How do you wear your bras?

Do you like to wear them super tight so you know they are there and leave bra marks when you take them off, or have them at a looser more comfortable setting? Im asking this because i have realised all of my old bras are pretty super tight on me, but my new ones are so comfortable and no way as tight but i wonder if they will still support my bust the same?

Yeah, I sometimes get some bulge out of the top of the cup if it isn't an 'all over' type style. I was in a 36b for a bit but have chucked those now (stupid M&S fitter) so went for a D as that seemed better. Have just got given some new 36D bras but not taken tags off, might go and try the DDs and the Es to see which is best.

I am trying to do the scoop thing, my boobs are set quite far apart so I always seem to 'come out' on the arm side.

StatisticallyChallenged · 30/09/2012 14:43

Although being wide set makes the escapage worse, a too small cup is a big cause. Also, how tightly did you measure to get 36/how loose is the back on them? It's also possible that the back isn't tight enough which means that once you scoop things don't stay forwards as there is enough give in the fabric for them to creep backwards again.

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 30/09/2012 14:59

If I yank hard I can squeeze the tape measure to 35.5in but not less I don't think. The band feels ok on current bras. I read upthread about the two finger thing, am I supposed to get two fingers in flat to my body or perpendicular to it?

Thanks for your help Smile

StatisticallyChallenged · 30/09/2012 15:04

flat, so just running them underneath the band. There shouldn't be a huge amount of room (unlike my nieces which I could get both fists inside!)

I'd try the 36DD/E, but it might also be worth giving a 34 a try but probably start at an F cup and see how that feels.

RollerCola · 01/10/2012 19:30

Thanks so much for this thread. I'm another one in DD-denial, but after measuring myself at 30/36 I've been out and tried lots today & came out with a new 30E bra Smile

After being very pleased only last year to finally fit into a C cup after years of wearing As and Bs this is quite a shock! However I do feel very 'fitted' and snug and my boobies look great. I'm a bit concerned about the tightness though, and not completely convinced that the interesting 'rib fat' can be scooped away but I'm assuming this is still fairly normal?

Beaverfeaver · 01/10/2012 23:07

I just got my DH to measure me.
I wear size 12 tops. My under bust measurement is 31, my over bust is 38.
I currently wear 36c bras.

I wore a 34d today and it was really uncomfortable and I was aware of it all day.

So I just put my measurements into 3 different online bra size calculators and they all came back saying I was a 36c.

So all I can think to do is to keep on with what I am wearing.

KillerRack · 01/10/2012 23:16

Aren't you supposed to wear them on your middle latch I was praised for that as a teen as apparently a lot of people don't.

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/10/2012 00:35

Beaver the online calculators are all mince! A 34d wont feel right cos at those measurements it's too small in the cup. You should be wearing either a 30 or a 32, I'd be trying a 30 f/ff and a 32 e/f ish as a starting point. The online calculators use the old fashioned add 4 inches thing which doesn't work anymore.

New bras should be bought so they fit on theloosest setting as they stretch so you want to be able to tighten them up.

SorrelForbes · 02/10/2012 09:35

Roller - if the bra is tight enough to only allow two fingers underneath the band but you can still breath, then yes it's probably the correct size. You will get used to the tightness. It comes as a shock at first after wearing something 6" too big Grin.

I've found that persistent scooping has sort of helped train my boobs into the right place, i.e. in the cup not on my back.

HazleNutt · 02/10/2012 09:53

Killer no, bras stretch and you should always start with the loosest hook, so you can tighten later. Otherwise there would not be any point in putting 3 sets of hooks there.

And beaver, listen to Statistically, you are not a 36C.

Dollydowser · 02/10/2012 10:49

Hazelnutt and Statistically are right Beaver. Worth scrolling through bra fitting explained

LtheWife · 02/10/2012 11:20

Still not having much luck with finding the perfect fit. Returned the 30E and F bras and due to work schedule haven't been able to go to a shop so ordered a 28F and FF in the Freya Deco plunge. The F seems to fit fairly well when first putting it on and doing plenty of scooping, but I get a fair bit of over spill in the center when moving around and doing the jump/shimmy test. I don't fall out of the FF but if I start to slouch a little the cups start to gape at the top. I'm not sure if I'm between sizes, if I need the wires to come up higher in the middle than they do on a plunge or if the Deco just needs a bit more fullness at the top of the breast. I know it's a very popular bra so I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as there seems to be very little choice in 28F+ t shirt bras.

Dollydowser · 02/10/2012 11:38

LtheWife, sorry no suggestions for you, but there is a blogger who tries lots of bras who is a 28 back like yourself (slightly bigger in the cup I think).

SorrelForbes · 02/10/2012 11:43

I have a Deco Plunge. It's a good basic t-shirt bra but I have very similar problems with it. I bought a 30G as the 30FF and 32FF were too small in the cup/big in the band. However, there is some gapping at the top of the cup. This is the only plunge bar I own and it totally verifies why all my others are balcony shapes!

Beaverfeaver · 02/10/2012 13:20

Ok I have started off by ordering a 32e from an online company.
All my previous 36c's have been bought from M&S

Is it that they are made to be old measurements maybe?

HazleNutt · 02/10/2012 13:26

No, M&S bras are made to the current measuring system. They just fit you there based on the old one.

Dollydowser · 02/10/2012 14:53

Beaver, here's a review of another T shirt bra from someone who has issues with the Deco.

SorrelForbes · 02/10/2012 15:02

Nice link Dolly. I think I might have to treat myself to one of those in blush.

SorrelForbes · 02/10/2012 15:08

Hmm, can't find it actually on sale anywhere yet.

Beaverfeaver · 02/10/2012 17:49

That bra looks so damn tight - how can that look good under clothes with the skin underneath at the from bulging like that?

SorrelForbes · 02/10/2012 18:44

Hmm, I don't think it looks particularly tight. She says in the comments that it is actually too big on her. Maybe just a bad photo/angle?

mummybare · 03/10/2012 18:28

Hello ladies, this thread is fab! I am slightly confused, however...

I was fitted in House of Fraser just after I had DD as a 34H. (The service was GREAT, by the way, thoroughly recommended.) She did it by eye and it was a complete revelation.

Five months in, either my bras have all stretched or I've lost a bit of weight as they aren't fitting as well any more. I'm still breastfeeding, so I'm thinking there will be more changes, so I'd love to know how to fit myself.

Do the double letters signify an inch difference or just the single ones? My measurements are now 32 under bust and 41 bust, so is that an FF or a J?? Confused

Dollydowser · 03/10/2012 18:39

Its supposed to be approximately one inch=one cup size, so it would be a 32G or GG. But that is just a starting point, all bras fit differently.

mummybare · 03/10/2012 19:12

So (sorry!)...

1in = A
2in = B
3in = C
4in = D
5in = DD or 5in = E?

I don't understand where the G comes from (sorry if I'm being dense!) Thanks so much for your help. You lot are so much more clued up about this stuff than the rest of the Internet, who are all determined to make me slouch around in a 36E! :)
