with intrest. Smile

TaggieCampbellBlack · 25/08/2012 21:58

Gin

Jakadaal · 25/08/2012 22:00

very comfortable shoes!! I did buy crocs Blush and they were great but would most prob now opt for Fit Flops. Look at the croc website as they do sandals and ballerina type flats. They also have crocs shops in the outlet malls out there and are much cheaper.

I had a kipling cross body bag mainly because I carried all the maps, cameras and snacks to keep dc occupied whilst in line etc etc. For the rest I just wore shorts or cropped trousers as it was very hot and humid (we went in October) and it allowed for a bit of grace climbing in and out of the rides. I did take a dressy dresses and they came home unworn

SorrelForbes · 25/08/2012 22:00

Shorts, t-shirts, sun dresses, lightweight cardigans/hoodies, flip flops, sandals

DuckSaysQuack · 25/08/2012 22:06

I'll be damned if I'm doing the <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?hl=en&biw=1024&bih=509&tbm=isch&tbnid=eO1ShoKkJDON_M:&imgrefurl=www.nunemaker.com/&imgurl=www.nunemaker.com/images/FamilyDisney.gif&w=676&h=451&ei=cT05UMaNC8PA0QWpooGgAg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=226&vpy=166&dur=3557&hovh=183&hovw=275&tx=127&ty=99&sig=109128702486392266285&page=4&tbnh=148&tbnw=197&start=37&ndsp=15&ved=1t:429,r:6,s:37,i:215" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">mum shorts with DH in Dad shorts and matching Dad waistcoat-come-vest which is what I think the guidebooks suggest is best!

Crocs would be good for when it pisses down and your feet remain soggy and horrible....I wore birkies, my feet were never sore, the walking isn't anywhere near as much as I expected. Bring shorts, t shirts, rain ponchos - much longer than rain coats for the horizontal rain and a jumper for evenings and air conditioning. People there have no style, they dress for comfort, a man in a collared shirt looks almost over-dressed. I carried a large beach bag and it was fine on all the rides, dcs carried small back packs.

CiderwithBuda · 25/08/2012 22:40

Birkies.
Nice cotton-ish cropped trousers with a t-shirt.
Bag? None. Everything in backpack that DH carried!

Topazandpearl · 25/08/2012 22:43

Another vote for fitflops. I have walked miles sight-seeing on holidays without any sore feet wearing mine.

BestIsWest · 25/08/2012 23:52

I took Fitflop trainers - fantastic. Had a small cross body bag from M&S for camera, purse, sunglasses ets. Shorts, crops, t shirts and polo shorts. Agree cardi or hoodie for air con.

BestIsWest · 25/08/2012 23:52

Polo shirts

NoComet · 26/08/2012 00:24

Shorts, possibly cropped trousers in Nov.
The comfiest shoes you own and sorry a bum bag works brilliantly if you want to go one the big rides.

NoComet · 26/08/2012 00:27

And don't worry you can't possibly look worse than the overweight Americans do.

It's the one place my big arsed size 16 self can wear shorts and feel thin.

IAmSheWhoMustBeObeyed · 26/08/2012 00:30

Headphones
Eye mask
All over paper bag
I second the gin too.

wontleturuinmylife · 26/08/2012 00:32

Hi, got back 2 weeks ago and only wore shorts and vest tops, flip flops even at night don't need to "dress" for dinner.
Went a few years ago at halloween and wore same type of clothes allthough dd felt chilly in evenings so light cardigan might be useful, having said that we had private pool and she was in it every night so couldn't have been that cold.

Cynner · 26/08/2012 00:33

Sun creme, anti frizz creme, Valium..

mumblecrumble · 26/08/2012 00:36

ooooh is this the special trip for end of treatment?

Binfullofmaggotsonthe45 · 26/08/2012 02:42

I lived in a playsuit and shorts/vest to be honest. It's warm all year round. We didn't dress formally once for eating out tbh. This is Florida, land of the leisure suit! No one there really worries about style!

Light comfortable trainers for parks (climbing in rides, downpours etc) - I took my Puma FAAS as they were light, and dried easily - good enough for Bolt, good enough for me!

We were left some ponchos in the villa and these were fantastic as if it does rain, it buckets down fast. We were there at the end of October. So light pacamacs could be handy.

It is damp, so perhaps a couple of swimsuits incase one doesn't dry overnight?

I use a Radley cross over bag, one of the larger ones. It has a separate back pocket which is handy for maps and tickets, and a mobile pouch on the strap, so you can easily pick up a call, if anyone in the party gets separated.

Careful with the suntan and crossover strap though!

I didn't take any toiletries, we stopped at Walgreens and Publix before hitting our villa and bought the lot there.

gregssausageroll · 26/08/2012 07:59

Um be prepared for it being cooler than you think. I was there late November s few years ago and it was cold. We had to use the heaters on the windscreen in the morning! You might be best taking a cople of fleece type sweaters or have cash that you can buy when there. Epcot in particular was very breezy.

hermioneweasley · 26/08/2012 08:01

You will be walking miles, so whatever shoes you will be comfortable in. I would probably take fitflops and trainers and alternate. I used an across the body messenger style bag.

Also, take some cover ups - the air con is FREEZING.

ImpossiblyGlossy · 26/08/2012 08:43

Everyone says walking miles. I went. Wasn't stunned by walking at all.

ImpossiblyGlossy · 26/08/2012 08:44

In December two years ago we wore woolly hats

HappyGirlNow · 26/08/2012 10:06

under no circumstances wear a bum bag Grin - as others have suggested, a nice cross body bag is perfect...

ImpossiblyGlossy · 26/08/2012 13:43

Just wear normal clothes fgs. Unless going like the idiots in summer

DuckSaysQuack · 26/08/2012 20:47

Thanks all. I'll have a look at what I have that is practical but don't mind being in a photo frame later. I just don't 'do' casual very well I guess.

Never fear, there will be no bum bag!
